I'm torn on this one. No one owns a song ('cept the artist), and another dancer may love that song too. It's no more 'fair' that you get to claim a song than it is for another dancer to steal it.

Mind you, that really applies to more mainstream music that everyone knows; if you go out of your way to hunt down some alternative techno/grunge song you KNOW for a fact no ones every hear of, then I could see you laying claim to it.

    Gah it is sooo annoying!!
I thought I was the only one who complained about this. I created lists of music I danced to especially. Certain songs were "mine" and I'd ask the DJ only to play them for me (I brought in the CDs often). I dance to certain types of music (alternative and classic rock) and would be livid when this happened. Granted some of these songs were popular mainstream hits, but still, if I ask it to be only played for me, and another dancer wants it, the DJ should ask.

Yeah I dealt with it often. It was one of those things...if the DJ doesn't even know it (which he didn't) and I'm tipping the DJ very well...then why the hell is he playing it for another girl just cuz she is new and asked for it?

I've never understood it either. I remember at several clubs the DJ not only would play "my" songs for new dancers, he'd use my CD! I was livid and would tell the manager (or not tip the DJ). Some of the songs were well known in the alternative genre, but still if he knows it's my music, why play it for them?

I'm gonna have to continue this tangent w/ a few words...

At my last club, every girl had a "folder" on the DJ's computer that had "her" songs that supposedly no one else could dance to.

This created a lot of unnecessary, stupid drama where girls would scramble to have every new hit song that came out put into "their" folder and not someone else's, would fight over who "brought the song in first" on a CD, where girls would "share" their songs only w/ their friends in the club but not w/ dancers they weren't friends with, where dancers would aggressively yell at/ get in newbies' faces when the DJ would play the newbie someone else's song, even if the newbie didn't know that was anyone's song and didn't even ASK for it to be played cuz they're fucking NEW and have no idea what they really wanna dance to anyway... oh god, and that weekend where everyone's folders accidentally got deleted??!! CHAOS!!

I really, really like that we don't have that system at the club I work at now. It's jukebox during the day (pick whatever the hell you wanna dance to and fuck what anyone else says), and at night you tell the DJ your genre(s) and he plays you some shit from it. No muss, no fuss, less drunken yelling!

Really it's like saying that no 2 dancers at any given club should be allowed to wear the same dress, even on different nights. Cuz I guarantee you that anything I buy at the local dancewear shop, some other girl already has, or has a version of it.

I get that, especially when it comes to "hit" songs. The thing is in my case, I'd danced to some obscure songs. Sure, I danced to some more popular songs, but even so, these tended to be older songs. My major problem was that the DJ was playing my music (I brought in CDs, this is before iPods were around) for other girls because in most cases there's no way otherwise they'd know most of these songs. At one club I worked at, the DJ would ask the dancer if he could play "her" song for someone else. At one club I danced at I was usually the only one to dance to Duran Duran (most of the other dancers danced to hip hop). A new dancer also loved them and asked me if she could dance to them (I had no problem with this). Another dancer at another club asked if she could dance to God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols (my CD). I had no problem. However later on the DJ played Oblivious by Aztec Camera for a dancer and that was my CD and I never gave permission.

There's a girl in my club, she's sketty and gross, is very very skinny (coz of the drugs) and is 10 weeks pregnant (she was pushing her tummy out all night trying to get sympathy dances or something and then once she was back in the changing room somehow miraculously managed to suck in back in!! Amazing!! But thats a separate story altogether!) She is CONTINUOUSLY poling to other peoples songs, we dont have particularly named songs that people own, but some girls have brought A song in specifically and no-one else in the club dances too it, she will request these songs to dance to and it's sssoooo annoying coz she doesnt dance very well and rubs her twinkle up and down the pole (i disinfect it before i go on it after she has!)

Its only polite to ask another girl if u can dance to her song, especially if its something completely out of the clubs genre (ie we re an r'n'b club, and these songs are 80's rock etc!) I swear she does it on purpose just to be irritating! Although it is funny when girls go up two songs later, ask for their song which she's just danced to and absolutly blow it away! Then everyone kinda looks at her and smirks! (I sound cruel but she's awful, constantly trying to skive, Body odour, stinky pussy, is a dirty dancer, steals customers, tries to poach regulars, wears awful outfits, this is all besides the drugs/alcohol etc...)

^^^One of our Dj's also had a nasty habit of ripping the songs onto his computer from others girls cds, songs he didn't even know. So that way he could technically play them for other girls by saying "I have it in my computer" Thankfully he never went that far with mine. He did manage to put them on his computer but he never played them for other girls. Cuz my boss was very particular on music matching with girls and those few songs were mine completely. From CombiChrist. My boss loved it.

Also wearing the same outfit the same night as another girl is tacky anyways, so not only is it a no-no for a newbie or anyone really, its just plain dumb looking unless its intentional.

Yeh, I see what you mean.
I guess I just get annoyed when I hear girls argue over every damn Gucci Man(e) single that drops, or that Tic Tok song by Khia or Bedrock by Young Money... I just feel like yelling, "you're not the only one who thought of dancing to that song that comes on the radio every 5 minutes and gets played at every other club 10 times a night!"

Like girls will CALL the club so that a new hit they just heard can be put into their folder, and raise HELL when that song from their folder is played for someone who is working while they are NOT there or on VACATION! As if all the customers are gonna be like "OMGZZ 'WASTED' IS DIAMOND'S SONG WHATS THIS OTHER GIRL DOING DANCING TO IT LET'S ALL LEAVE AND NEVAR COME BACK!!1"

Totally bananas. Everyone I worked with at that club hated my music. Haha.

I am old because I don't even know those songs, but I get what you mean. No, if it's a popular song then anyone should be allowed to listen to it. What I used to do was listen to the local alternative station and see if I heard a song I liked. If I did, I'd go to the store and buy the CD. For me this worked because in the majority of the clubs I worked in the dancers either liked hip hop or sometimes country. Some dancers liked classic rock (I dance to a few of these songs) but for the most part I was the only one dancing to alternative.

The song selection thing drives me crazy.
I dance to a lot of old dancehall, reggae and obscure rap.
Oh I love your set blah blah blah. Whose it by... Then what happens... they steal my entire set.

Ive had girls come up to me and say hey youre on right now, its your song... and then lo and behold its the new bitch.......

Im a bitch about my music. I pick songs that remind me of good times, shows Ive been to, old love songs. Dont steal my shit because it sounds good. I work hard at picking my sets, they mean a lot to me.
If you want the same artists I dont care, but not the SAME DAMN SONG!

Oh, I've got one. This has been irking me lately.

If you are supposed to be on stage after me, get on the stage when you are supposed to be there. I'm not allowed to leave the stage until the next girl is up and it pisses me off when I get stuck up there way longer than I'm supposed to be.

Oh, and this is disgusting, but flush the damn toilet and don't piss all over the seat. I'm assuming the lovely ladies on here don't have problems doing these things but I'm gonna punch a drunk bitch the next time I find a floater.

I could be PMSing, forgive me.

Agree with both. I hated when the next dancer wasn't ready because that meant I waited (and I likely had a dance waiting for me). The toilet one seemed to be a problem at many places I've worked, strip club or corporate job. I have a weak stomach and this would make me sick. Speaking of which, at one club there was this dancer there that would use the toilet and keep the door open. Maybe it's me, but if you have to use the bathroom close the door!

^^^ The first place I ever worked at had the toilet in the dressing room. The place had such a problem with coke that they didn't even have the door on the toilet!

i worked at one of these places. i hated it! it made me feel like i was in prison!

also, i dont really think you can claim songs. the only exception is if you have been working at the club for a looong time and have seniority AND its a song that you specifically brought in that wasnt their before.

otherwise, its fair game. especially in a large club, no doubt two girls will have the same taste in music.

the worst is when a girl tries to claim a song like 'closer' by NIN. Like, Really, come on. you cannot declare that to be your song!
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

    I agree - you don't own a song.

Also, I have a gown I wear all the time. Well some other girl went out an bought the same gown. I don't really give a damn, but then she got all offended when I wore mine (duh - I wear it all the time), and her little friend said something to her about "Don't worry, you look better in it". The whole thing was just stupid. If you think you costume or music defines who you are... it doesn't. Fighting over it is just silly. Do you think I changed outfits? Hell no! She was the one who bought the same outfit that I already owned... she had to deal with it.

This club had toilets with stalls and doors. This particular dancer was just a slob. She'd also go up to random dancers and steal their food.

Not to hijack the thread, but this comment really took me back to this one club I worked at many years ago. It was when this was a new song (1994) and everyone wanted to dance to this song. I have many great memories of this club, including meeting the one I love who may or may not love me. I should have gotten serious with him then instead of just being friends. I miss that club because it was such a great club to make money with no contact. I miss the 90's.

Well, I had brought it in on a CD, and they saved it in the computer as "Ashton's song", and this girl still tried to dance to it. I wouldn't have cared otherwise, but I went through the trouble to burn it and bring it into work so.....

I don't really give a damn, but then she got all offended when I wore mine (duh - I wear it all the time), and her little friend said something about to her about "Don't worry, you look better in it". The whole thing was just stupid. If you think you costume or music defines who you are... it doesn't. Fighting over it is just silly. Do you think I changed outfits? Hell no! She was the one who bought the same outfit that I already owned... she had to deal with it.
A girl did this EXACT same thing to me, with the dress. It pissed me off! I usually am totally oblivious to the other girls at work, but guys kept getting confused and making comments about it to me, and it was really a huge distraction, especially since there was only around 10 or 15 dancers working that night, I just think the polite thing to do would be for her to change, since I was there wearing it first. If I came into work, and she was wearing that dress, I would wear something different.

You can say that again.. not just on here but men in general. Guys are so damn lame, the only way they can halfway make up for it is by opening their wallets.

How about this one? There is a girl at my club with really bright dreads in her hair. It is her signature look and she is a model and well known with it. A new girl went out and got the same exact hair, in the same exact colors and even went as far as to ask the original girl how to take care of it. Customers were mixing them up, and original girl has a ton of regulars and is a huge money maker. I could not believe it. I was in a state of shock.

    wow...thats low....
