I really liked the agency I'm currently working for, but today I got an email in my inbox describing new policies and procedures. I've been in this business since I was 18, and I've worked in many different markets....Miami, Orlando, NYC, NJ, Boston, LA, SF, Raleigh, Greensboro. Pretty good idea of how things work by now. I've been working with my current agency since November, and I am their top earner with the best reviews and the most experience. I've actually been in the biz longer than my agent has!!! So I know what works and what doesn't, and I don't like it when someone comes along and tries to reinvent the wheel.
Here's a few things that are REALLY rubbing me the wrong way.
- They want me to take new pictures, with their "photographer" (I'm not dumb, it's the owner with a PowerShot and a bootleg copy of Photoshop) and pay $100 for it. My current photos were taken by a photographer who regularly shoots for Maxim, so I KNOW they're good. They're fully-clothed, and all the other agency girls have pretty much naked photos of themselves. I don't do that shit, it attracts the wrong kind of clientele, and who's going to pay for it if you can see it for free?
- Again, I am the top earner for the agency, I consistently pull in $500+ per day (and that's THEIR cut, not mine.) So they can eat $80 to pay for my incall location. Seriously.
- $25 charge for "pick up of agency fees" or a $10 processing charge through their credit card processing company, or varying rates between $5 - $20 (based on how much money you're wiring) to Western Union it. Again, if I make that much money for you, you can eat the $10 in gas it takes to pick up the damn fees.
Of course, there's other stuff that's pretty standard in my opinion, but the above is just ridiculous in my opinion, especially when I make them money, especially when I'm the top dog in the agency, and ESPECIALLY when I have taken it upon myself to train the new girls for free.
And they chopped my rates because they're not doing a good enough job of marketing/advertising me. AND they still owe me $200 for an appointment booked via credit card.
Yeah, we're all in this to make money, dude. But DON'T get greedy on me.
I think after I get a car I'm switching back to indie. Hell, I may even start my own service that is provider-oriented, not customer-oriented.
I look at it this way...in this business, very attractive girls who are willing to do this work are hard to find. Very attractive, intelligent girls who are willing to do this work AND have a great work ethic AND are honest are one in a million. And if you treat the girls like dogs, the only girls who will be willing to work with you will be dogs! You can't have it both ways!
Rant over.
