    Lightbulb Good photo website?

Where do you guys go when you need to put pics etc online? I've heard about Flickr and Photobucket but I havent tried them myself... not the most technical minded gal here lol!

I'm looking for a good website where I can upload lots of photos (videos would be good too).... my sister lives far away and I take so many pictures of just stupid shit like my cats, that I can never get them all emailed to her. It'd be good if it had some kind of password on it so that creepy people can't view my life too. Anyone have any advice on somewhere with a good rep?

    Thanks!

Honestly, Photobucket is about the best one to use. Or you could make an album on Facebook and send her the link to view.

I'm a high heels model and this is just my thing.

I would highly recommend 'Flickr' to begin with. It's very easy to use - and you can open a Free Account in minutes:

    www.flickr.com

You have a maximum of 200 photos you can show - however you can delete and re-post different photos at any time. You can upload Video Clips as well. You can also set the viewing 'preferences' - or access - to Public (everyone), Friends or Family. 'Flickr' is a Photo Sharing site - so it's no good if you want to post your pictures on Websites or Forums - but you can arrange your images into Sets and Albums - and you can send people links to your photo pages and albums. You can protect this by setting a password for them to use as well.

There are other Sites, like 'Imageshack', 'Community Webshots' etc - so there is a lot of choice - but 'Flickr' is the largest and probably the best.

Next - for Sharing AND posting on Websites and Forums like this one - that's where 'Photobucket' comes in:

    www.photobucket.com

Again - you can open a Free Account in minutes and there is a large upload allowance as well. You can set up Photo Albums and Sub-Albums and again, you can set the 'Sharing' or viewing access like 'Flickr' - including private passwords for friends and family - and you can also upload Video Clips. However - the advantage with 'Photobucket' is that ALL your images are 'tagged' with codes for posting them on 'Blogs', Forums and Websites. All you need to do is 'cut, or copy - and paste' the code into whatever post you are making.

On both these sites, there is a maximum upload allowance for free accounts (of course) - but for not a lot of money - you can upgrade to a 'Pro' Account if you need to store a large number of images.

    Finally 'there's 'Filemail.com':

If you want to send EMails with big files of pictures - and/or Video Clips - to friends, family etc - you can use a place called 'Filemail.com'. It's completely free to occasional users and you can upload and EMail Photo Albums as big as 2GB (that's about 1,600 pictures) to friends.

    www.filemail.com

All you do - is go to the Homepage and follow the instructions to upload your photographs. It gives you the facility to write an EMail message to that person, by entering their EMail address in the message box - and if you enter your own EMail address as the 'Sender' as well - you'll get a confirmation of your images having been sent to the recipient, at your own EMail account Inbox .

To upload - just select the pictures from your PC or Laptop using the simple Upload Box - and then click Send. It does ALL the rest for you. The recipient gets an EMail giving them a direct link - which takes them to the Download Page that you have automatically created by uploading your photos in the first place. They get a slideshow of your pictures - and they can download them all - or just a selection, if they so wish. They have 5 days to do this - and they can download your photos up to 10 times.

So in short - 'Flickr' is for 'Sharing' photos. 'Photobucket' is for 'Sharing' AND 'Posting' photos on Forums etc. - and 'Filemail' is for 'Sending' them to friends and family to keep.

I use all three of them all the time - and I have never had a problem in the 5 years I have used them....and that's processing over 17,000 photos too!

    Hope this helps.

    Flikr, hands down.
Not only can you upload, but you can see other photographers work if it hasnt been marked private.

This is the link to the "Interesting from the last 7 days" page, which changes pictures every time you refresh.

There are some stunning pictures on here.
My favorites are really colorfull landscapes, like most of the images by this person...
