sounds sketchy. the guy doesn't look terribly healthy, just kinda average in build. interesting he has no images that show his body composition.
anyway all that juice will do horrifying things to your liver (functionally equivalent to going on a 'fifth of vodka feast', as far as creating fatty liver deposits goes, just without the extra damage of alcohol as alcohol).
sugars=hurt the liver, not 'detox' it. which, since the liver is nature's detoxer for us humans means a juice fast will hurt your body rather than help it.
his poor, poor liver. :-(
^ Most of what he was drinking was vegetable juice, which is generally low in sugar. And he's actually a really smart guy...did tons of research and whatnot.
I've never gone raw, I don't think I could do it personally. But I know a couple people who have and I've read about it a lot. It's supposed to have fantastic effects on your health and mental clarity as well as give you tons of energy. You have to literally eat all day though to get enough nutrition from fruits and vegetables. And make sure to eat plenty of nuts and avocados to keep your fat intake at a healthy level.

I've gone raw (About 75% raw), 2 out of my 3 meals each day are quote on quote "Raw". Personally I think any encorporation of raw food into your diet (Be it 30% or 50% or even 80%) is totally wonderfully and a step towards being totally healthy inside and out.
Just a note about rawism, you'll need B12 supplements if you start to get more raw (About 60-70%+)![]()
Yeah, I'm trying to slowly transition to raw. I'm excited! It makes so much sense to me.

I did a veggi juice feast for a detox about a month ago.. only lasted 2 days but I kick myself for not sticking to it. Felt great and lost 5lbs. Everything tasted like dirt but I plan on doing my own cucumber juice detox soon. I'd say there is a good balance between juice/ raw because substance was a real issue for me.
Licky like a tangerine
.... Yea I said it!!!
^ Yes, I did a 3 day juice feast, and it was incredibly difficult. Doesn't help that it's 2 degrees outside; I don't have much incentive to consume 4 quarts of various juices a day.
My SO did it with me, and he and I are both benefitting from just those three days. Mental clarity, focus, increased motivation, less need for sleep. Crazy. And I'm not one of those types who makes shit up in my head, either. I was prepared for it to fail completely.
Like you, Angel, I'll be trying this again in the future!
I think the only way I could go raw would be by eating Ceviche but I dunno how healthy that would be b/c I love eating it with saltines. Anyone know what Ceviche is... How healthy is that for you?
The more I think about it, the more insane it is that I've been living my life with so little actual food in it. I mean, our society places so much emphasis on vitamins--to the point where we think we can take a little pill, get all of these vitamins, and then fill our bodies with crap for the rest of the day.
It has actually started pissing me off how little food is available in stores. Everything is packed with things we can't even pronounce.
Even 'healthy' drinks like commercial fruit/vegetable juices have all been pasteurized...which kills natural enzymes. Even the time it takes to ship these juices can destroy the vast majority of helpful nutrients.

I can get behind raw, but 92 days of juicing makes me raise my eyebrows. Where's the protein in this? Also sounds wickedly expensive.
I understand what you mean though Charlie- I eat anything from scratch I can, I don't even eat jarred pasta sauce, and have recently started making my own pasta (incredibly eay by the way, did it with my SO's best friend last night). I make own curries from scratch, I eat nothing microwaved. But then again, that's just how I was raised.
^ Hell yeah girl! I'm totally on board with the 'make everything from scratch' thing. I got a food processor for xmas, and I've been making homemade mayonnaise (so easy and so good!), almond/cashew butter (again, sooo easy and so good!), etc! I'm trying to gradually transition to a raw-er diet w/ baby steps.
I guess there's a huge myth in American society that you 1) need lots of protein to survive and 2) the only source of protein is meat. There are tons of other sources of protein in vegetables and fruits.
He talks about it a li'l right here: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/200...-protein-myth/
Oh, and about expense.
It can be expensive, but I was only spending an average of $10 a day for mine. If you're cutting costs, you can stick to inexpensive bulk items (carrots, celery, cucumbers, kale) and skip the more interesting stuff.
Personally, there's no way I could've even made it for three days without buying things like honeydew, pomegranate, etc to help make it all a bit more interesting.
If nothing else, y'all should try home-juicing. I was amazed at how everything from carrots to apples to pomegranates create juice that is nothing like store-bought! Soooo delicious. And think about it...yes, it'd be healthier to eat 10 carrots a day, but none of us have time to do this. May as well juice 'em (and a few other healthy ingredients) and actually get those nutrients. Many people use the leftover pulp as soup thickeners, etc...but I haven't tried this.
I bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Breville-800JE...3330974&sr=8-1
It's a beast!! I'm in love. No more store-bought juice for me...
Here is where this guy starts the actual day-by-day blog. Pretty fascinating stuff.

One thing I like about Steve Pavlina is that he's usually the first one to try something out and say it doesn't work. It's not like he's trying to sell anything. He's done 30 day trials in the past that haven't gone well, and he reports objectively when this happens. But the juice feast makes for some pretty interesting reading.

I've been vegetarian for 14 years- you're preaching to the choir.I was vegan for a few years, but I ate tofu and veggie burgers and the like. I still drink three or four Odwalla Super Proteins a week. But I didn't see anything about nuts or anything.
PS. I'm not American nor was I raised by Americans.![]()
^ Ah, very nice, very nice.
I swear, I'll never pay $4 for a li'l container of juice again...no matter how "naked" it claims to be. After realizing how silly it is to pay for something that has been pasteurized...pft.
If you spend a lot of money on juice, you might want to consider getting a juicer just to supplement your diet. Sorry if I sound like an infomercial. I just got mine, and I'm still super excited about it!![]()
Just watched the documentary "The Beautiful Truth." Scaaaary. Y'all should watch it if you can. It's about lies within the medical/food industries.
Makes me want to go Raw NOW. O_O

I think this post has motivated me to go 100% raw for a week or so.
^ Hell yeah girl. I'm taking the challenge on too. I'm increasingly freaked out on an epic level the more I learn about the food industry (processed foods and meats). So unnatural.
What the hell have I been eating for my entire life??
I just bought the books The Live Food Factor, The Food Revolution, Raw Food Made Easy, The Juicing Bible, and Raw Food Life Force Energy. They seem to be great resources and great 'I'm just starting out' books.

I also swear I live by Ani Phyo's Raw Kitchen and Raw Kitchen Desserts (In which I lived on nothing but desserts for 2 weeks straight and still totally healthy. It was fun but then I had TOO much energy.)
Good luck! I just stocked up on vitamin supplements so I'm starting tomorrow.
Like any diet, I expect it'll be difficult in the beginning. But I'm hoping to make a lifestyle change that'll allow me to eventually whip up satisfying, gourmet raw meals easily.
you're making a permanent switch to 100% raw?
