Man, I had one of those “if I can survive this I can do anything” auditions tonight. I guess, technically it wasn’t an audition, just a first shift, but I digress…
I went to a club tonight to audition, after calling them a couple of days ago and being told to “just show up between 8and 10 pm. Making a mental list of everything in britneyireland’s video on auditioning, I went in at 8:30 expecting either a 3 song audition or walking around for a manager.
Didn’t happen. They put my behind up there for a full stage set, 2 songs on each of the 3 stages. So I figured I only needed to do like 6 songs and then a manager would get me, right?
Ha! Nope! I never saw a manager. Never got a “you’re hired!” or a “no thanks” from anyone. Before I went up, the DJ explained to me how to do the set, and that was the only “orientation” I got. No info on what the tip out is in this club. No idea of what’s allowed/ not allowed in the club. I was scared silly I’d do something either against club rules or that was totally illegal. Hell, I didn’t even know how to get on stage, I ran the poor girl who was in front of me over before she’d finished her second song.
I did my first song, thinking I was doing okay. Then 2 girls come up there and tried to give me some tips (yes, while I was on the main stage), and I had no idea what they were saying so I just went back to dancing. There were bills on the floor, and being such a newb, I didn’t know I was supposed to leave the pole and do something to the customers who were standing up there waiting for a private show for the tip (!!!!).
I go backstage waiting for someone to tell me what to do. About an hour later, one of the girls comes by and tells me the DJ asked her to give me some tips. She did, and at that point I realized I wasn’t doing an audition, I was there until 2am when the club closed.
Later, another girl comes by and asked me if I’d given a lap dance. Then she asked me if I’d ever given one. I told her no and she gave me a short one to tell me how to do one. About 30 minutes later I gave my first one.
And that same girl told me later that we’re on rotation and I was supposed to listen for my name again to go back out. I think I missed an entire rotation, and I came back to the DJ to apologize. He told me that he wasn’t going to rotate me for the rest of the night, but about 2:15, I heard my name again.
I went back out, and one song in I think I’m doing better. The girl the DJ sent earlier to help me came back and told me “they told me to do this” and started giving me tips while I was on stage. That was totally mortifying since all the customers saw me. Then I just finished up that song, and went to the next stage. At the 3rd stage, I find the same girl who told me I was moving too fast. I’m not surprised since I’ve heard lots of people do that their first time out.
The house mom came in later, and I thought she was just some vendor selling things. Finally somebody told me who she was. She never gave me any info on the club, what I was supposed to do or anything.
At 2am, I followed the other girls to check out. They only made me pay the house fee, and I had a grand total of $16 after I paid it (it’ll get better- it has to!!!). Then the manager talked to me and said “come back when you’re ready.” I assume that means “just show up the next time you want to dance,” and not “learn how to dance before you come back here.”
I have no idea how that club works. Anybody else just get thrown up there right off the bat and get no orientation whatsoever? Please tell me this is unusual. And no, it wasn’t busy at all when I got there. It was dead and the girls were complaining about how bad the money was tonight. [/FONT]
