Default How much do you defy the stripper stereotype?

So there is a poll around here that questioned how much you all fit into the
stripper stereotype physically, and I'm curious, in what ways do you challenge the typical stripper mold?

I think the biggest one for me is that I'm a virgin, and until recently, I was dead set on saving myself for marriage.

    Share! Please!

    Edit- Here are some more:
-I'm a full time college student with a 4.0 GPA
    -No tattoos/plastic surgery
-I go to Church every Sunday (and No, I don't think stripping compromises my spiritual beliefs)
-I volunteer every week with children with autism.

    - Already have the college degree (multiple, & was part of honor society)
    - Owned my own business
    - Worked in the corporate world for many years
    - Don't do any drugs
    - Practically OCD about diseases (no extras)
    - Don't smoke
    - Rarely ever drink - and even then usually just a few sips
    - No tattoos
    - I don't hate dancing (actually I love it)
    - No children
    - No implants
    - Bought my first car at 18 & first house at like 21 or 22.
    - Nothing pierced except my ears
    - I'm practically translucent naturally (I can actually see my veins). I only spray tan for photoshoots and big events to look like I'm not dead.

It's hard to say what else since everyone seems to have there own idea of what strippers tend to be.

I'm reading everyone else's and my list keeps growing.

    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

I didn't mean to offend with the bisexual comment. To each their own. It's just been my personal experience that many dancers are bi (and there is nothing wrong with it at all, just not my thing).

Oh wow... I mean - I know the girls here on SW are intelligent as they are beautiful, but I'm surprised at how many ways you all break the stripper 'mold'. I think it's great that so many of you have yourselves together and don't fall into the typical 'drug-ridden, soiled past, lost soul' persona . I hate how being a dancer is so stigmatized.

That being said, I won't exactly help people see past that stereotype. I'm pretty dead set on becoming a dancer, and unfortunately, I come from one of those "broken homes, abusive childhood" backgrounds that people expect of dancers. I am in the process of turning my life into something better than I was raised with though...so things in general are looking up for me. Yay!

    Great topic!

i come from one of those stereotypical broken home backgrounds too, and when i was starting out yeah, i was a bit of a stereotype (not that there's anything wrong with that). These days i don't party, don't smoke, drink in moderation, have no deadbeat men in my life, no piercings (not even my ears), no implants or plastic surgery. Hell, i don't even colour my hair.

^ It's ok, ladies, past stuff really isn't that big of a deal. Tons of people have waaay dysfunctional families and they never became strippers or hookers or porn stars. Besides you guys are turning things around for the better, not using it as a crutch

Exactly. No one has the "perfect" life and we can all change. In fact I know someone who came from a terrible situation and became a stripper. She used it to become a lawyer.

Yeah. The fact is even if someone fits into all the stereotypes it doesn't make them a bad person, just a little more 'typical' in people's eyes, especially if they don't know any better. But I like to see all these varieties of women!

I love, Love, LOVE this thread!!!!!
This is one of my biggest things with dancing, it makes me the happiest! I hate the "stripper" girls, the ones who perpetuate the stereotype.. I LOOOVE the ones who break the mold.
I love being around strippers who are nothing like the stereotype and are beautiful, intelligent, classy women! I am lucky to be around a lot of them at my club, and they are so inspirational.
~I am a student and love getting edumacated
~No drugs/cigarettes and no alcohol (or very very rare)
~Saving all money and don't waste on pointless crap
~Investing money wisely and preparing for my future
~Payed off my car and all credit cards, also pay for all my school in full
~Purchasing my first house at 23
~Plan on opening a business in the near future
    ~LOVE love dancing/entertaining
~Never do extras EVER! b/c thats NOT my job! Call an escort!
~100% natural from hair down to my toes!
    ~No kids..
    ~No dumbass boyfriend.. just me!
~Not some crazy sex addict.. I just want love and committment!
~I don't party and only want real relationships in my life, with good people

The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I'm sure 99% of women fit into some stripper stereotype.
I was talking to one of my regulars about how most guys expect girls to fit into this pretty fucked up mold, but the reality is that a lot of girls have their shit together.

And there are some ways that I do fit the stereotype (although none while I've actually been dancing.
I had a very physically abusive childhood (with lots of visits and threats from child services) and I had drug and alcohol problems in high school, but I think I, as well as a lot of other girls on this forum, defy the mold even further by rising above difficult pasts. They aren't what lead me to dance, and they don't dictate my behavior or motivations while I'm dancing.

I don't drink, do drugs or smoke.
I play video games and spend most of my free time relaxing at home and gaming.
    I have a savings account.
    I don't party.
I've been with my boyfriend since I was 16. We're celebrating our 9th year anniversary this June.
    I don't like dance/hip hop music.
I come from a middle class background.
Before I started dancing I had never even been to a club.
I have a college education (trade school in America) and have full time temporary employment that pays ridiculously well.
    No tattoos/piercings/surgery.

I know more teachers, full-time mothers and office workers who fit into the 'stereotype' than strippers. People try to use the stereotype as convenient shorthand to put us down, but it doesn't hold - as this website and forum shows, we are a diverse, smart and incredible bunch of people!

    I have an MA
    I don't do drugs
    I don't smoke
I have a 'normal' full-time decently paid job
    I am not an exhibitionist
I am not a lesbian or bisexual
I have strong moral and spiritual beliefs
    I am monogamous
I don't lie, cheat or steal
I don't feel bad about stripping

    *I went to two colleges
*I don't party, I'd rather hang out at the museum
    *I don't smoke
    *I don't do drugs
    *I'm not crazy, pretty stable
*I don't tan, at all...I refuse to give in lol
*I am very committed to what I do in life
*I can't lie about my life, have I before? yes when I was much younger living with my parents to get out of trouble. After being on my own to support myself...I realized it really wasn't necessary, not even to customers
*While I have tattoos(cuz I'm addicted to them) I do not have any plastic surgery of any kind
    *I am not an alcoholic
*I don't mess around behind my husbands back
    *I never got into fights
*And to be honest, I think stripping was one of the best things for me to get into. It really opened me up to more things that I was craving. More information, more people. Learning about so many other things.
*Also, I am completely obsessed with dance...all of it.
