Default NYC Makeup Artist (for dancers) Question

I recently took some courses to become a professional makeup artist. While I'm trying to get a cosmetic retail job, I figured I could go to some of the clubs in the metro area and see if I could do makeup for dancers. I know in Miami, sometimes the housemom or dad have people come in, and other places, they just have supplies. I know that some upscale places as well as ghetto clubs also bring in MUA. I was wondering if this is something they do up in nyc, and where to start! Should I do the upscale route and approach ricky's caberet and penthouse executive club or should I attempt to go to sin city and clubs like that? I have a portfolio and website and I have a full makeup kit...

any and all advice is appreciated.

I will try and do this without spamming but you can make over $100,000 on your own selling makeup. Imagine a spray you can put on your face that holds your makeup in place all day. You can be on the runway, pole, lap or the dance floor. It has been used under another name on stage in Vegas and on Project Runway. There is even gluten free makeup for people who are allergic. This is a real business not some MLM like Avon. Contact me if you are interested.

    Bella,
I used to do exactly what you are talking about. I worked for MAC for 5yrs and did makeup at a club at night the last 2 years. I made good money (not as much as a dancer but for a MUA it was great) Then I got tempted to try dancing and never looked back lol!

This is unrelated, but do you have a modelmayhem portfolio? They have portfolios just for makeup artists. MM is a great way to start building contacts and make a little bit of money doing test shoots, portfolio shoots, headshots, etc...and since you're in NYC, land of the aspiring supermodel, you should have no problem finding models and photographers who need MUAs. Plus, if you ever travel to visit friends or family in other cities, you can post travel notices on your MM and pull in some sidework that way.

Bella - working at a high-end club as a MUA involves doing great make-up jobs quickly, so experience is necessary. I don't think people usually get hired by walking in, I think its more about who you know. There are tons of other opportunities in the NYC area though to get that experience and make those contacts.
