    Default Piercings, need advice

OK, the other day my wife says that she was thinking of getting her nipple pierced. Now I'm open to the idea and she's a fun girl who from time to time has been known to flash people. She is a little worried that it would hurt. After she brought this up, I said kind of off hand, "would you consider getting something done 'down there'?"

She wasn't opposed to the idea. I'm asking here because I've seen in other threads that some of you have these kinds of piercings.

    I have several questions:

    1) Do these hurt really bad and if so does one hurt more than the other?

    2) How is the healing? Does either take a really long time or is potentialy troublesome?

    3) Does either kind require a break from certain "activities" if you know what I mean.

    4) Does the one down there get in the way or make things uncomfortable.

Thanks for your time and any info would be appreciated.

    1. Of course it hurts, flesh is being punctured by a blunt object without any anesthesia!
    2. Healing varies by individual
    3. For genital piercings a 4-6 week healing time is required and abstinence from sex is part of that. Infections may result from having sex before a genital piercing is fully healed.
    4. Don't know. I've not had the guts to go there.

First of all, by "down there" do you mean

    Clitoral
    Hood
    Inner labia
    Outer labia

Information will vary depending. Although with all SOME abstinence for a period of time is generally recommended. Of course, the length of time will very depending on who you talk to. I've heard everything from 2 weeks to 3 months with 4-6 weeks (as was already mentioned) being the most common. Also, it's rare but piercing the clit directly can lead to a permanent loss of feeling. Of course all of them can get infected and run any other basic risk of piercing. I mean, it's an injury afterall. The longer you abstain and the more careful you are afterward the faster it will heal and the less complications you risk. That's just fact with any wound.

Okay... I'm probably gonna get flack for being picky, but seriously, can you not talk like an adult? You're asking about piercings "down there". There are many, many different female genital piercings. So you need to get comfortable with words like "labia" and "clitoral hood" and then ask again when you know exactly which piercing she's interested in. However...

Nipples generally hurt worse than female genital piercings.

Nipple piercings are generally painful during healing, and take a long time. The chest area, especially on a woman, gets scraped by bras, t-shirts, loofahs in the shower, towels, bedding, etc; they get laid on during sleep, and also, accidental bumps and snags happen.

And those "activities" would be what, exactly? Sex? Breastfeeding? Common sense should tell you to keep your bacteria-ridden mouth off of a fresh piercing.

If the one "down there" (again, this is the genital area, for future reference) was seriously preventing people from having enjoyable or comfortable sex, do you really think so many people would do it?

Also, you could call or visit your local tattoo parlor and talk to an ACTUAL PIERCER about any concerns you have. If they're not willing to discuss pros and cons of piercings you're interested in, that's a good sign that you probably need to find another piercer. I understand there is probably a few piercers on this site, but they won't be the ones poking holes in you or your girlfriend.

Sorry to sound like a total bitch, but I don't understand why someone would come to an 18+ adult site and talk like a middle-schooler.

And WTF is up with flashing?! Don't give that shit away for free.

ALL IN ALL, MY NIPPLES WERE DONE AND ALL I DID WAS JUMP CUZ I WAS NERVOUS. QUICK PINCH PAIN. THEN ITS OVER.

also, like with what paris said...

I will never -ever- understand why people ask me if "this piercing" or "that piercing" hurt. I mean, really? A better question would be "how bad did that hurt?" or maybe "compared to...."

Of course it hurts. That's like asking "does sticking a needle through your penis/labia/hood/testicles/etc hurt?"

because that's exactly what a genital piercing is... or any other piercing for that matter. What do people expect me to say? "no, it felt like unicorns licking ice cream off my toes"

    ?

    1) It's different for everyone. For some people... this sort of thing is the most painful thing in the world... some people it doesn't hurt at all.

    2) Healing time also varies... Genital piercings typically heal faster than nipple piercings... but there is, of course, risk of infection/complications with any sort of piercings.

    3) Yeahh. You're not going to want to have sex with a fresh genital piercing. And obviously you don't want saliva in a fresh nipple piercing.

    4) Depends on the person. For me... the one down there both got in the way and made things uncomfortable. But there are a lot of girls who really love it. So. You never know.

When I had my hood done, there was anaesthetic involved. My nipples weren't too bad. My nose hurt more than my nipples.

Nipples? Treat like any other piercing - don't bash them about, clean them with sterile saline. Genital piercings? These are really fast healing piercings, but no sex for MINIMUM of two weeks. I would keep vibes off it too.

Most girls get hood piercings (vertical) because they, ostensibly, rub against your clit and that feels good. But they won't get in the way, unless you get like massive ear hoops put in, dangling.

I'm guessing that she would get the vert clitoral hood.

Thank you all. I'm guessing that with all this information, she might shy away from the down there. Taking 4 to 6 weeks off isn't in the cards.

I bet she gets the nipple done though.

    Thanks again.

I was advised to abstain for 2 weeks alone, and was fine after that, though my piercing's a horizontal hood.

Besides the obvious, what's the difference between Horiz and Vert? Care, experience, comfort, etc.

Vertical: Usually done with a barbell or banana bar, stimulates the clitoris, not every woman's anatomy is suitable.

Horizontal: Usually done with a captive ball ring, can stimulate the clitoris, much more women can get this.

They're both really easy to clean in my experience, and mine (horizontal), I just do not feel when walking about. Very comfortable. Also, because they're in a warm, sheltered, self-cleaning environment, there's little chance of anything going wrong unless you sit in a bacterial culture or try and lift weights with it.

The thought of getting "down there" pierced makes me cross my legs. I had my nose pierced years ago and it hurt so much, way more than my tattoos. The tears were streaming down my face.

Nose piercings hurt like a biiiiitch, I cried my eyes out when I got mine done. Skinworks in town numb you up for like half an hour before they pierce anything below the belt, I was so appreciative

You were secretly born with a nose for a bellybutton. I'm sorry.

In reality, did your piercer say it was a weird shape or something? I have a friend that had to get hers upside down because of the shape of it.

Thank you all for your help. Please feel free to add something if you'd like. My wife has come down with one of those wonderful winter bugs so i don't think we will not be discussing this for a few days at least.

Thanks again for being so helpful.

^nah, my bellybutton is pretty standard issue. I'm sure there are many factors. Piercer, mental state, what I ate that day, time of the month (there have been studies suggesting you're more sensitive to pain during certain times), etc. etc....

my eyebrow was the least painful for me.

    oh hey piercer here!
    Nipples:
    1. Yes it hurts. Not gawd awful but it's a good burn. Most people describe it as a bad titty twister.
    2. Female nipples take 6 months to heal. It's a long time but well worth the wait. During this time she has to clean the piercings multiple times a day with a sea salt solution.
Other things: Wear a bra at all time to keep the piercing from getting knocked around, no swimming in lakes or pools (you can shower are normally), wear a sports bra to bed, and watch out for anything that goes across your chest (seat belts, messenger bags). Try not to get pierced right before your period, your breasts are already more sensitive.

    3. One big rule: NO BODY FLUIDS! Never ever ever lick a healing nipple piercing. Worst idea ever.

    Genital:
    1. It's a very intense pinch, but then its done and feels healed as soon as its over.

    2. Most areas heal in one month. Most women get a vertical clitoral hood piercing. This adds stimulation to the clitoris. Fouchettes, inner labia, triangle, and horizontal hoods all take one month to heal. Outer labia takes 3 months.

    3. Wear a condom during sex, no body fluids in healing piercings!!! Depending on placement you may want to avoid certain positions (example: VCH, avoid missionary). Drinking water helps keep urine from burning the piercing.

    4. Genital piercings only enhance pleasure. No sensitivity should be hurt, unless she got a botched clitoral piercing (not to be confused with clitoral hood, 97% of women don't have the build to get their actual clit pierced).

And of course, make sure you go to a good piercer, ask to see a portfolio. If their studio doesn't remind of you a doctor's office LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.

Feel free to ask me questions if ya'll have any!

    1) Do these hurt really bad and if so does one hurt more than the other?

Of course there is some level of pain associated with ANY piercing. Whether or not it hurts less or more is going to depend on the individual.

    2) How is the healing? Does either take a really long time or is potentialy troublesome?

Everyone heals differently. There's no guarantee for anything. Technically if it's taken care of, she should be fine and fully healed in 6 - 8 wks.

    3) Does either kind require a break from certain "activities" if you know what I mean.

Nipple no (but initially you'll have to be gentle, assuming she allows you to touch it all, and NO SALIVA). Clit yes no sex for a bare minimum of 2 weeks.

    4) Does the one down there get in the way or make things uncomfortable.

    Nope.

    From the American Piercing Association:
    NIPPLES:

    • The support of a tight cotton shirt or sports bra may provide protection and feel comfortable, especially for sleeping.
    GENITAL:

    • Genital Piercings-especially Prince Alberts, Ampallangs, and Apadravyas-can bleed freely for the first few days. Be prepared.
    • Urinate after using soap to clean any piercing that is near the urethra.
    • Wash your hands before touching on (or near) a healing piercing.
    • In most cases you can engage in sexual activity as soon as you feel ready, but maintaining hygiene and avoiding trauma are vital; all sexual activities should be gentle during the healing period.
    • Use barriers such as condoms, dental dams, and waterproof bandages, etc. to avoid contact with your partners’ body fluids, even in monogamous relationships.
    • Use clean, disposable barriers on sex toys.
    • Use a new container of water-based lubricant; do not use saliva.
    • After sex, an additional saline soak or clean water rinse is suggested.
Each body is unique and healing times vary considerably. If you have any questions, please contact your piercer.

I had my nose pierced when I was 18. It never healed because it was botched- I got spider cracks in the cartilage and now nine years later you can still feel where it used to be. Plus the guy did such a bad job it bruised my nose and blacked my eye.

    NOT. COOL.

It's actually one of the fastest healing areas to get pierced. Plus, I like the look of it just as much as any other piercing.....I love showing it off on stage.
