Default Gentle shampoo for regular washing?

So I have very dry hair that I absolutely must keep long. For years I've relied on the best solution I've ever discovered for keeping it at healthy as possible- putting it up in a bun and letting it get oily in between washes and styling.

A few weeks ago, I ended up having to wash it regularly, meaning probably 3-4 times in one week. Well, during that time my hair got really dry and it was hard to style it without it looking fried, but a skin issue I've been battling for years finally cleared up.

I never thought it was because of not washing my hair, because it wasn't breakouts and pimples like you usually get when you're skin is clogged. It would get red and irritated, like it does when you've been in the wind and cold. But now I'm thinking the oils from my hair was what was irritating it.

I want to keep having nice skin, but I also want to keep my hair healthy. So I've decided I need to find a shampoo that's gentle enough for frequent washing without drying out my hair. I already use a deep conditioning mask everytime as a regular conditioner, as well as doing an oil treatment frequently, but nothing really works like the natural oils.

Any gentle shampoo suggestions that could help with my problem?

'Alberto Balsam' fruit scent range is fairly mild. Pomegranite and Grapeseed, Olive and Ginseng, Sunkissed Raspberry or Strawberry Cream are all nice. As is Palmolive Naturals, Milk and Honey is the one for dry hair and the scents are lovely.

I wash my hair every night after I work & leave the mask conditioner in overnight.

it could be the oils but it could be the stuff u put in it. like gel or hairspray. try washing with conditioner. rub ur scalp real good with it rinse like crazy and wash ur face afterwards. if that duznt work dont wash the length of ur hair with shampoo. just the scalp.

I have dry hair too. Its also fairly thin and damaged from coloring. My ATF shampoo is Paul Mitchell tea tree oil line. The invigorating one has peppermint oil..and my favorite is the thickening one in Lemon Sage scent. Smells SO good and makes my hair nice and silky.

I also spray it with Got2be detangler and finger through Bio Silk oil (just a little) after I wash it. It combs out nicely with no tangles and feels AWESOME.

Absolutely hands down go for Rusk Calm Shampoo and Conditioner. Its AMAZING for destressed/severly dry hair. It literally babys every single strand... Absolute life saver. It also has a leave in conditioner that will NOT weigh your hair down and gives you great managability. Love Love Love this stuff.

I've heard a lot about a product called Wen. It's actually a range of all organic, natural hair style/cleaning aides that will (supposedly) change your hair forever. I haven't tried it myself (too pricey for me right now), but if you have very dry hair I'd recommend Googleing it. I'd totally try it if I could afford it.

do you know if that stuff is tested on animals?

I bleach my hair from natural black to pale blonde, & my favorite shampoo& conditioner is joico moisture recovery, with a close second to bumble& bumbles gentle shampoo with super rich conditioner.

Have you tried condition washing? Between shampoos you can wash you hair with a conditioner because most have cleaning agents in them as well. For shampoos, look for ones without sodium laureth sulfate because this ingredient is very drying.

Hey, I am kind of in a hurry, and alittle drunk, so I hope I am answering your question, and didn't read what other girls responded, so sorry if I am repeating someone's suggestion.
My hairstylist told me to just apply shampoo to the roots, and really work it in, I always applied it to all my hair, after working it into the scalp rinse well try not to get the shampoo onto ends, and then with the hair long enough to make a ponytail, apply conditioner, keep the conditioner away from the roots-I have fine hair so I don't need any help with having it weighed down. Since I have been doing this I am not only saving shampoo, but my hair is clean at the roots, and much less dry at the ends. Also- I love Joico shampoo and condit for color treated hair.

OMG, really? That's awful (but kinda funny).

I would think that because the company who makes it is so "nature friendly" that they wouldn't test on animals.....(it's made by the same people who make the Bare Minerals Makeup). I just did a quick search on google and it seems that they don't....I would be so disappointed if it turned out that they did. If they're going to claim to be so revolutionary and charge exorbitant amounts of $$ for their products, I'm going to hold them to a higher standard than a company who tests their products on animals.

It's like 30 bucks for a months supply...but you also get some sort of all natural/gentle hair styling balm, and comb for the shower and a carrying case. Not too bad at all.

I love the Aussie range of hair products personally, I find them mild enough for me to use 4-5 times a week.

I've read articles about how much Chaz Dean (the guy who created Wen) loves his dogs. So I'm guessing that they mean they don't run tests on animals in laboratories and put product in their eyes and all that evilness. He probably just uses it at home when he is giving his dog a bath. At least I hope that is what it means..... I just thought it was an awfully funny way to word it!
