any good learn-to-pole-dance youtube videos or websites? Not just "look at me" videos, but instructional types? Ive looked, but all i get are the ones that show the dances and moves, but don't tell you how to do them.
Thanks!

I thought this one was pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEHo5PAYq3o

A fantastic website for pole dancing is www.polejunkies.com they have a forum that has sections about how to do pole moves and a lot of girls post their videos about how to do moves![]()

^^^ I agree. I really dislike seeing people learning from videos, because you can hurt yourself. If you insist on learning online though polejunkies or polechamp are good options.

I am taking classes here in the Springs, but they progress so slowly! only three spins/tricks per class.
they go level one, two, three, four and five. BUT, you have to repeat the levels up to 6 times! arrrgghhh....and only ONE class per month. very frustrating...

If you have a pole at home I would really look into the classes polejunkies offers online! Seriously you advance quick with her and shes amazing! Plus shes a retired feature dancer, she was one of the best in the world and she is head of IPF Canada![]()

I would say don't bother. You don't even want to get me started on them. Try asking them for their qualifications though... ie who they've trained under. Then try asking them about their insurance for POLE DANCING.
BTW, don't quote me on this because I'm planning to remove it. They are not in my book of places I like though.
If you know the moves, can accomplish the moves safely, and make the move look good... there's no reason to repeat the course 6 times.
If you want my opinion that place is all about the money, not about training.

well, they ARE the only pole "studio" in town. I do agree completely agree with you about the $$$ thing...it's one of the reasons I am so incredibly FRUSTRATED. The teachers are not fantastic; quite frankly, when I worked at Deja Vu, I had better teachers, but Springs Salsa gets the job done.
Each time I take the course, I learn new moves, but only learning 3 moves at a time is irritating.
I will ask who THEY have trained under...hahaha...maybe they'll clue me in to a better place or point me in the right direction.
Where would you reccomend, Kylea?

Alena Downs used to do pole instruction online through webcam...not sure if she still does though. Worth looking into.

^^ She still does actuallyAfter my baby i'll be training with her to teach as well.

What I'd recommend is staying on their mailing list, because they'll let you know when guest instructors are coming into town. I talked to Pantera on the phone last fall and they are planning to have her come in. When they do that, enroll for the special guest instructor classes or contact the instructor directly and ask about private lessons. You can also train online through Alena Downs (Pole Junkies) or Nakita Kash (Pole Champ). Nakita was just in town last fall and if you'd scheduled with her in advance you could have probably had a private lesson. Another thing I strongly suggest is when you travel to other cities go take private lessons. I travel to Vegas a couple times a year and try to take lessons with well known instructors when I'm there.
If you decide to go with online lessons I'd recommend doubling up with someone at your same level who can spot you. This may not work as well as a teacher, but they can help keep you from falling, and often you'll be suprised at what even an untrained eye can catch that you are doing wrong.
The problem with many of the Colorado instructors is that most of them have no formal training/have bad personalities/or hate the industry. I know of one instructor who owns a studio in Colorado who broke down and cried every night for a month when she actually worked at a real club. Another one has nothing but ill words to speak of clubs and pretty much hates men at this point.. which is a shame because she knows the body mechanics amazingly well. Many others have never stepped foot in a club and are very into yoga - so 45 mins of your 1 hr training becomes a yoga warm-up. There's really no reason for your warm-up to last more than 15 mins other than the instructor is wasting time.
