    Default Non-English music?

Haha, this feels like such a n00b question, but - anyone else a big fan of music/bands/songs that aren't in English?

...what are they like to dance to? I mean, do custies freak out, love it, not care, what?

'Cause a good chunk of my favourite OTC dancing to music, isn't in English. Just makes me want to get up and go crazy when I hear it. I get mixed feelings and cold feet about using it for work though, because while I genuinely enjoy dancing to it, it could be really offputting to custies.

Does anyone have any experience dancing to music that isn't in the language most of your customers speak? <3

I've danced to Russian music a few times, and several girls I work with will dance to either Spanish or German. In my experience, it doesn't go over well at all. Like, at all. lol

The girls who danced to Spanish instantly got branded as "chollas", no matter how they acted.

The girl that danced to German got more, "Oh my god, are you German? LOLZ! HITLER!!! JEWS!!! Can you play Du Hast next time you're on stage? Duuuuuuuuuuuuude..." and quickly started dancing to English again

Me? I got a whole lot of "OMG WAS THAT RUSSIAN? R U A LEZBIAN LYKE THE GIRLS FROM THAT ONE BAND WHO KISSED??!?!?!" and I quickly became fed up too.

It just doesn't go over well. You're much better off dancing to things in English that either blend well with the energy of the club (no going from hip-hop stuff like Single Ladies and Pop That Body to Evanescence's Lithium. Baaaaaaad idea.) that you like, or songs that people may recognize.

Figure out your target audience - do you appeal to the younger crowd? You may want to dance to hip hop. Alternative crowd? Get your Birthday Massacre and Manson on! Older "perverted old man" crowd? Bubblegum Pop. Generic crowd? Pick upbeat, lively music that keeps the energy going. Think Lady Gaga, Nickelback, that sort of stuff.

...that got long-winded. All in all, my personal experience with non-English music was NOT GOOD. I'd keep away and find other things you can tolerate.

I dance to music that isn't fully English. I like songs in other languages, but I try to stick to things that the customers can relate to which sometimes means the lyrics are in multiple languages including English.

I love Ramstein which is German. They record their songs in German and also English versions. I always prefer the German version even though I don't speak any German.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

I <3 Rammstein, seeing them live (again) in a couple of weeks. OOMPH! are the band I love dancing to the most though - I'm in Germany a few times a year though so I guess I'll have to accept that custies don't like it, and keep it to bopping about my bedroom doing the hairdryer dance.

Sometimes I dance to some Russian electronica. Rammstein (German) seems to be a hit with the girls and so is the song Gasolina which is in Spanish. To me it's something different that your average guy is not going to be able to hear unless he goes to the club. In which case if he likes the music because it sets some sort of fantasy for him - that he is in a place that is like a dream then non-english songs are probably a good thing.

I don't think Rammstein really counts in this category.... It's super mainstream, and regularly played on the radio in America... so it's not something most customers would even think twice about not being in english since they've probably heard it a million times anyway.

But for example... pick a French rock song and it's "What was that you danced to? Oh. What language was that? Do you speak French? Are you from France? Is your family from France? Will you say something to me in French? Why do you dance to French music? Do you like to stand out? Do you think it makes you more interesting to customers? Do you ever dance to anything in English?" <--- and it doesn't fucking stop. The stupid questions will just keep going and going and going. Customers will get dances... and continue to ask you stupid fucking question about the music.

BUT at least they got dances...and are speaking and acting interested in you/your music choice

"20 fucking questions costs extra". <---was my eventual answer.

I'd rather not get a dance then deal with being THAT damn annoyed.
