    Default dry hair miracle?

Well I used to bleach the crap out of my hair but then I made it brown(its naturally dark blonde), most of the length is really dry but very stringy when wet but the roots where it is just the brown arent stringy however they are dry too.. I dont understand this because I wear a shower cap evrytime I shower so I only wash my hair about twice a week I usually let it airdry and I try to avoid using heat (only for special occasions)and if I do then I use heat defense spray. On top of my normal conditioner I use a spray leave in one always. I dye my hair(roots a choclate brown) avoiding any already coloured hair about once every 5 weeks..I know that can be drying but half my friends dye their hair black and they have very nice shiny hair so whats wrong with me..is it a nutrition thing? Does anyone know of any amazing products that reallly help dry hair and I dont mean drugstore stuff as ive used them all and coconut oil isnt so great anymore.

Also I am trying to grow the damged bleached stringy hair out but I have coloured it brown and now it has faded and really it needs going over but would it all just fall off if I put dye over it now?

I have really long natural, blonde hair. While I don't do anything to it in particular, I do make a lot of effort to try to prevent damage.

Have you tried hair moisturizing lotions? They're similar to body lotions, except for your hair. It might help you rehydrate your hair. Fructis has a pretty good one. You can buy it in any grocery stores.

On the other hand, it also sounds like you've over saturated your hair with dyes. It probably needs some time to recover. :c

Leave off dying it until it recovers.

Go to a salon and get a hot oil treatment done - they're not too expensive.

I actually use Oil of Olay beauty fluid (for skin) on my hair. I use a pea sized blob and massage it into my hair when it's wet. It makes it soft and moisturized.

Thank you for the suggestions! The pureology has very good reviews, whatw will help with the stringy-ness( not a word i know) is it because my hair doesnt have protein?

I know my hair cant recover from the bleach I can only grow it all out but I know that will be monthes and the colour isnt very nice(patchy/faded) is there anything else I can do about it?

I've heard that you can get protein treatments at beauty supply shops for damaged hair. Never tried it but I've heard positive reviews from other people.

I've had the same problem with my hair in the past...I ended up just saying "fuck it" and cutting it all off. Now I'm scared to bleach my hair ever again!

I had to stop dyeing my hair a little over a year ago because it was so badly damaged and dried out. I switched to Lush Henna and it's made a huge difference. You can use it on chemically treated hair and they do have a brown shade.

^ Henna is much less damaging to your hair, so try using that instead of boxed dye (boxed dyes usually have some type of 'lift' to them, regardless of how dark they are. You really only need to deposit color).

Also http://www.sallybeauty.com/hair-repa...html?cgid=Hair these work great for my bleached hair. Use them whenever you wash, and it will start to heal your hair a little (it has protein in it too). They're fairly inexpensive right now in the stores - I got some yesterday for 99 cents each; also, I have long hair and only use about half the packet at a time.

http://www.sallybeauty.com/Condition...html?cgid=Hair These work really well too. I put one in my hair about once a month.

Then http://www.redken.com/products/hairc...-cat-treatment This is great for SUPER dry damaged hair. I leave it in my hair a little longer than recommended, becasue I feel my hair takes a while to absorb, then rinse. I think you can get it at Target?

Damaged hair is so damned expensive. Hope I helped!

BTW, I felt like extra virgin olive oil was MUCH more thick and moisturizing than the Coconut Oil, which was more thin and greasy, if that makes sense. I would sleep with olive oil in my hair, then shampoo out in the morning. Sometimes I would put a TINY bit (like a dime size amount) through my ends after I got out of the shower, and would leave it in. You can't really tell it's there once you blow dry and style, but it makes a HUGE difference in the softness of your hair, like your ends won't be crispy and crunchy.

Kiehl's makes an olive-based hair shampoo and conditioner. I have extremely healthy and soft hair, but I used a sample of this stuff that they gave me and the difference it made was like WHOA. I'd never felt my hair that soft!

Im scared to use henna i have read bad things on it and on the back of alot of dye products says 'can not be used with henna' what is lush henna though is that different to normal henna do they sell it in england?

aw thank you I will check all those out but I live in England so will have to check they sell them here, we do have a sallys here but not sure if its the same products. Also the first one looks really good as it says it has protein and it restores moisture however looking at the ingredients it contains alot of alcohol I always assumed alcohol in products (other than drinking lol) is a bad thing?

I feel like when I put coconut oil on and let it dry my hair goes all crispy and Ill leave it on all night then when I wash it out my hair isnt even any softer but Ill give olive oil a go, its cheaper too.

Go to www.lush.com and then just choose the UK site. I have never used regular henna because I was told by a hairdresser that it
    1. Can't be used on chemically treated hair and
    2. Won't cover gray

I tried the Lush kind out of desperation because I heard that it was safe for chemically treated hair. It comes in a brick and it's mixed with cocoa butter and some other stuff.

The only problem is that if you don't like the color and then try to dye over it, you can actually intensify the henna effect. So if you used the red kind and went "ack, too red!" and tried to dye it brown with chemical dye, it might end up even redder. (Don't quote me on that, I'm not an expert and someone on here probably knows more about it than I do. I'm going by what they told me at the store and what my hairdresser told me.)

I used the caca marron lush on my mom and it turned her mousy brown hair a rich chestnut color although I've heard it turns some people's hair auburn. They have a caca brun too which is just regular brown.

I hope you find something that works whatever you decide. I had so many hair and skin problems before I discovered Lush and now I'm a total addict. I find myself pimping their products to everyone because they've done soooo much for me.

I have alot of lush shops near me I like the shop because its the only shop you can smell from far away lol I love there bath bombs that make the water all pink and sparkly! I will consider using that henna as a last resort as it makes me nervous what you said about the colour thing as if it was the wrong colour Id be in a worse position than now. Thanks for telling me about it

I have super dry bleached hair. The only thing that saves it is Bio silk oil worked through my hair after washing. And once a month I deep condition with Cholesterol(you can find it CHEAP in the ethnic hair section). I wet and saturate my hair with it, wrap it in saran wrap and a hot towel and leave it in for like an hr, then wash it out. Works wonders.

my grandma gave me this stuff that helps your hair repair and grow! and it really works! I mean its kinda expensive but, its worth it. its Ovation cell therapy rinse. I didnt get the shampoo or conditioner just the rinse. its about $50, but it last a long time. just used a little on the roots of your hair. and you only have to use it twice a week, It really helps! google it ovation cell therapy good luck!! ( this is what I used when I MELTED all my hair off with a relaxer)

Bio silk oil... is that for hair? The only bio oil Ive seen over here is for stretch marks...
I havent found any of the products mentioned here(apart from redken) so far sold in the UK yet

I was having a look online and I have found 'Aphogee Two Step Protein Treatment' It has really good reviews for that and the moisturiser I think you have to use them together so I am going to buy both, Im hopeful though because of the reviews if anyone else has really damaged hair(I mean stringy/mushy hair not dry hair as protein wont help with that) they could try it too

    http://www.makeupalley.com/product/s...e_/Treatments/

But Im also scared to use it because im sure it will help my hair from being stringy but might make my hair more dry god hair is complicated

Joico moisture recovery shampoo and conditioners coupled with k-pack(also joico) reconstuctor once. Every two weeks. I also just started using k-pack split end mender(it works! It works!) And k-pack color therapy Restorative styling oil. They are great products, I swear by them, and I have been bleaching my hair from black to pale blonde for over ten years now. The restorative oil is my fave right now, its very hard to make bleached hair shine; this stuff does! 2 of these products are only found in salons, but you really shouldn't buy proffessional products anywhere but a salon, so if you decide to go this route, you should buy all these products at a salon. Never buy professional products at drug or discount stores. They are not guaranteed, and most of the time they are either watered down, or not the same product. Only buy from salons. Black market products are bad news..... sorry, end rant, lol.

And yes, my hair looks and feels like a million bucks.

I didn't think coconut oil was all that on my hair either. Olive oil is good. Castor oil is even thicker, and good, I like avocado oil and jojoba oil too. Avocado probably being my fave.

The deal with henna is that you should NEVER dye over henna with ANYTHING BUT HENNA.

Using a chemical dye over henna hairdye can make your hair sizzle and smoke. Seriously. However, henna hairdye is a lot easier on your hair than chemical dye - as stated above, just go to your local Lush store to buy it.

Yes bio silk oil is for hair. Theres a whole line...shampoo,cond...and the oil. Works great and lasts forever since you only use a tiny bit.

Hmm I'm not sure I'm willing to make that commitment to henna lol

While Ive been reaseraching dry hair lol Ive found out apparently olive oil (any type of oil so that inc coconut oil) doesnt actually moisturise the hair (if youre interested why not I can find it again i just cant be bothered right this second) it just keeps moisture in the hair so you need to use a moisturising conditioner or something for adding moisture back in your hair and then use the olive oil as a 'sealant' to keep the moisture from falling out of pourous hair so you could try that

Why don't you try Kerastace.com? They're worldwide, & can tell you if it's sold in a nearby salon. Ebay has it too. Recommended to me by my hairdresser, (the one I stopped going to b/c too expensive). They have a deep conditioner for very dry hair that rocks, as well as many other products.
    Pureology is excellent also.

I don't have an issue with that because I use the products I mentioned in my first post.
