    Default Webcam MAC question

I've just signed up with Streamate, and thought I'd be able to use my Macbook's internal camera for my shows. I'm using OS X and Safari. When I log in to Streamate though, the site is telling me that no camera is detected. I've emailed their support center about this, but just wanted to check with you ladies as well. Do I really need a separate webcam?

    Thanks!

Update - just realized that I didn't have Flash installed correctly. Fixed that, but Streamate still isn't detecting a camera.

Majority of webcam sites are not capatible with MACs you might have to get a PC.

If your able to update all the flash broadcastting settings you might be able to cam wiht your mac, but what will be dificult is using the webcam that is built-in your mac. you will need to invest in a webcam that is external from your mac or find a way to connect a video camera to your mac

I have been trying to help some girls under my studio connect their macs to the cam sites and its just been a hassle they now have to spend a few hundred on a pc jsut for camming.

As someone who is strictly MAC and can't afford nor has the desire to spend $500 on another computer (as there are other more pressing things I would do with that money)... yeah. There are a lot of sites that are NOT Mac friendly.

All I know is IMLIVE isn't one of them thus the reason I'm staying with them.

MFC is not mac friendly and won't be trying to be mac friendly anytime soon.
NF you could say isn't mac friendly in that you can only really offer Skype on your phone w/cam account. Unless my macbook is just stupid.. it had some serious problems after I installed Yahoo IM.. and MSN (for mac) doesn't allow web camming.

It's one of the reasons I won't branch out to other sites anytime soon is I'm 'stuck' with a Mac.

When logging into your account - make sure your webcam isn't being used by any other program or site! Turn off Skype or any messengers or programs that have access to your cam.

For that price you can get a PC and use it on ANY webcam site out there.

I just got through the livejasmin sign-up process with my MacBook's built-in isight. It was a bit of a struggle and I had to use their live support to get it figured out, so I wanted to post the info for anyone else who needs to use their built-in cam to get started!

When you get the the cam detection/first picture page, first of course make sure you have the most recent version of Flash that they recommend. Then click 'allow' in the webcam window at the bottom. If no image shows up, right click in the left box (where your video is supposed to show) and choose settings. Your flash player settings will open. Look at the icons and choose the last one (which looks a little like R2D2's head). You will see a drop-down menu, choose the last option (USB). I know your isight is not connected through your USB, but it works somehow. You should see your video feed in the left side!

Now you can take your snapshot, but you may also experience the problem of having the countdown and your window flashing like a picture was taken, but no image shows up on the right side. An image was taken, you just can't see it. Now you need to right click in that part of the window and again choose settings. The box will show 'Deny' and 'Allow' radio buttons. Choose Deny and then Allow. It may take a few seconds and a few impotent clicks to go back and forth. After you've switched back to Allow, click close. Now click the back button at the bottom of the screen. You will know it worked because you will not actually go back, you will move to the next screen in the sign-up process. If you actually go back or if the same page just reloads again, try again until you move forward. Do the same thing when you need to take the pic of your lovely smiling face with your ID next to it.

I had a live support person walk me through this (he or she was super cool, bonus points for livejasmin) and confirm that my pics took, but if the registration process allows you to move forward you can assume the picture took. Just be careful to take a good, clear one since you can't review it.

I hope someone else finds this helpful! I'm not even done with their registration yet, as soon as I had that figured out I popped over here to type it up before I forgot!
