Yeah. I saw this on the BBC News yesterday. They only examined one or two types of pill - and the survey was done over a period of 39 years. They have no real conclusions about modern oral contraceptives. Just those being prescribed around the early Sixties.
They do claim though - that it could help prevent certain types of cancer, heart disease and strokes.

Hmmm that's very interesting. ^^^Good points. Either way I'm glad I'm on the pill... evens my moods out, makes my periods lighter, prevents pregnancy for the most part, and now maybe I'll live longer.
This is a little off subject but I've been on the pill for over 1 year and was having sex with my boyfriend at the time but the other day some like 50 year old lady I was working with claimed that you have to wait 3 months for the pill to be totally effective and you need to use a condom or something else until then. When I went to the doctor they said to wait 2 weeks and to use a condom until then. I did as the doctor said and I have not gotten pregnant. But that lady was like "I've been on the pill for 13 years, I think I would know."
Egh I don't trust this study very much. They really didn't do anything to account for other factors; particularly that women with certain conditions, like blood clots or kidney disease or have a risk of certain cancers, aren't eligible for birth control, so that weeded out women that would have potentially driven down this effect.
I think that's just because to be eligible for birth control, you have to be more healthy than some, so of course you'd live longer.
I was told that if you start the same day as your period, you're fully protected after a week.

Get the fuck off my harbl, yo'.
It probably has more to do with women on the pill have to see their Dr. annually to continue their Rx. Anyone who sees a Dr. regularly will have a better chance of living longer than someone that rarely/never goes to the Dr. for check-ups.
This is the main explanation why women outlive men, women see their Dr.s annually whereas men usually put off going to the Dr. for years.

I don't always trust these articles because sometimes I think they are used to get more women on the pill (or medication in general). In general I've never believed in the pill because I don't like the idea of messing with body chemistry. Even if I could take it (I never could due to migraines) I don't think I would because the idea of long term medication really bothers me.
