    Default Returning a Leased Car

So this is my first time turning in a leased car and I'm very nervous and confused about the whole thing. I was going to get the thing detailed and have a body shop fix up all of the scratches for $1500. Its very scratched up from parking in the city. I feel like the $1500 spent now will save me more money that the dealership would charge in the future? Although my ex claims he will pay for anything I owe on it so maybe I should just get it detailed and let the chips fall where they may with the scratches? I'm already 3,000 miles over.

If anyone has any experience with leased cars, I would love to hear about how returning it went.

First thing to do is read the 'small print' of your Agreement/Contract - and establish:

    a) What is acknowledged as normal 'wear and tear'

    b) What you are liable for with regards to maintenance/repairs

    - and

    c) What you are permitted to do outside these clauses.

You do not want to be hit for the cost of a full respray if you go ahead and do something outside the permitted maintenance agreement.

I just had my inspection done. A few dents and a few scratches I thought I was going to have to pay for, ended up being considered normal wear and tear. The final bill = $0. You'll have to pay for the extra mileage, but don't put a bunch of money into detailing it. Spend ten bucks on a carwash and vacuuming...that's it. Save your money.

    Mines goes back in 2-mths.

Most companies will offer to do a pre-inspection for you.

Mines sends out a template to measure scratches, minor dents etc as being usual wear & tear vs. small vs. large dent/scratches.

Each small is $200 and large is $400 for me.
