Default regular spray tanning and dry patches

I get regular spray tans because I don't tan naturally or even in solariums. Every couple of weeks I get bad dry patches and then the tan goes way too dark on these spots. It's really frustrating because I always exfoliate really well before the tan and I also moisturise every day, twice a day.

Anyone else experience this? Is there anything I can use to stop this happen? Im not sure if the dry patches are from the spray tan or from exfoliating all the time or both.

I get this too, but only when I use the 2 hour development ones. Ask the person who does them if there is any alcohol in them. That maybe drying you out.

Are your dry patches where you grip the pole with your body the most? Mine are. I thought moisterising may help (I never do as I pole everyday), but if moisterising aint fixing it for you then obviously I was wrong.

I get a fake bake spray tan and it really dries my skin out!

No the spray tan is a really good one it has no alcohol and it has aloe vera in it. I think the dryness might be caused by body spray and perfume?? I don't use the pole much atm coz my current club has tiny short poles so I don't really do pole tricks.

I use fake bake and have found that the oil-free moisturiser they make is good, i get dry patches, one on the side of my boob which doesnt look good! It doesnt make the tan rub off and it smells nice too, i use the night after ive tanned and on my dry patches and its helping!

DHA dehydrates your skin. If I go too dark the same thing happens. The only real way to fix it is to use a heavier moisturizer or go with a lighter spray tan which contains less DHA. When I was dancing and tanned constantly I used Vaseline's Cocoa Butter cream. It's somewhat greasy when you first put it on, but was the only thing heavy enough to combate the dryness and it gives your skin a nice subtle glow.

I do spray tanning (I've been certified) and yes a lot of spray tan has alcohol in (especially if they have a scent to them) Moisturize three times a day using a lotion that has no mineral oil or scent to it (I like Eucrine, or Nivea) Also stay away from taking very hot showers (which will also dry your skin, and eat your tan) and not spraying perfume or body spray directly on your skin as it contains alcohols in them.

wow i find it impossible for me to maintain a spray tan. i tried it for a few months like a year ago and it was a mess and really expensive. it was hard to find the right time to get sprayed, where i wouldn't sweat for 8hrs afterwords. i guess i wasn't exfoliating well enough and it would get splotchy. but esp my feet were always messed up and there seemed to be no way to fix it. now i just bite the bullet and go in a tanning bed 2x a week but cover my face so it doesn't get too sun damaged. then i use a nightly self-tanner on my face.
i am worried about the long-term effects on my neck and chest though i am super pale naturally though, and sickly pale not beautiful pale, so i have to do something while dancing.

I totally feel you Laurcon! That is me as well. I'm South American so I have olive skin naturally, but when I am pale my skin gets all yellowy and I don't feel like I look as good. I hate spray tanning, it makes me feel like my skin is constantly dirty! And I always get patches no matter how much I moisturize and exfoliate.. I go 2x a week in the bed and cover my face as well. But I'm also worried about my chest looking gross later on! What I've started doing is trying to also cover my neck and chest and using my St. Tropez mousse on that area as well. It's a lot easier to maintain than a full body spray tan.

Tanning in general is just so annoying!!

^^^^ ha ha me too! I look yellow when I'm not tan, it's ugly! I really don't look right at all if I'm not tan. DHA dries the HELL out of my skin, all I can do about it is lube myself up twice a day though

Just be careful babe. Its not just the aging but skin cancer you need to worry about. (sorry to sound like mom). I stopped going to tanning beds or in the sun years ago. I am sooooo white. There are lots of 2-3 development tans now.

There are 2 amazing spray tan places in Sydney though. One place has a membership where you just pay $50 every 2 weeks through direct debit and you can get as many tans as you want.

Some weeks I don't bother though. With the lighting the guys hardly notice. Some of my regulars like it when I am white. One said I look "virginal" hahaha.

    That is an awesome deal!!!

I feel so insecure when I am pale. It really bothers me in summer too. If I don't have a fresh tan I don't do anything so I miss out on going out and having fun with friends. I pretty much wont go to the beach coz of it.
    I'm so over fake-tanning.
Sun beds are not an option for me as I dont tan anyway and don't want to risk my skin.

Depends if your putting some kind of oil/bubble bath in your baths, anything with really hot water (shower, bath, spa etc) will just kill the life expectancy of your spray tan. ALSO it is SOOOO important to not sweat or have contact with water for 6-8 hours after your spray tan, a lot of ppl forget this and wonder why they are so light because the DHA has to have to time to react to your skin.

Swimming in a hot tub or pool will kill it too because of all the chlorine, very drying.

Everyone's skin sheds naturally, some people's shed more then others (depending on dry skin etc) a good spray tan is going to last you about 5-7 days before you start to see some blotchy spots or patches wearing off. This can be helped w some spray tan in a can for touch ups.

Honestly though most of the time when I see clients say this its because they are using products high in alcohol or mineral oil (and not because they don't listen but because most products contain it) Also using terry cloth towels after you get out of the shower is like a form of exfoliation so make sure to "pat" your skin dry not rub. Shaving is going to exfoliate your legs too so I always tell ppl to purchase a spray tan in a can to touch up legs and spots or a lotion that has a small amount of DHA in it that will extend the tan. Using acne medications, and most make up removers will also eat the tan on your face.

Any Nivea lotion will do, I normally use the kind for really dry skin.
