    Default Pounds or Inches?

When you girls try to lose weight or trim up, do you focus on losing pounds or losing inches?

I just looked at an old measurement chart I did of myself back in November and compared it to just this morning, and this is what I found:

    NOVEMBER 8:
    Ankle 9.125 Calf 15 Thigh 21 Hip 40.5 Waist 32.5 Wrist 6.375 Forearm 9.75 Bicep 12.25

    Weight: 154.4

    Versus TODAY (January 17, 2010)
    Ankle 8.75 Calf 14.25 Thigh 19.5 Hip 37.75 Waist 31.5 Wrist 6.25 Forearm 9.5 Bicep 11.75

    Weight: 152

All total I've lost about 7.5-8 inches off of my body since November, but I've only lost 2 pounds.

Please note, I'm not on any official diet or exercise regime - I eat healthy and I work it while dancing, so I consider that my workout (10 minutes every hour for 8 hours - that's 80 minutes of exercise 4 times a week, and that's not counting lapdances!!)

Visibly I do look a lot more trim since then, too. I've lost 8 lbs since August when I came off of a hormonal IUD birth control. I know that most of these inches lost but not as many pounds is due to muscle gain rather than weight loss, and probably a little water weight, as well.

So I'm wondering - for you girls, is it more beneficial to count pounds or inches when exercising and trying to trim up?

Both for me really, but inches are what matter. Pounds are a vanity thing for me, while inches are actually more relevant.

Muscle weighs more than fat, but takes up less space, so it seems you've gained quite a lot of muscle and loss quite a lot of fat.

Body fat % is a good thing to go by as well.

I would have to say inches. Will showed me this thing: http://www.accumeasurefitness.com/

It's cheap and a good way to keep track of how much actual fat you are burning.

Oh and dancing being a workout is speculative depending on what kind of dancer you are. I don't do shit on stage, and make most of my money by talking, trying to do as little as possible for maximum profit. What can I say, I'd rather coax $200 out of them by making them tip for time than do ten dances. Add drinking into the mix ( I personally have to do it to resist the urge to slug them all in the face) and then going home starved at 3am and eating, well- it sort of cancels out.

Ok after writing that I feel like I should call my mother and thank her for the anti fat genes.

I go off of neither. I go off of how I look. If I can't see a difference, then the difference doesn't matter. Maybe that's unhelpful, but it makes sense to me.

If I know I'm eating healthily and living healthily, then things like inches/pounds don't matter. I mean, if I went by weight...wow. I'm 5'7" and weigh about 150 lbs! You'd never guess by looking at me though.

SRSLY?? I'm 5'8" and some and like 128ish. From your avatar I would never think 150! Nor would I have guessed you were tall, I thought you'd be about 5'4" and 115.

I go by pounds, but only because I don't have time to check all my measurements as often as I'd like, and feel I have them right. I'm always worried about pulling the tape slightly tighter/less tight each time, whereas I trust my scales. Jump on after a shower just to make sure there's nothing weird or wonderful going on that I might not have noticed - but it'd be weird if I didn't notice. More long term, I go by how my jeans fit.

I always go as tight as I possibly can in measuring now just because I was always worried I did it tighter/looser last time, hah. It might not be my natural measurements (I don't know how tight they do actual measurements) but at least I can track progress.

    Awww, you're sweet!

Yes, I oscillate between 150-155. Most people I ask (and I tell them to overguess) put me at around 120 lbs.

Mostly, it's because I've been weight lifting since I was four(gymnastics/ballet), and was almost up to the olympic level in soccer when I broke my ankle and had to quit. So most of my weight is muscle. I have really great muscle definition in my arms/legs. I look thin, but what I do have is very compact.

You, however, look pretty thin (in your pictures). So I'd probably look 'big' next to you just because I have wider hips and just completely different definition.

i just look in the mirror. pounds are not an accurate measurement of volume as muscle and fat densities are different. inches i feel like are only relevent when the difference is one inch, and gaining or losing an inch aroundn the waist takes a lot longer than gaining or losing pounds.

so yea ive just always eyeballed myself. i like to be able to see muscle definition too.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

Not to threadjack too much, but here's a really bad photo of my lower half. My ass looks funny since I was twisting to take the photo, but w/e. (Med- thought this might give you an idea of how I weigh so much)

i dig the whole super in shape look personally. well too a limit of course, i dont like butch girls. but some good ol feminine muscle definition is very sexy.

Damn Charlie! I agree with Med... I pictured you at about 5'5" and 110 or something. I'm 5'7" and 109 - 112 right now and I think your av looks way littler than me. Nice proportions But I missed the photo too.

Anyway ya to the OP. I usually weigh myself, but only cause Im lazy. My scale has body fat percentage on it; although I doubt it is very accurate. I also judge by how much or little cellulite I have cause I can have a lot at times.

I don't care so much about pounds. At my heaviest I was solid muscle. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat. For me it's all about inches.

Body fat % for me. Weight gain can be due to muscle growth.
