    Dizzy extensions: bonded or sewn?

do you have/ prefer bonded or sewn hair extensions? i used to have bonded but it fell out coz i was using the wrong type of shampoo. a lot of girls at work have sewn and say it was cheaper, better and lasts longer.

    any preferences?

I don't know about cheaper, but it definitely lasts longer, about several months (4 at the most I think?)

DO NOT GET THEM SEWN IN.
    Unless you have course-textured hair.

I got mine sewn in once - I took every precaution to keep my hair healthy and clean (I mean, I was OBSESSIVE about it), I still ended up with horrible knots, and horrible looking hair. I had fairly long hair, and I got the extensions for extra thinkness, but after I got them removed (which was a nightmare) I had to cut my hair so freaking short.

The braids they sew the hair into itch like hell also.

I've been bonding my extensions in for years (on and off, but my most recent ones I've had for like 4 months) and I love it. They stay in for 2 weeks or so, and then I remove them, my hair is just fine (except I'm in dire need of a trim, but because I keep putting extensions back in, I keep neglecting to do so). The only thing I hate is when I take them out I feel horribly ugly because my hair isn't long and thick anymore. I almost wish I had just not gotten extensions in the first place.
Also, the down side to bonding them in is sometimes the glue is difficult to get out of your hair. I don't recommend getting the shampoos and oils that are branded to help remove the glue because they seem to really fuck up my normal hair, but get a ton of conditioner (go for something cheap like Suave because you'll be using a lot of it) and apply it generously to your entire head, but especially where you glued the weft, and use a fine picked comb to gently comb the glue out.

I don't know if you're getting your hair done at a salon, or doing it by yourself, but if you're doing it by yourself and have questions about placement, feel free to message me. I do my own and with a lot of trial and error I've perfected the art of gluing hair into my head, and I have a few tricks if you're interested.

unless you are black, you probably dont want to have sewn ins. those are not for white girl hair.

i used to have the fusions with keratin bonds. they were alright, although i managed to destroy them when trying to get some of my hair blonder.... if you get any dye on the extensions it will break the bonds apart. also, if you curl your hair, make sure you dont do it while drunk.... you can melt the bonds if you get hte curling iron too close to them. i had a habit of getting drunk at work then at some point getting mad... for whatever reason curling my hair always calms me down... so i would curl my hair when drunk.

right now i have microlinks. i got htem in about a month ago... i am LOVING them!!!!!!!!

so if you can find someone who does microlinks in the area, i would get that. it doesnt have hte same priblems as the keratin bonds... and you dont have to get them completely redone as often and you can re use hair. if you have fine hair though, make sure you get the metal pieces that attatch that are lined iwth silicon. i would research whoever you get extensions iwht first, and go in for a consultation and make sure you feel comfortable. make sure you are getting virgin hair... dont get tricked into any chinese hair or what not. stylists will lie, so be careful!
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

    Yeah what everyone else said.

I'm half black so I have really thick hair, so they would hold easily. But if you have silky straight hair, don't get them sewn in.

There are 4 kinds. Bonded, glue in, snap in and sew in. (EDIT, almost forgot there are also the braided extensions that aren't sewn in, but actually braided in)

I have only had the sewn in kind personally, but I have done glue ins for friends. Well, I have the clip ins, but they just don't stay in my baby fine hair.

I really liked all my sewn ins a lot, and I have baby fine hair. Yes they do itch, though they didn't trash my hair at all, but the gal that did mine is stellar! at braiding and extensions.

I would love to try bonded someday.

Glue ins have always scared me, they can come out, but my gal pal swears by glue ins and has me do them for her often.

Nothin, I am super lucky Well, except I had to buy the (human hair) wefts, and I colored them myself, so I paid for the dye, too. I have been to beauty school, so I trade services with friends (barter). But from what I understand, it can cost upwards of $200-$300 or more not including the cost of the weft.

    OOH OOH OOH ::raises hand::

I LOVE the clip in extensions. Yes, you do have to put them in every day, but they are inexpensive and last a while before starting to look nappy or wearing out. They're human hair so they can be curled crimped straightened and waved.

I've gotten a system down so I can put mine in pretty quickly... I have really short hair and never work without them in. The best thing is, when you start to get itchy or get headaches from the weight of the hair, you just take them out.

I haven't tried the other methods yet, but would love to try fusion. I have extreme white girl hair so sewing probably isn't for me.

I also used wigs for a while until I found out that wig+pole trick= disaster.

I really want to try the keratin ones. They are supposed to last like 4 - 6 months. They sound so nice, and don't require as many hours in the chair as sew in extensions, but I don't have any friend's that have bought in to the system yet.

Ok, so I am getting extensions for the first time ever, going for a consultation next week-

...funny how I do this as a retiree, but whatever.

What is the most viable option for a white girl with very, very thick wavy hair?

I used to glue mine in.
They looked fine as long as I kept at it for months... then I started getting some thinning along the lines where it was being glued in.
Now that I've stopped...I've got a lot of shortish hairs where the glue broke off my real hair on it's way out.

I really liked having mine sewn in way better... I didn' have any problems from that. /shrug.

I prefer swen-in just because it last longer, and I have more control in washing. I have had bonded before and I find it melts in my sleep. Even if there is just a few pieces that are bonded they still fall out, and my hair breaks more with bonding glue then being swen-in.

    hey
i ended up getting sewn in coz a lot of girls at work with similar hairtype to mine have it with great results so they recomended me to a reputable place. i wasnt really keen on bonded coz not only its expensive, ill never forget how my scalp felt after having it removed. plus everything pretty much breaks the bonds down, im rubbish at looking after them while sewns are more versatile. but we will see. its only slightly unconfortable coz of the bulk at the bak of my head when i go to sleep

In my experience bonded and sewn-in weaves are/ can be damaging to the hair. If you are a black girl just get lace front wigs. The black women in Hollywood don't even waste their time on the bonding and sewing. They all wear lace front wigs. It gives you more styling opinions. You can actually take the wig off and wash your natural hair whenever you want. It also is not going to damage your natural hair either.

    Just my two cents...

i dont like lace front wigs, there is a girl in my club who thinks she is very posh and has one and she is constantly scratching her head, not a little bit, she will just sit there scratching, looks like she has lice!

She probably has scalp issues. Some people who wear lace fronts sleep with them on. This is bad for your scalp. Your scalp needs to breathe. Take the damn wig off at night!

All I know is that my lace fronts look hot as hell! I even have white people all jealous of my hair. When a white person pays a black person a sincere compliment you know you have your shit going on! Whether I'm at work, at school, at the grocery store, at church, at a party, etc. I get mad compliments.

Wow, that's crazy, the human hair weft alone (for me 21" is at least $75, and that's at the cheap beauty supply) then it takes upwards of 3-6 hrs to put in. I can't imagine someone doing it for that cheap.

Is that for a licensed pro? In the state I live in it is illegal to do any service (hair, makeup, tweezing, facials, nails) in exchange for money without a license (which you have to go to school to get) and then carry your own insurance (if freelance). That could be why it costs so much more, but still, I wouldn't do that much work for that much money.

I will add that is the base cost to get my hair done if I weren't bartering with friends. I have VERY long (baby fine) hair already and the wefts are sewn in with about a half inch in between up to about my part. If you have shorter hair and are getting shorter wefts sewn in, it might be cheaper, but I still can't imagine getting that service at that price.

    That' s awesome

Nails are crazy expensive here too.

erm no, loads of girls have them and scratch! i suppose there's always someone who has to try and bring race into an arguement i havn't seen your hair and if i did it wouldnt change my opinion whether a white person paid you a compliment or not! ive seen alot of people with lace wigs scratching like they have lice regardless.

ive been to two different licensed salons one in peterborough and one in london, not on mates rates, it took around 7 hours in peterborough so long i got a parking ticket, bought the hair seperately. the second salon i went to was in dalston london, i suppose with it being a prediminately black area with so many black salons and hair shops they have to compete.

I always go the salon in peterorough, the hairdresser there is so goog she qualified in kenya and in london and training in africa is alot harder than in the uk.

    UK£ 55 = 88.90 U.S. dollars

That's a super deal, especially for 7 hrs. Man I want to move, seems like everything here is super expensive.

Even a 12 pack of name brand soda at my local store is around $8.50+ deposit (not on sale). It's crazy how much prices have gone up in the last couple years

Well soda costs more than that here and the petrol prics are way higher, most things are more expensive. it just depends, it also depends which salon you go to, how long it has been open etc, there is alot of competition in some places and hardly any other places.

    £1.07 per litre = $1.73.
