    Default Blisters from pole

I'm new to dancing, and I know that eventually my body will get used to doing pole work. However, I am developing a nasty blister on my right (dominant) hand. Aside from wearing gloves, is there anything I can do for this? I'd hate to pop it, because rubbing a raw wound on the pole sounds pretty painful (not to mention an invitation for infection). Any ideas? Thanks

Maybe some liquid band aid and no pole work that requires a grip. Pretend the pole is a "peek-a-boo" pole and isn't actually anchored so you can't put weight on it. You can still walk around it, or hook your leg and dip backwards, or hook your leg and lean forward and show off ur butt. Do floorwork on your fingertips on that hand instead of putting the wound flat on the floor. Wash it after your stage set and after all dances. If it's slow, maybe you can strengthen your left hand. I was pretty much useless with my left hand at first, but with practice I'm getting better.
With any luck you should callus over after a day or so and then you won't feel it. then again... I never callused over at work. I did get blisters from a pole at the gym... they weren't as smooth. Does your pole kinda rub skin off? does it feel rough when you use it? If not, if it's completely smooth, you may want to try using a lighter grip so you don't hurt your hands. Hope this helps

My pole at work is smooth, I don't think that's where I'm getting the blister. I've been practicing more advanced stuff on my home pole, and it's bit rougher. A lighter grip is probably the key, I'm terrified of falling on my face so I hang on for dear life! The liquid bandaid is a great idea, thanks!

Learn to use your legs too. And also... I have the same fear. I actually steal a couch cushion and put it under me when I'm trying new tricks. And yes... I have fallen and landed on it. I haven't quite mastered being upside down.
