step 1. go to a club
step 2. dance and get naked
    step 3. collect money

    ta-da, you're a stripper.

I was out of work and days from being evicted from my apartment. So I did an amateur contest and won. I made a career change almost instantly.

I was a month away from my 29th b-day. I was in the middle of a bitter divorce and my family couldn't help me out financially at all.

I think being a little older when getting started helped me keep perspective on the job. This was in 1998, when stripping was really awesome! I made nearly $2000 in my 1st week without doing a single private dance, that was all just stage tips.

I count myself lucky to have been able to dance when the economy was doing so well. It is much more competitive today and you have to have mental toughness to do this job day in and day out. If I had started today, I know I wouldn't have been able to stick with it. I'm not that great at handling rejection, and it would be an issue for me.

Check reviews online for the clubs close to you. The reviews on this forum come from both dancers and customers, so you can get a good idea of what to expect from the various clubs. Find out where the best ones are, and go in to see what it's like. Watch some of the girls onstage. Watch how the customers behave. Don't be afraid to call one of the girls over and tell her you're thinking about getting a job, and ask any questions you have. It's especially nice if you're willing to tip her for the information After that, if you're interested, see if the manager's present, and if you can schedule an audition or interview. Some places don't even make you audition: I never had to, and I know lots of girls who didn't have to either.

Or you can always call and ask when the manager will be at the club and if you can schedule the audition. I think it might be a little easier if you see the girls working there first--you can get some ideas for how to dance. Just remember to move slowly, keep your toes pointed, back arched, and shoulders back. And RELAX. Nobody will expect you to be an expert pole dancer or something at your first audition.

ok i understand what you mean. Honestly, right now I feel like stripping is my only option for a job rite now bc no1 will hire me bc i hav no previous job experience. Im ok with stripping, i just hope I can actually get a job nd, i kno this is going to sound annoying bt bc of how the economy is nd i hav no experience rite now in stripping, that my body is in fact gud enuff.

bt from wat im reading, confidence has a lot to do with geting customers nd "working it"

You shouldn't get into stripping with a feeling of desperation. If you do that, you won't last long, and you'll be miserable. It's completely possible to do this job without sacrificing your integrity or boundaries. Just be healthy about it--don't feel that you have to "put up" with your job. If you start at one club and feel uncomfortable about the environment, find another club to work at.

Confidence comes pretty quickly with this job. When I was a kid, I hated my legs. With a passion. They were bony and my feet turn outwards, and I was teased mercilessly about it every fucking day. When I hit puberty, I stopped wearing shorts or skirts above the knees. I literally never ever exposed my legs in public a single day in my life. The first time I was out in public with my bare legs showing was my first night dancing at my club. Within a week, it no longer bothered me. And you know what? I get complimented on my legs all the time now. It's okay to be nervous, but you'll get over it pretty quick. Not all guys like blonde barbie dolls.

I wasn't toned when I started--I was fairly thin, but certainly not toned. Anywhere. I had what some people referred to as the "new girl flab." It went away within a few months. And honestly, it's usually only the really high-class gown clubs that turn away girls who aren't already perfect. As long as you're not fat, it shouldn't be an issue. Wear clothes that flatter you, and that FIT--nothing looks worse than a G-string that is cutting into your hips really bad. Of course, your body and your looks DO matter in this business, but as I said, not everyone wants a blonde barbie doll. And if your avatar is you, I wouldn't worry--you look pretty hot. If you feel like you need to be thinner, then sure, get a gym membership and work out for a bit. Whatever gives you confidence.

I DECIDED TO DO IT CUZ IT LOOKED FUN & FLIRTING IS EASY. SAD BUT TRUE. I wanted to see if i could do it. easy money
i took a class, then bought a pole. self taught at home. few tips from 2 ex dancers.

i have a fear of loooking like a complete fool, so i wanted to have experience before actually working .

now i have an advantage cuz most girls dont experience pole burn, bruises and things like tht UNTIL THEY START. alot of girls dont know pole tricks just beginning either, =) the 1st time i pole danced i was sore for 3 or 4 days. my arm wasnt back to normal until 8 days.

It will be a lot less awkward for you to tell them that you are CONSIDERING dancing than to tell them after you've already started, and a lot less awkward than getting caught.

Muscle tone will make you gain a little weight, so don't think that losing weight = being toned. From your avatar you look fine - it just depends on the club, on whether they'll hire you or not. Go audition.

From your picture you look like you would do fine. When Im going to a new club, I always take a guy friend and go as a customer first.
Dancing isnt as hard as you think it will be and once you get over the initial stage fright you should do fine. While your at the club, get a lapdance, or pay a dancer for her time to sit and talk to you about the club.

I don't have a car. I catch the bus to and from one of the clubs I work at. However, I work dayshift there and the club is located in a very safe area as is my home, not the kinds of places where one would be afraid to walk around after dark anyway.

For the record, I worked night shift in a seedy area of town here in Vegas, and I took the bus. Scary, but I needed to work, ya know? Good luck honey!

Now I may be wrong, but I do believe you have to be at least 18 to start dancing.

Seriously, since you are so young, you might want to consider waiting a bit to start dancing. Where I worked, we had a girl still in high school dancing. Now, I know not every girl is the same, but still...she was a MESS! She lived with her parents who weren't very supportive of her which drove her to dancing to make some quick cash. Long story short, she bought too much into the "lifestyle". That meaning drugs, pricey clothes, partying all night, drinking, smoking, sleeping around. AGAIN, I know that many girls on this board ARE NOT like that, BUT, there are many stippers who ARE.

I worry that since you are young you may enter into this, and that frightens me.

You NEED to be strong mentally to be able to handle stripping and not become effected by it. This is a form of the sex industry, and it comes with many of the same problems. PLEASE be careful.

I started dancing at 19. Only a select few know about it. and honestly, I started dancing out of desperation. my day time job wasn't paying enough and I had bills. but going into the business you gotta stick to your values and morals because its sooo easy to get sucked into the fast money life. I've never done any drugs or extras.. just remember what your there for, to work and to make money!
I was lucky to have a friend that had already been dancing and she helped me on my first day. but really its not that hard to do. Find a club, talk to a manager and check it out. if you like it, ask if you can audition and if they say yes, come back with your stripper gear.

If you have no transportation it may be easier to focus on getting a job during daylight hours. If you find a job close enough to a club to take a cab you still need cash to geto to your audition and to get to an from your 1st shift.

Also you'll need to read the other sections ot put together outfits.

    to help:

look good on your audition and when you walk in for the first time so they don't turn you away at the door.

don't be afraid to get naked-practice sexily taking off your clothes before you audition so it doesn't look to awkward.

you look good in your avatar-I wouldn't worry too much about your weight, but if you jiggle, some weights wouldn't hurt.

Be polite to those you meet, but don't be a doormat or fawning over other girl, like "oh, your so awesome to be working here for soooo long", etc etc. Other girls will dismiss you so fast-watch your tone of voice and what you say.

If the club isn't too far away, you can always do the taxi thing. If this is the route you choose, don't depend on making money at the club that night for the fare.

    best of luck

I work day shift and I take the bus to and from the club. If I end up staying later, I make sure a friend can come pick me up or I sometimes carpool with one of the other girls. That sort of thing won't happen until you develop a sort of friendship with someone there.

I would recommend talking to your mom first. If she is actually cool with it, she may be able to give you rides. Perhaps you have a really good friend who will support you on this who can help too? You never want to be in this desperate situation where you are stranded and some customer offers you a ride. Never do that! You don't know who these men are.
