    Skull I'm killing my knees

I realized today that I'm twisting around too much on the pole since I'm new at this (less than a week) and I get nervous and start doing pretty much anything when I get up there.

Overall, I'm doing okay, and I'm finding my style--just learned how to shake my ass and make some more $$ up there.

But what I'm doing is hell on my knees, and when I kneel on the floor they aren't supported. I got some cute leg warmers to cover up the bruises, but my main worry is support.

I'm thinking about going to a sporting goods store tomorrow and pick up some skate boarding pads to put under my leg warmers. I saw a girl the other day wearing some cute ones and of course I never got a chance to ask her about them.

So, would knee pads help out that much, at least while I'm getting used to the stage? I'm pretty sore right now (mostly from the twisting, which is gonna stop right now), and I don't want to put myself out of commission before I even get good and start making good $$.

This happened when I first started. I couldn't wear shorts for a month because my knees were literally bruised black and I was worried people would think I had an abusive boyfriend who liked kicking me in the knees.

Are you doing a lot of floor work? That's what bruised my knees up the most. I would try and avoid doing as many of the moves that press on your bruised areas, but still do them so that your body gets used to it. Everytime I create a new move I get bruises for a couple weeks until my body gets used to it. They'll go away it'll just take time, think of it as your stripper initiation. for now wear legwarmers.

Yeah, I'm doing whatever I can to make up for the fact that I don't have any pole tricks. Luckily, I have big boobies and that's making up for the limited skills.

I'm thinking of pulling the leg warmers over the knee pads and just trying to give my knees a little rest while I'm at it. I loves me my leg warmers.

I'm just thankful it's January and it's cold as hell. As white as I am, if I did try to go out with my knees all bruised I'd get some looks as well.

Ah, well....in a couple of months I'm gonna be kicking ass at this job.

I don't really do much floorwork... especially on my knees. I used to, but you will have problems over time and fluid will get in there - if it gets too bad you'll have to go to the doctor and have the fluid drained out.

If you are going to insist on doing a lot of floorwork then get thigh high boots and stuff the knee area with socks or lambs wool for padding.

Ha ha if anyone knows about knee pains it is me... I've only been dancing for about 6 months, but I have been in and out of the hospital 4 times for my knees, most recently last week. I am actually on "bed rest" for 2 weeks because I have SEVERE bursitis in my knees, to the point where I was literally immobile. Dancing IS the cause for all of these problems, and I was told I either need to quit or take it easy. I have a lot of floorwork I do on stage and I can't not stop doing that, so I went to the sporting good store and bought some knee pads. I wear black stockings and put the knee pads over them, and nobody can even tell I'm wearing them. I hope your knees don't get as bad as mine do, but knee pads and tylenol work great for my shifts!

^ I got basketball knee pads yesterday at the sporting goods store. They're black, just like my leg warmers. If I can ge them over my boots, I'll wear them with the boots.

I'm going back to work on Tuesday, so my knees will have a few days to take a break.

What kind of stage do you guys have? My knee problems pretty much cleared up after moving to a club that didn't have a plexiglass? light-up stage.

Plexiglass? stages have too much give, and I'd be limping around on my off days. I guess it's plexi, they are clear and have colored lights underneath them... killed my knees, plus they have sharp edges that can come unscrewed and cut you.

As far as bruising goes... it's just part of the initiation and will be over before too long. And the soreness... make sure to stretch often!

I completely stopped doing any floor and pole work about 4 years into my career. Yes my stage shows are boring, but I sell A LOT of lapdances and VIPs.

Start taking glucosamine and practice yoga a few times a week.

You know, I have no idea what our stage is made up of. I need to start doing some yoga- god knows I've got enough DVDs to practice from.

A lot of girls at my club use a small faux fur rug on stage (if you get it in black its hardly noticeable in the dark clubs) to protect their knees. It's also good for hygiene and stops u getting ass zits from putting your naked or g-string clad ass on the same spots as all the other dancers.

I second the yoga and the glucosamine, the boyfriend and I both have joint issues (mine are from my six years as a barista, believe it or not) and they really help. He swears by fish oil as well; I take flaxseed supplements instead because fish oil supplements for some reason make me feel like I smell.

Taking an NSAID like aleve for a brief period can help speed your recovery time by reducing the inflammation. This is what my doctor recommended for me since I can't have surgery right now. So does avoiding alcohol, especially beer. If you do want to see if you can stick to red wine, it is the least inflammatory form of alcohol, followed by white wine and then clear liquor. And though I've never used it a lot of girls swear that arnica helps make the bruises go away more quickly; I personally just wore thigh highs at first and later Sally Hanson's airbrush legs to hide them.

An added bonus of yoga is a lot of the moves can be adapted to the stage! I only recommend this if you are comfortable with the moves and know you won't hurt yourself doing them but I do plow all the time and it is a huge crowd pleaser, especially when I do it with spread legs and a little ass clap, lol.

those vinyl black shiny over knee boots are apparently amazing. for private shows [some girls even stage shows] bring fake or real sheep skin rugs that helped heaps to reduce swelling

Try doing standing dancing/posing. It will set you apart from every other girl that goes on the floor, and keeps the stage grime off of you! If you use the pole, do yourself a huge favor and wash it with a towl and disinfectant for sanitary reasons! (plus it will help you get waaaay better grip on the pole when your first learning!)

For anyone who has knee problems related to cartilage breaking down in their knees(chondromilacia or even arthritis) try Cosamine DS. I ran track for about 10 years...then I started dancing (I only danced for a very short time) but that stuff save my life. It takes a month or so to start working, but it really reduces the pain I have in my knees, walking up and and down stairs, as well as when doing squats and whatnot in the gym. This wont help the bruising, but it will help a bit with cartilage problems. :-)

Best thing you can do for your joints: ICE WHEN YOU GET HOME! I don't care if it's 3am, go get an ice pack and put it on your knees for 20 minutes, set a timer and then you can fall asleep. Ice is an excellent pain reliever and inflammation reducer. Inflammation is the true cause of joint degeneration so you want to prevent inflammation at all costs. This applies to knees, shoulders, back, etc.

I stopped doing a lot of knee-based floor-work (Plus we're not allowed to have more than one knee on the floor at my club, which seriously limits what you can do up there) because I was having problems with my knees. Just figure out stage sets that don't involve constantly kneeling.

I stayed off of them and I took a few weeks off while studying for my real estate license (I know- but the market has to rebound sometime!).

I'm going back next week, armed with knee pads covered by legwarmers.

I like the idea of just standing up, but I'll still have to kneel down to get the tips. I'll have to keep it easy while I'm down there.

I have been dancing for over three years and don't have ANY knee problems. I have girlfriends who have had to go to the hospital every now and again and literally get their knees drained from fluid build up. When I first started dancing I bought a sheepskin rug to dance on on stage. They cost anywhere from 40-80 dollars. I replace mine every 6-8 months and you need to take them to the dry cleaner to get fluffed. I love my rug and guys always say it's super sexy to see a topless woman on a sheepskin rug. PLUS my butt is never sitting on the same stage as all of the other girls' butts. lol Also, if you're having knee pain, especially that bad, take glucosamine. It's a supplement that you can buy almost anywhere that sells vitamins (the grocery store etc.). Glucosamine produces glycosaminoglycan which repairs and helps strengthen cartilage.

I'm serious, try getting a sheepskin. My girlfriend and I introduced them to the girls at our club and now it's becoming very popular.

ALSO! If you're going to get a "rug" get a SHEEPSKIN or faux sheepskin. I've seen girls try and use BATH MATS and trust me, it looks completely retarded.

omg this is exactly what i did on my 2nd night of dancing!! Because when i attended sexy floorwork/pole dance classes, they said to bring kneepads to practice; and so i knew that floorwork on bare knees were gonna hurt so i brought/wore my black thin kneepads and hid them with sexy black thigh high leg warmers and nobody noticed i was wearing knee pads! i slid around the pole, across the floor backwards forwards got on my knees w ass sticking out to customers like doggiestyle etc they loved it! even the other dancers stared while i was dancing!~

Honestly... if anyone is experiencing this much of an issue... you should really just stop doing floor work...
There are a lot of ladies who put on classy, sexy shows with little or NO floor work.
To include several top-earners I've seen.

Floor work is not necessary to make money.

I always wear over the knee socks. They make floorwork easier on the knees, and also make it easier to slide around on stage.

Yep thats kinda where I'm at too...I did it for all it was worth, kept getting hurt and trying to lay off but I just cant help crawling all around on hands and knees! It looks so sexy and it's nice to get off my heels for a minute. Plus I have the type of butt that looks great all smoothed out in doggystyle position wheras standing up, you can see all the cellulite dimples.

So have fun with it while you can but I can't imagine any stripper really making a longtime habit of being on her knees on a hard surface. It goes against the logic of our bodies.

I also tried the kneepads under boots thing but boots are not my style and get too sweaty inside. Even though I sold a lot of dances just for being that chick in the boots (gold boots) I like to have my legs free to flirt

Theres always one of two girls who rock black boots with everything though, I think it looks great on blondes! Good luck!

Most of the things that I would recommend have already been said. Glucosamine supplements as well as an omega 3 supplement like fish oil or flax seed would help. Also a cream with either arnica or calendula will help with the bruising. When I first started dancing my legs and especially my knees looked like I was dealing with some kind of abuse. It goes away though. While knee pads help for now, you do want your knees to be able to adjust to floorwork so they don't keep bruising. It's like doing pole tricks with behind the knee holds, if you don't go through the pain and bruising, you'll never be able to do them like a pro.
