    Default Chinese Symbols/Lettering

I'm looking to get a tattoo. My usual feeling about this is to not do it because no one, unless you speak the language, knows what it really says. However, lately, with what's been going on in my life, there is a symbol (or 2) I really want. Does anyone know a reliable source for this info on the internet? I did a google search. It's hard to know who to trust.

And please no opinions on the tat itself. That's not what Im looking for, and no I don't know anyone who actually speaks chinese.
Sorry I missed church. I was too busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian.

I would just go to a book store and look at the books that are for learning languages, like Rosetta stone but books. Those are normally very reliable. It's what I did for mine, and the Chinese teacher at my school said they are accurate Kanji.

I'd make some Chinese friends, or email the guy that owns Hanzi Smatter - he'd happily help.

I think I actually like the Japanese lettering better. Thanks!

Run it past a someone who knows definitely.

    A) Make sure your tattooist can reproduce it accurately. Subtle variations are different words.

    B) Make sure that the arrangement says what you want word for word translations backfire badly.

    C) make sure the word has the cultural connotations you want to convey. Lets take a common American slang, "foxy" for example. We would take this to mean beautiful, or sexy. In another culture it may well mean sly or thieving.

DO NOT pull your Chinese/Kanji tattoo off the internet or from a book! Not only is the wording context-dependent, but the actual execution of the lettering will convey a certain feel as well (just as in western font styles). Your best option is to have the letters hand written for you by a native speaker, most preferably an elderly one, as their calligraphic skills will be most refined. You must then take the letters and consult with a tattoo artist who is skilled at magnum shading, so he/she can render your letters most realistically as brushstrokes.

And where do I find such a person? That wouldn't mind some random person asking them to draw letters for them?

Not sure if you are looking for a Kanji character of an english word/phrase that you have already chosen, or if you are trying to corroborate a character that you have already selected.

We are here to help if you so desire, miss.

I would recommend a traditional Chinese tattoo artist
