    Default Manic Panic

I have had many diffrent red hair colours over the last year ranging from ginger to deep cherry red. At the moment it is a medium ginger. I have just bought myself som manic panic vampire red. Im a little concerened it looks rrrreeeaaaalllllyyyy red lol.

Anyone used this product before? Any tips on how to put it in ect and is it going to be ridiculasley (sp?) red.

    Thanks girls

there should be directions on the container it came in. I've used that brand a thousand times though, & I believe they say this: apply to damp hair. Leave on 20 minutes. Rinse. It will probably come out more dark than bright on your color of hair. Try doing a test strand to see how it winds up looking.

however, if you're me, you leave it on for like a day or two. I like it really deep & bright, & I like it to have real staying power.

manic panic doesn't last on your hair that long; it fades pretty fast. If you decide you like the results you get, I'd recommend buying special effects or punky color(the best; it has conditioners in it, but I think it's been discontinued. I haven't seen it forever). Both stay a lot longer.

feel free to ask me any questions. I've been using that stuff since I was 14.

oh yeah, if you're concerned about your hair turning too red, you can cut the dye with conditioner, 50/50 or whatever strength you want. Just do a strand test to make sure you know what your result will be.

manic panic fades quickly. if you dont want it super red, then i would follow the directions and apply it to towel dried hair and only leave it on for 20 min... when i died my hair funky colors i was the opposite and always wanted it to be as obnoxiously bright as possible so i would apply it to blowdried hair and leave it on for a really long time.

if you like the unnatural look, i would use special effects. that stuff is awesome. but make sure you put vaseline around your hairline or you will end up with funky colored skin. actually i recommend doing this wiht manic panic, or use cold cream at the very least.

if its too bright, manic panic fades quickly enough that some clarifying shampoo will dull it out really quickly.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

special effects...seriously. and you can keep it bright by mixing a little in with your shampoo. it will turn your bathtub pink though.

i used to rock out the nuclear red a few yrs back:
    Attachment 22895

and i could keep it this bright for a while too. use one of the darker shades (they have blood red or something) if you want it less crazy. Plus since your hair isnt bright blonde it wont be quite as intense. and put it on blow dried hair and leave on for a few hours like i mentioned before.

heres a little info for you..... You got me to pull out all my haircolor(which motivates me to get going on doing my own hair, t.y.), so I did a little research on the reds that I have for you. I tested them with a q-tip on a white napkin. Here were the results:

blood red: not really red, it's really a red-violet. It's very purple.

nuclear red: a pretty true red, it's got some pink tones in it, but no violet or orange, still a warmer red.

vampire red: a deep cherry. A cooler hued red. More blue tones.

and just because they are in the red family:

hi octane orange: the brightest red-orange you ever saw. If there was a color brighter than traffic orange, this would be it.

napalm orange: a really pretty mandarin orange.

** all colors listed are special effects brand. Let us know what you end up doing.

if you really want the manic panic to stay, put it on hair that is almost dry, & leave it on for two hours; it won't hurt your hair as it's just a vegetable based dye.

    good luck!

Yeah Manic Panic does fade very quickly and I noticed it also has the tendency to stain towels sometimes or bleed out. Do a test strand just to be safe.

Fudge makes THE BEST semi permanent crazy colors. The only problems I had with their red was when I wanted to get it out (vegetable colors in general are a pain to get out, particularly if you bleached first) and I had a light pillow case that got stained.
I've tried all the brands mentioned as well as raw and matrix and fudge blows them all away. It costs more but is totally worth it!

Oh, I forgot to mention this! With veg color you can get it to stay in longer wit a few tricks. Apply to towel dried hair, put it in a shower cap, and apply heat (you prob don't have a hair drying station at home so a blowdryer will work... just keep it moving) for the entire processing time. You can also add a small amount of your color to your shampoo to create a tinted shampoo. Never wash your hair in too hot of water and if you do make tinted shampoo keep a box of latex gloves handy so when you shampoo you don't end up with red stained hands.

fudge colors don't work for me at all. In fact the have even less staying power than manic panic.
I've tried fudge's red, blue, & purple, & got okay results after the first rinse out, but in 2 weeks it looked like shit.
