What you might not realize, though I was trying to point it out in my previous reply, is that there is a parallel complex amongst the more short-sighted dancers. You could call it the Goddess Complex, I suppose, and it comes about for many of the same reasons that a lot of DJs get sucked in.
Look, I have never tried to say that all DJs are perfect, Christ no. I used to be way worse than HockeyBobby (no offense HB just sayin lol) or anyone else here, when I first joined SW and for maybe a couple years afterwards. I bashed DJs left and right, and posted that I thought there were very few exceptions to the rule (that they sucked).
But not all dancers are perfect--just as customers, bouncers, managers, and owners are often flawed. Probably the toughest part of my job has been dealing with a certain percentage of dancers who think the rules don't apply to them for any of a number of reasons--all boiling down to the goddess complex thing, basically.
The percentage varies, but it is probably about the same as with DJs, I bet. Only we DJs have to deal with anywhere from 12-70 or more dancers a night. So where a dancer might have to deal with a God-complex DJ several nights a week, we have to deal with 2-8 goddess complex dancers every night we work, and that's a low estimate. And all it takes is one goddess complex dancer on a rampage to ruin your night--especially if she is drunk, on drugs, and/or is blowing the manager or owner, or all four.
I am not saying that all dancers are like this, and certainly not that all SW dancers are like this. But they are sure out there, and they sure make things difficult, unless you have full and complete backing from management--and even then they will try to get you to break the rules for them every night! And will get all bent out of shape if you refuse. I could post about specific examples, but it would literally fill several volumes.
There are other things that make the DJs position a tough one, of course, but this is the one thing nobody realizes goes on. I tried to warn a new DJ about 8 months ago about it. He was hired for sundays and mondays, and had many years experience DJing in other kinds of clubs, shouldn't have been too bad. But his first sunday was Memorial Day. I told him he might want to wait until the next sunday as it would be very busy and a very, very tough night to start in a busy club like ours. I told the manager I thought it was a bad idea, and the manager said 'Well let's see what happens, if he hangs himself we'll deal with it, and he will learn.'
He was all 'OH I've got it down, Djoser! I am ready to go!! I can handle this!"
They ripped him to bloody shreds...

If we give you an idea of what we want when we start and ask for specific songs 10 min or so before hitting the stage, that's about as much as we can do to make your life easier.
