Just curious. I read somewhere that everybody has some level of tinnitus (ringing in the ears). When you plug your ears, what -exactly- do you hear? Is it really "nothing" or do you hear any sounds?

I definitely have tinnitus. I can sometimes stop noticing it so pertinently, but it's always there.
It's almost like a dog whistle for me - very, very high pitched and consistent.
Get the fuck off my harbl, yo'.

I totally plugged my ears and did this. All I heard was my blood rushing.

I did the same and heard a very faint high pitch noise but had to listen very very carefully cause there was a louder wind-like noise above it.
Yeah, I did the same with a faint high-pitched ringing, but in no way annoying. It was much more of a problem for me when I was bartending around ridiculously loud music for ten hours a night.

Wind noise = your own blood pressure noise.
All I heard was my blood rushing, and my pulse.
I have it sometimes when I come home after a shift or if I've been out somewhere with loud music playing, but I just now plugged my ears and listened and there was nothing.

I get it from time to time. At one point is was HORRIBLE and non stop for weeks! Triggers like lack of sleep, lound music, my neck being out all bring it on. Now I go weeks without noticing it.

If I focus for a moment, I don't even have to plug my ears to hear it.
It sounds, for me, like a very high pitched beep. That just sorta never stops. It's worse after I've listened to loud music or been ITC for a shift. I tend to notice it the worst when I have a headache. Especially a migraine - the damn noise just sorta makes me want to blow a hole in the side of my head.![]()

I have it bad too. Constant high pitched buzzing. And like in a bar or club, I can't hear anything. All speech just seems jumbuled. Like I know someone said something but can't understand what was said.
I can do better than you in a two bit fancy house
+1 for wind noise.
