Default is it worth having lessons?

    hey

Im going to go and check out some clubs this week and finally audition.

I am useless at the pole and so thought about lessons. I have been looking into pole dance classes.. do you think this is worthwhile doing or a waste of time and money?

Anyone done any classes on pole dance?

    any info would be great

I am taking classes and are frustrated because they move everyone along soooooo slow, and charge a lot for the lessons when they don't teach all that many moves. Example: 3 spins in four lessons. That's too few-I could easily learn 9 spins in that time and master them.

However, frustration aside, I am learning and getting better at it and stronger. Plus, every studio is different. I would try to find a different studio, but this is the only one within an hours drive.

I would do it just to get some basics down, or even better-ASK a girl who is good at the pole to show you some moves during some downtime-even offer to pay if she refuses at first.

There are also online classes taught by Alena Downs and Nakita Cash. I never used them, but they look good. The thing is you need an at-home pole to do this route.

Hmmmm that sucks.. I spoke to someone at the course and they said that you learn 30 moves over a 6 week period, which seems like alot!

Is it easy enough to get going... not difficult to master the spins quickly? You seem to be doing it well.

Thats a good idea about asking a girl to maybe help me out and show me some moves.. if i get a job that is.

I dont have my own pole..wouldnt mind getting one but my place is way too small. x

I took one pole class and then bought a pole for my house ( I was too lazy to drive to the studio and wanted 24-7 pole access ) . But ....... to start stripping ........ you don't even need to do pole work. You can just wander around on stage and be sexy ( seriously ) .
Most of your money will come from selling lap dances, so to start making money fast, your need to get into the club and start selling those.

i don't think its worth it, since 90+% of money is made not on stage. And the 10% stage money isn't directly correlated with the amount of pole tricks you do anyway. its more smiling and customer interaction. so i say, save your money
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

imo: not likely to be worth it.
Most pole dance classes are pretty useless and spend lessons and lessons teaching you to do REALLY hacky moves you won't use on stage that just involved holding onto the pole.

BUT. If you can find a GOOD class. Probably worth it.

There's no reason to really have pole lessons right away. If you want to get ahead of the game though (especially with today's economy) you might want to look into http://www.stripandgrowrich.com/home.php which will help you learn how to sell to customers.

hey, thanks for all the replys. They do free taster lessons, which i might go to as obviously there is nothing to loose if i dont have to pay, right?

I know i will earn money from lap dances and not stage but i just wanted to feel a little more confident when i am up there.

All the girls are right-if you are just looking to make money fast, then NO the pole lessons are not worth it.

If you are trying to learn how to do pole tricks, then YES, the pole lessons are worth it.

I made hardly any $$ on stage-and I did spins and tricks. BUT, I enjoy the lessons, the make me feel sexy and pretty, and they helped tone me up more than lifting weights ever did.

I took pole dancing lessons from an ex-stripper and they made me feel much more confident on stage. Confidence is really important in this job, so I think they're helpful for that reason alone.

Plus, it's so much fun, and a great workout.

I'd try to find classes taught by someone who's actually been in the business. I recently went to a class taught by a lady who's never been a stripper, and it showed. Her moves were kind of cheesy and not sexy!

I just want to say (and she'll know what I mean), it's because sensual dancing and salsa are not the same thing! ::SIGH:: Their moves look too much like the MTV version of sexy... with salsa mixed in.

    1) New Girls BANK. Play up that shit. Go out there, be coy, etc. You will only be able to get that new girl sympathy cash for so long, so bank while you can. You've got easily a month at most mid-size clubs to collect this way.

    2) Lessons are probably not worth it per dollar/per hour unless you feel like it will benefit you due to confidence issues. Go early and stay late to practice. Enlist the help of a friendly girl whose style you'd like to emulate. This is FREE, therefore, less money you will feel the need to recoup.

    3) Be cautious of studios that advertise "x amount of moves." For example, the only studio that offers "pole dancing" in my city has ONE pole, for thirty women. The instructor teaches things like walking and dipping--which, in my opinion, should be the most individualized aspects of your stage performance because it is what you spend the most amount of time doing (esp as a newbie.) There are only so many ways you can dress up an inversion, but girls that move well always do well. You want to be memorable, not generic.

As was mentioned above, this is predominantly (with the exception of near extinct stage-only clubs) a sales/acting job. Your stage show merely attracts the money.

Above all, SMILE at people, even if you fall over in your heels. Effort exhausted per dollar made, this is the easiest and most likely profitable move you can make.

not worth it imo. just go, be sexy, and make money. you dont need major poles moves. I've been in this business for almost 2 years and still don't do major pole work.

This might usually be true, but it wasn't for me. My first couple nights at a new club tend to be kind of low for earnings averages ( I'm nuts about keeping close track ) . So ...... don't get discouraged if you don't feel like you did quite well enough. You might just be a slow starter like me and do better once you get comfy.

Yes, as a person who has taught pole lesson, I can tell you the shit is lame. It's mostly a bunch of women trying to empower themselves through pole dancing. Not all of them, just most of them. I learned everything I know from falling on my ass a few times.
As a newbie, fuck learning the pole. Guys will give you money, cause your new. You don't wanna get old fast, so just ignore that pole for now.

Actual pole dancing may not be worth it, depending on your area, but if you can get another dancer to teach you good stage moves it will be worth it.
Then again you can get the klutzy "new girl" type clients who love new girls. It all depends on where you're going to be dancing.

If it will set you apart in the club, do it.
If it won't don't waste your time unless it's something you WANT to do.

I took online lessons with Alena Downs. They were priceless!!! I now go to a gym, and it's over-priced for what I learn, and a long distance. In an hour session I learned one swing. ONE! That's because there were TOO many people lined up to learn something and we ran out of tine. Money would be better spent remodeling my new home so I can fit a pole in here and take from Alena again.
    I'm not who I say I am.
