I prefer "floor work" on stage as opposed to most pole tricks. I danced for 4 years and was developing calcium deposits on the knee caps (felt like hard pieces of bone or cartilage loose under skin). I retired from dancing for 4 years after getting a job out of college. It took almost a year for the damage to start reversing.
I started dancing again 6 months ago and immediately started having problems with my knees again. There are a couple things that may be keeping me from getting as bad as I was before:
1. I try to be more careful of the weight and pressure I put on my knees when I'm doing floor routines
2. I take glucosamine pills (suppliment that is supposed to lubricate and repair joints) with a daily vitamin
3. Sometime I use it as a tactic to get VIP's and off the dancing list: Please save me from myself and take me upstairs so I can use my energy on you and not the pole/stage.
