I've been dancing now for 5 years or so and never before have I come across clubs that refuse to play songs that a dancer requests while she's on stage. My club insists on "upbeat" music only. Nothing slow.
A while back, I once read a review that customers enjoyed the music at one club because they played a VARIETY. I once had to sit with a customer for at least half an hour for a slower song to be played just to do a lap dance because the DJ played nothing but rock.
The reason for "upbeat" music is they don't want to slow the club down or have customers falling asleep. This is oxy moron. If a person has had too much to drink or has been up 48 hours or so, they're bound to crash no matter what kind of music is being played. Customers complain all the time about the upbeat music and say they want to hear something slow from time to time especially during lap dances.
If that's not enough, the owner of another club doesn't want any old songs being played. What about customers who tip $100 or more when a girl is dancing to an old song that just happens to be a favorite of the customer???? Needless to say, business has not increased for that club at all. The song selection should be up to the one who is on the stage performing to it.
The economy has made this business hard enough. The last thing we need is to have someone dictate what we can dance to.
