Default I filled out a W-4 at my club, what does that mean?

    Hey,
I work at a club in NYC, and have been working there for several months now. In early December the club manager asked me if I had my papers, (because there are many women in the club that are illegal) and then asked me if I wanted to fill out a W-4.
I filled out the W-4 and he said I was only reporting the times I go to the VIP room.
I am just unsure of what difference there is of filing a w-4 or not. Am i considered an employee(should i be getting paid hourly) or still an independent contractor?
Also what does this mean for me for taxes.

    Thank you

well from an IRS standpoint ... "The form is used by employers to determine the correct amount of tax withholding to deduct from employees' wages. "

Based on relatively sound speculation, filing a W4 plus your club manager's comments means the following ...

    - the IRS, the NY state income tax agency, and the NY city income tax agency know that you are earning taxable income in NYC in 2010

    - the club intends to 'charge off' customer money paid out to dancers for VIP / private dances as reported dancer income ( but there is no specific reference as to whether this will be done via 1099 or via W2) at the end of 2010

    - you'll have to wait and see how the club actually pays out your VIP / private dance money during the first week(s) of 2010. If there isn't a $2.95 an hour 'tipped minimum wage' payment included, then it's safe to assume that the club still intends to treat its dancers as independent contractors
