    Default Girls using steroids?

So I'm getting ready to get that bikini body back for summer. I've been in and out of the gym since high school and have used a variety of sports supplements over the years. But here I am at 40 and it is getting harder and harder to get that muscle tone back after my winter down time every year.

I was wondering if anyone has tried steroid cycling to gain that little extra edge? I am also looking to cut fat more quickly as well as add more muscle. I'm primarily concerned about health issues that could be long term like bone loss and cancer. Extra hair and a deeper voice aren't really something that is off-putting to me. My voice is really quite high already, and my hair is blond, so those side effects aren't of concern.

While I've never taken steroids, I worked with a girl who did. It mde the hair on her head fall out after a while. It also made her body more "blocky", and less feminine. I wouldn't do it if l was you. If you do end up taking them, really research the side effects.

    Be well.

You should try supplements before you go as far as using steroids. You can get fat burners that contain estrogen blockers which will harden your body up.

    synthetic Peptides
Guy I work with swears by them. He did take one that makes you tan, and it worked rather well. Downside you need to inject them with insulin needles.

No no no! Dont do it! Too many side effects and you don't wanna look like a man. One of my customers took steroids for a little while and he said it really messed him up. He said he will regret it for the rest of his life.

If you can't be dissuaded then look into Primobolan, it's probably the only one you'd want to use as a woman. Also research and get your PCT locked down before you even consider doing a cycle. You would probably be better off using HGH in the long run, or Clenbutoral for short term.

Wow, this is really good information. It looks like I have my research work cut out for me. I've used some of the usual supplementation that is common in fitness training, and I've really seen very little difference in performance with the supplements than without. Sleep and diet have made the biggest difference overall, with the supplements turning out to be a waste of money by comparison.

My goal isn't to look big, it is to be stronger and leaner. Anyone who has reached middle age knows that making strength gains at this age is really, really difficult. I was hoping to hear from some women that have used steroids and what worked and what didn't. I'm also concerned about any mental health side effects such as memory loss or depression caused by steroid usage.

Thanks so much for all the great and helpful replies! Keep 'em coming!

I used to do competitive fighting, and while I never did steroids, I know many girls/guys who did.

The biggest misconception with steroids is that it'll help with your fat and muscle. It really doesn't. What steroids DO do is help your fatigue levels, pain levels, and recovery.

If you keep your workout routine as is, and add steroids, you won't see much of a difference, if at all.

Steroids just help you lift heavier, for more reps, so you can work out harder and longer, which is how you get results.

This is something that I have been around but have never actually tried. In any case consider this. The results on what steroid use does to a body are still out as far as long term affects. Not scientific here and certainly not accusatory, but a lot of former WWE stars seem to be dropping dead at an early age for one reason or another. Guys in the NFL have had real problems in there later years. Science really doesn't know what it does long term. I wouldn't put thatin my body.

Hey what kinda fight sports did you compete in? Correction on one point, steroids actually do help to create new muscle. They bind with cell receptors that tell the body to build new proteins (muscles), and at a faster rate. But you're right on the other points.

Please, please, please read the following article. This trainer knows what he's talking about, and presents the pros and cons of steroid use in a clear, objective manner.

    http://figureathlete.tmuscle.com/art...gic_potion&cr=

In my very humble opinion, I think there's one question you must ask yourself: are the long term and, in some cases, irreversible side effects worth it? That's something only you can answer. But please know that there are ways to be fit, lean, and cut that do not require steroids. Hard work, yes. But not unalterable changes to your body. You may also want to read some of this trainer's other articles here for ideas on eating plans and workouts that will make you look awesome without drugs:

Three other things I forgot to mention:

1.) Steroids are not something that can or should be taken constantly over a long period of time. As the above article states, they are used in cycles. Once a cycle is over, your body will return to "normal" very quickly.

2.) As you mentioned Paris, steroid use can result in decreased bone density. Women, more so than men, must worry about osteopenia and osteoporosis later in life. This is just another piece of information to consider.

3.) There are other pharmaceutical options available that can help your body look leaner and your muscles more defined. Prescription or over-the-counter diuretics are also used by physique athletes, but aren't as detrimental as steroids. Again, they're probably not good for constant, long-term use. They're something to consider if you have an event to attend, or over brief and intermittent periods.

Creatine isn't a great option for women trying to look leaner. Creatine acts by pulling more water into the muscles. This does two things. First, it makes muscles look larger because of the extra water in them. Second, the extra fluid creates more space between muscles fibers which allows for relatively more muscle fiber growth (after an intense weight-training session) than would have occurred without the creatine. I hope this makes sense.

Paris my trainer is a female body builder and a natural competitor. She is in her 40s and has two children. Her body is hard!! She doesnt take steroids. It's all diet, weight training and supplements. She recommends L-carnitine which is a lipotropic - fat transporter. Also glutamin to stop muscle breakdown. Give these a try they are not a waste of time or money.

Remember men using steroids is not a huge thing as testostorone is found in their bodies. For a woman to introduce testostorone which is not naturally occuring in the female body causes much more side effects.

It is important to take a low dose so that side effects are kept to a minimum. If u decide to take them please find someone knowledgable who has used them for years (preferably female) to mentor you.

    Physical side effects -

you loose curves and body does appear more masculine. reduction in breast tissue.
Depression and mood swings are also a potential side effect.
steroids cause u to retain sodium so u may appear puffy.Steroid use can also lead to cervical and endometrial cancer and possibly even eventually infertility.Other physiological effects include damaging of the liver, increased cholesterol levels, weakened immune system and a possibility for cardiovascular damage or heart attacks.

This site talks about side effects and alternatives to steroids:

    WATCH.

If you want to get back in shape, check out bodyspace.com and Oxygenmag.net (<- the forums for Oxygen Mag- but I think the magazine is a big waste of money, same pictures and exercises over and over again).
You said you don't want to get big- yeah, it's pretty difficult for women to get big because women only produce about .5mg of testosterone daily (compared to men @ 6-8 mg daily). But add in anabolic steroids, which is essentially produced as a synthetic testosterone and yeah, you'll accomplish the opposite effect of what you say you want.

I know plenty of over-40 women who have AMAZING bodies.
God, I sort of hate Tosca Reno, but you should read about her, her background, and how she came to have the amazing body she has today. It is really inspiring.

    Lift. Cardio. Eat clean.
    Voila.

Anabolic steroid use for women is HIGHLY specific and few know all that much about beyond what they have heard/read in the popular press, etc.

Women also tend to react much more idiosyncratic to steroids, so some can experience side effects where others will not.

There are some steroids that are absolute no go for women, some that are borderline, and a few that are effective, low on side effects, etc., but the comments on idiosyncratic responses apply.

Web site with generally solid info on steroids is:

www.mesomorphosis.com. They have a forum and I recall a women's section there for further info.

My advice, if you're interested is, probably not worth messing with when you also add legality, costs, and quality.

Ill ask my trainer. They sell them at a supplement store here. She mentioned that she told a staff member off for selling them to women without warning them that they block estrogen.

Steroids do not replace hard work. Body builders who take steroids are not cheating IMO (unless they are in a natural association) because it still takes such hard working and dieting to look the way they do. Steroids help with strength and aid in recovery but they do not build muscle - this is done in the gym lifting heavy and by eating a large quantity of food high in protein. The quantity of food that some body builders that I know eat would blow your mind! Steroids allow the body builder to grow more when they have reached a certain point that they cannot go past.

I can see the appeal for men but not women. I don't think it's an attractive look whatsoever. There is so much more that can be tried and which will be successful. Diet is the most important and weight training along with cardio. Also supplements.
