I am looking to make contact with any dancers who might be willing to take part in an independent documentary about stripping. This will be audio only! Specifically I'm looking at issues of exploitation, feelings about our own bodies, and questions of feminism and empowerment in the industry. I'm not exactly coming from a women's studies background, but I have taken some courses and I'd like to explore the relationship that women who work in the sex industry
Questions I'll be asking will be along the lines of:
How would you define feminism?
Do you think feminism has a place in the stripping industry?
Do you consider yourself a feminist? Why or why not?
How and why did you get into stripping?
How do you feel about your own body and your own sexuality? Do you feel differently about your body when you are at home than when you are at work?
I'd like the interviews to be fairly casual, and of course full confidentiality will be guaranteed. If there are any questions you don't feel comfortable answering, you won't be asked, but any answers would be appreciated. I don't need your real names or where you work. If anyone doesn't consent to having their voice recorded, we can do the interview by email and have it read by someone else on tape.
I am a dancer too -- dancing to pay off my bachelors degree and subsidize my current job in public radio (which does not pay so well). I identify first and foremost a dancer, not a sociologist or a scholar or even a journalist. I like the job and am not just dancing to get credibility for some masters thesis. I'm 25 years old, I've been dancing in Toronto for two years, I hope this will be more of a conversation between peers than a clinical interview.
To finish -- I'm looking for a large variety of women from different backgrounds, ages, levels of education, whatever. So if you don't know anything about feminism or haven't really thought about it -- that's even more reason why I want to hear from you!
If any dancers from other cities would like to help me, please contact me as well. Phone interviews can be done, but the sound quality is better if it's in the same city ;-)
Thank you all for reading this! I hope you think about taking part! you can contact me through stripperweb PM or email: [email protected]!
Yours truly,
Lucky
