Default Do you lie to staff and co-workers of your real life outside the club?

I lie, not alot, but enough that I could never really be friends with anyone at my club. I lie to the DJs, bouncers, floor hosts, managers, and other dancers/waitresses. I lie about my boyfriend ("Oh, he's just a hookup really"), where I live, my lifestyle (I exaggerate my social life so people won't know I go to school full-time at a private college), and just about everything.

My whole life is a lie. My boyfriend's possessive, scary sister works at a local bar where alot of the bouncers and drivers go, and if I get too friendly with them, they could tell her... and she could be pissed enough to ruin alot of things in my life. Like my relationship and job.

Do you lie at work about your real life? How do you deal with living a double life like this? I love stripping, but sometimes it takes a toll to keep it so hidden from my other, more public life as a student and "nice girl."

There's nothing wrong with keeping your personal life separate from the job. In fact, it's the best way to go. In the same way that it's usually better to keep stripping from people in your personal life, you can also avoid drama by not letting your stripping colleagues know too much about you.

I even have a fake 'real' name for stripping, so if someone calls me xxxxxx i know that they know me from the club and i instantly know what identity to call on.

Not really, but there are certain details about my personal life that I don't share with people at work because it isn't necessary. Plus, I notice they treat me different when they know than when they do not, and I prefer how they treat me when they don't know. I also don't really talk about my personal life in general much with dancers at the club. Normally if people know much about my personal life it's because they've roomed with me and I really can't avoid them knowing almost everything.

Well why do people have to know all your business? Even at my day time job, I don't tell people everything or the truth. Not because of a scary sister but just because it's my life and non of their business.

Yes, but I didn't really think of it as lying, but as trying out new material.

Well I would say that is pretty smart and if you feel comfortable doing it, then keep doing it. I don't lie, I just don't have the energy to keep up the charade with the staff. I don't care or feel uncomfortable with them knowing I'm married, have kids, etc. But thats just me and I wouldn't care if a girl I worked with was telling me the "truth" about her life or whatever. I don't just go around asking about personal details of strangers anyway. If you feel better giving a different story, do it. I would get rid of the possessive BF however.

You know what is funny about this? I actually tell customers more than what I tell co-workers. Odd, I know.

Oh, totally. There are only 3 girls in my club who know my real name. It isn't their business anyway.

Don't worry, you're not there to make friends girl.

I tell different lies to different people because what I do outside the club is none of their bizwax.

i don't lie and when i'm friendly with girls and talk with them, it's about very shallow, non-personal things...but i'm the same at my other jobs. i guess i'm just not the type of person that talks about my life unless it's with a good friend. my 'friendships' with pretty much all the dancers is very fake...i'm a completely different person otc as far as personality goes...the bouncers, djs, managers know even less.

Personal affairs and business do not mix. It's a non-subject for me. Unless it's about business in the club or other types of business then sure.

I'm also worried about this- I'm just starting, and told the manager already I'm not telling the girls my real name so they don't call me it, if the girls ask, I'll give a "fake real name" as another mentioned. Problem is, I'm just not a fake person-I don't plan on having another persona, I plan on just being me-which I know could be a good thing..but it could be bad also. I do plan however on telling fake details on where I'm from, what I do etc..but I know most dancers have a different personality for dancing to separate real life from working..is it a bad thing that I'm not going to?

I used to, but the club I work at now is extremely close-knit. The bouncers and staff have been there forever and not many dancers have been there longer than me (which is crazy because I've been there less than a year). But now I am pretty honest with them all about everything. I trust them now that I know them well.

It has depending on the club. There have been a few people I became friends with outside the club (dancers, DJ's, bouncers, etc) so they might know my personal info. Otherwise, I don't tell the others anything about me. I don't tell them my real name, where I live, or anything else. For the most part I have always kept dancing separate from my private life because in my private life I am nothing like a stereotypical stripper and so many would never understand.
