    Default Moving...college.....can I??

When we move to the next duty station, there will not be Virginia College anymore, like here in Florida. I will be going to(or trying to) start RN school. I didnt graduate high school...even though I was there till the very last day of my senior year, I was pregnant and living on my own and didnt really focus on my school work, so my GPA was lower than it should have been. Like WAY lower than it shoulda been... I just didnt apply myself and I coulda had a 4.0 like I did in middle school/9th grade 10th grade I started screwing around.
So, when I got into Virginia College, I had to test in. I was originally going for something different, easier than LPN, but after the admissions guide saw my scores, she talked me to go into nursing. So I did. They didnt need high school transcripts or anything from back in the high school days. I just tested in and wrote an essay and had written recommendations from professional friends.
Sooo... when I move and am ready to go to RN school (I didnt finish LPN school, due to personal circumstances, and will not continue LPN, I plan to go direct to RN rather than wasting my time with LPN,since LPNs are bein phased out anyways)
So the question is, how do I get into school given my high school record?? I mean, Im not a failure. Ive grown a lot since then, Ive studied a lot, I apply myself now these days, and especially more since I quit dancing and really am trying to get my life together. I dont think all colleges will let ya just test in....
So do I give up my RN dreams?????
(and my writing/spelling skills are much better outside of Stripperweb. Here I type faster than I think.. and skip letters and dont even fix em...Im not always like that!)

It really depends on the admission policies of the college you will be applying to attend.

A lot of community colleges do not require a high school diploma. Getting into the RN program may be tougher though. It really just depends on that schools requirements. Did you successfully complete courses at Virginia College? Include that on your application, you will probably have to request a transcript be sent to your new college. If you have over a certain number of hours already successfully completed they may not require you take assessment tests.

Most colleges require transcripts from everywhere. I personally have transferred 5 colleges, and they 3 of the 5 required HS transcripts. The last 2 (Florida State and University of Colorado) did NOT require the HS transcripts, but wanted all the other colleges transcripts.

Check the admissions policies-you can always call the Admissions office of the colleges you are looking at and ask, and explain the situation. Most will work with you because they want your MONEY. You will probably have to jump through hoops and complete crappy beginner courses though.

On the plus side, many career training schools will let anyone in. Here in Colorado Springs, there is a school called Intellitech, and they will let anyone in and train you directly for your career.

I think the policies vary from school-to-school, but if you've been out of HS for 4 or 5 years, and you have transcripts from another, recent college then I doubt they'll ask for a highschool dipolma. At worst - your new school will require that you have a GED, which is what I ended up getting...pretty fast process, too.

I'd be more concerned about your school requiring a SAT or ACT. Best thing to do is just call and ask.

    Good luck!

It sounds like you test well....consider taking the GED. You pass and you have a High school equivelancy diploma. You never know when you are going to need it througout your life. Probably not a bad thing to have regardless of whether or not you need it for a specific college.
