Anyone done this? My gym is offering classes, I am going to do one. If I want to do the 8 week course it's $180.
It looks quite sexy.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.
Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

I belly danced for years before I started stripping. Its very fun and challenging, you should try the class and see if your really into it, then start looking into different styles, I was trained in Tribal Fusion, classic Turkish, classic Egyptian, and group Tribal. It will definitely help you learn how to isolate muscle movement for stage performances.

I started taking belly dancing classes a few months ago and really enjoyed them..I felt stronger and wayyy sexier..
When the holidays rolled around I stopped going b/c of travel and what not, I need to go back again, esp since I prepaid for more classes!
I think it's really great for our confidence and to get more moves.. I know I use some of the movements when at work, and I love it!!

I belly danced for years in highschool and uni.
Im going back to belly dancing once i stop work. I think I still need to dance to feel normal.
Theres no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying till you run out of cake

I love belly dancing! Same thing the other girls said, it helps you move those sexy parts of you. I joined a troupe briefly but we didn't get many gigs and I didn't like her choreography. I still want to take some classes though, it's pretty much what came BEFORE stripping. The dance of the seven veils? I think the last veil revealed it all, I don't know the history because men from those societies keep it all very private.
This is my favorite exercise. When I quit stripping after all those years, my body and my muscles really really wanted to dance. Belly dancing is a good place to channel that, and a good workout. It's great for isolation and muscle tone / control. The ones that I do are pretty light cardio, but I prefer that... I am sure you could find some more intense options if you wanted to seriously shed calories. I was just looking to firm up a bit and learn some sexy dance moves, and belly dancing has definitely done that for me.
To the ladies with a bit more experience... I have been trying to stripperfy belly dancing for when I go out. Any recommendations? Essentially I want to take the classic movements and make them a bit more modern, so that I can get on the dance floor with some exotic moves, but not look like I am belly dancing at a night club.

you need to come up to west va then. We have an amazing lady named Dakota who incorporates bellydance moves so seamlessly with pole tricks and floor work, its so fun to watch. and she does it all in 8 inch heels, her grace and posture has really been an inspiration for me.
oh, and she usually dance to starstuck by gaga and touch it bring it by busta rhymes, so shes really brought it to a more modern place.

My friend taught me in high school a bit I had the most amazing tummy for being what everyone considered the "fat girl" but I loved it and felt sexy doing it lol

Just a quick little thing... Belly dancing is not and never was a precursor for stripping.
The dance of the seven veils was invented by Oscar Wilde in the 1800's to sell books. It was never a real thing only a fictional story meant to titillate readers so they would buy more of his books.
Bellydancing was originally done BY women FOR women in the privacy of their own homes and most men never even got to see it. It was originally a child birthing ritual and then became a dance performed in homes during weddings, birth celebrations and engagement parties (family celebrations)
It was only brought to the stage after 1904 at the Worlds Fair in America. After that women started performing it in nightclubs and restaurants for money. However, those nightclubs were totally different from the cabarets where erotic dancing took place and never crossed paths.
Sorry for the history lesson :/ But I just wanted to clear that up. Im a professional Belly Dancer and cant help spewing stuff when the subject it breeched.
OP: Good luck on your classes! Have fun! Report back when you start them!

Belly dancing is so sexy! They were the original strippers waaay back in ancient Mesopotamia. I went to a convention in Dublin a few months back, there were some belly dancers there and nobody could take their eyes off them. The girls themselves weren't superhot or anything, but the way they moved was unbelievable.
It is so much fun, especially if you already have a dance background bc you use things that you already know how to do! I took some free classes on a cruise, and it was wonderful!

I know.
Its the ONLY type of Belly Dance I would be interested in learning. But no one near me teaches it, I have a belly dance teacher friend but she can only teach me classical and egyptian. Which looks nothing like Rachel Brice.
Its all skippy and dainty and happy and so not me, Id rather move like Medusa would have if she existed, like Rachel Brice does.

I'm fortunate to have a badass belly dance troupe here in my town that does everything from dark, slow, sensual choreography, to happy go lucky modern to classic egyptian and cabaret.
Rachel Brice, Zoe Jakes, Kami Liddle, Moria . . .
I think I'm preferring bellydance to stripping right now. Just feeling modest this year.

I already do a lot of Yoga- LOVE IT!
My arms and shoulders are very Brice like, so her Drills DVD is the next step. There is nothing like an actual class though is there? Quinnie, you are very lucky![]()
