I just started back up at a gym last week. I got rid of my gym membership a year and a half ago to save money. My workout routine had been using the fitness center at school, taking fitness classes at school and walking/jogging/biking/hiking at home everyday.
It appears I've been a little too slovenly over the winter. I am tired and sore and weak. One workout takes me a full 7 days to recover from. I did yoga last night, and it was the easy class, and my core is sore and stiff this morning.
It is amazing how fast my fitness level can decline. I have been walking about 90 minutes a day every day at a brisk pace. I have to, I have a very active dog and if she doesn't get a couple of walks a day she finds other ways to expend her energy-usually chewing my shoes.
I've also moved away from eating meat. I won't call myself vegetarian because I do still eat it on occasion, but only a couple of times a month. Most of my protein comes from vegetable sources and eggs. I think maybe this may be the source of long recovery time from a workout.
So I'm thinking that maybe I'm missing something from my diet aside from protein. I do make sure I eat a decent amount of protein from tofu, beans and legumes, eggs and dairy. I also will have a whey protein shake several times a week. Do I also need to take an amino acid supplement? I'm afraid that my slow recovery after exercise may have to do with nutrition.
Or maybe I'm just getting old.![]()

I would eat four meals a day personally. I make a bangin' avocado, mushroom and cheese omelet, and soft boiled eggs with toast and fruit are good too. Eggs are awesome for me because other than that, I hate breakfast food. I don't have a taste for sugar.
