Default Has anyone here suffered from anxiety?

Sometimes I feel like my negative anxious thoughts will never go away and I get so upset over having them and the effort it is to change!! And other days I feel on top of the world, confident, outgoing, funny, pretty, smart...etc...

(not bipolar or any other mental illness, just social anxiety)

So has anyone here ever had SA, and how was it overcome?
    Thanks

Oh my girl. I have the same exact problem! i have no bipolar problems or depression either. I don't know why it happens to me too.

The days I do feel very nervous and not sure, i keep telling myself i need to be an actress. a hollywood actress.lol . It helps a bit.

But i do know what exactly u mean. On some days, i feel like im on top of the games and in control

Same here! But I do have a disorder- regardless, it's the anxiety that gets me more than anything else- the other night I wasn't really on my game until an hour or 2 into the shift (we have 6-7 hr shifts) after I met asshole #1 of the night, I remembered that these guys are here to objectify women, and hell I'll be damned if they walk out with all their money :-D

I get the feeling that there are more people online who suffer from anxiety than those who don't.

You just learn, eventually, to adapt (emotionally, medically, physically). I don't say it ever goes away for most people.

I have terrible anxiety. Sometimes I just work through it, and sometimes I few drinks to try and tame it. I'm also a very shy person naturally.

I do. The biggest problem seems to be "mood funks" that last and last AND I get really nervous sometimes when trying to fall asleep ( which keeps me up ..... I do nyquil probably once a week ) .

I've actually been on an antidepressant for a few years now, I don't advocate drug use or pharmaceuticals but for me personally, the anti-d has helped tremendously. Depression and anxiety tend to be taboo subjects, if you want to talk privately you are welcome to pm me. I can tell you honestly that I've been diagnosed with post partum depression and mild anxiety, the depression never really went away..the antidepressant took the edge off my temper and worrying.

Eating right, sleeping enough, and exercise are really important too. Not just dancing exercise..try to find something you enjoy doing like skiing or swimming.

It helps to mark on a calendar or keep a journal..I am too lazy to write in a journal but started marking on a calendar when I had bad and good days..there was a bit of a pattern based on how much rest I'd been getting. If anything, the calendar will reveal to you that not every day is shitty and there are natural ups and downs. It takes a constant effort ..its not easy

I used to have it VERY bad, now rarely and never so bad. I just managed to grow out of it by forcing myself into the kinds of situations that scared me to death. Stripping was a major turning point in that.

i have RIDICULOUS social anxiety...and i find it to be a really bad version of social anxiety.

i've always been one of the boys, and then working in a strip club and then escorting i have no trouble around guys, i fit right in.

but other females absolutely scare the beejezus out of me. i would love to have female friends but they all think i'm a bitch because i'm too damn nervous to think of anything to say, or, when i just automatically fall into the group of guys as usual, they all think i want to sleep with their boyfriends.

it's frustrating and the only way i can get around it is to self-medicate (reefers.) say what you will about it, but i have been on many different anxiety medicines, anti-depressants, etc...and the only thing that made any sort of difference was reefer. it even helped me overcome anorexia.

but....not everyone wants to do that, and i still don't have any close female friends so i dunno dude.

Wow ... I'm amazed to see how many other gals in the industry have anxiety too. I *use* to have it really bad years ago. One time I tried Xanax 1/2 mg as a preventative and I had a total blackout ... I did NOT drink, just took 1 pill. I woke up the next day not even knowing where I was ... scary stuff! What helped me was yoga ... not sure how or why but thankful that it did ... and still does. Once in a while I will feel anxious at work. When this happens, I take long deep breaths in the dressing room (get into that space that I experience when I do yoga), hold my head up high and smile, go out on the floor and forge forward ... this all may sound corny but it works really well for me.

BTW, anxiety attacks would only happen at work ... although I am hyper-sensitive to noise when I'm not working but I'm a loner/recluse by nature. When I'm out on a day off running errands all that outside stimuli noise really gets to me and I just want to get home as quickly as possible where it's quiet ... screaming kids push me over the edge ... LOL ... hell, that happens at the pool sometimes when I'm trying to enjoy the sun and quiet time

I can totaly relate to the rest of you ladies!!

I have anxiety disorder and sometimes have scary panic attacks that lead me to hyperventalate and start to black out! I take meds that keep the edge off, but it is still there...

I find that one of the best ways to control it is to eat well. By that I mean NO SUGAR, lots of healthy protien and no white carbs. This keeps my blood sugar stable and helps keep the panic attacks at bay. Also, caffine makes it WAY worse, even one soda can make my anxiety bad. Just some ideas! Good luck to everyone, i know how hard this is to deal with, especially is such a competititve job :p

Shit. I live on caffeine and fruit sugars. Well, that explains my panic attacks getting worse lately.

Fruit sugar isn't so bad as long as your eating the whole fruit. White sugar is your enemy and fruit juice can be bad b/c it's so concentrated.

I can't drink a cup of coffee anymore without feeling like I did a line of coke. It makes me clam up.

As far as social anxiety, I get it a little. I'm also shy and redheaded so I blush really easily. It's embarrassing. I've felt a few panic attacks come on in the past year but was able to ward them off with yogic breathing like someone mentioned above. They've never been an issue to me. The only full blown panic attacks I've had have been drug induced and I don't mess with any of that anymore.

I've had a debilitating anxiety disorder since I was younger than school age. It flairs up from time to time. When it gets bad enough, I can't even go out to do things like get groceries. It's usually okay in the summer though, so I'm looking forward to that.

Wonderful to know yoga is working for you too NM! This can NOT be a coincidence that yoga has/is working for both of us w/ anxiety. And who knows how many other people that suffer from anxiety find relief via yoga. Yoga breathing definitely helps me at work ... actually it helps me in any type of stressful situation.

Personally I don't go to yoga studios because I prefer to be at home in my quiet space to practice yoga. For others, class is perfect and is a motivator.

Sometimes I use DVD's and other times I just do yoga on my own. The only problem w/ doing yoga on my own is that I'm TOO much in my head thinking about each posture flowing into the next ... so it's good for me to alternate and use a DVD.

If anyone wants to know which yoga DVD's I use/like pm me.

LOL at "reefers." I know what you mean. I have a few female friends, but usually feel more comfortable with dudes as friends.

Lately I've been suffering from bad anxiety. I've suffered bouts through my life, but now it's overload because my life right now is awful (in limbo both jobwise and dating wise). Strangely, when I danced at clubs I didn't have it. Like mentioned earlier, yoga seems to help.

I have suffered from severe GAD ever since I was about 19 years old. I am dealing with other issues now too. I won't know until I can get to the doctor and find out what is going on with me, but I have no insurance right now and can't afford to pay out of pocket. Sometimes I think half the problem is knowing I can't go to the doctor and do something about it.

Alot of my anxiety seems to stem from hormones, when I was on birth control it was MUCH more controllable and nowhere near as severe. I went off BC back in February because I wanted to try a new kind, and haven't been able to go back to the doctor yet to get back on it (state of AZ is jockeying me around on getting health care, giving it to me, taking it away, giving it back, taking it away again) So, the last two mmonths have been HELL. There are days I feel so out of control I want to check myself into the fucking psych ward!!! Then some days I am happier than a pig in shit, everything is great, and I am fine. It's HELL.

Xanax helps me ALOT. I know everyone is either for or against drugs but I am for it and it helps me and improves my quality of life. It's not for everyone, though.

I also figured out that my "anxiety" at work was stemming from drinking hard alcohol. I realized that I was getting personality changes when I drank vodka, and I'd fly off the handle at the littlest thing or let one stupid comment from a customer ruin my night. I stopped drinking vodka 2 weeks ago (poured the bottle I had down the drain!!! ) and I have made twice $$$ and have actually had an easier time talking to people and selling dances being pretty much sober (I limit myself to 1 glass of wine before shift) Some reading from the Strip and Grow Rich program has also helped significantly.

Default Re: Has anyone here suffered from anxiety?

i guess i've got anxiety. it's weird. i'm not actually a shy person. i like talking to people a lot.

i think it's a ptsd sort of thing. when i was a kid, i went from having a pretty happy childhood to a pretty miserable childhood in a very short period of time. my grandpa died, my mom started drinking too much, my dad and stepmom were arguing a lot late into the night, my stepmom suddenly went from loving me to hating me and yelling at me all the time and not telling me why (she told me that i knew what i'd done and that i'd done it on purpose, but nothing more specific than that), i went from being relatively happy and social at school to crying all the time and getting teased for it. worse things that could've happened, but with everything at once i felt like my whole world fell apart.

ever since then i'm afraid of people being mean to me. so i'm afraid to talk to people. sometimes i'm even afraid to look them in the eye.

it's totally irrational. total lizard brain stuff.

i can tell myself this. i can tell myself that anyone who's mean to someone who's nice is clearly a jerk. but things that happen when we're kids are hard to get over.

the only thing that really helps is talking to people a lot, desensitizing myself. like, if i work after not working for a while, it'll usually take a few nights before i make any money. the first night i'll barely talk to customers, won't go to the rail and make them tip me, nothing. next night i get better. then better, then i usually have a really good night. then i usually sleep late can't do my pre-work routine in full, so i don't work that night, and psych myself out all over again. fun cycle.

some people think i'm depressed or bipolar based on how they've seen me act, but i don't think i am. i've been genuinely depressed before, around the time i turned 19. i know how it feels. i just get really frustrated with myself and my inability to do things i want/need to do, and it makes me mad or sad. it's a symptom, but not the cause.

if i'm in a situation where my anxiety isn't getting triggered, i seem totally chill and even happy. i feel optimistic and generally good about life and the world and myself. no one talking to me would even guess i have a problem.

    it's weird.

i love most of stripping. i just hate going up to a customer that might be a jerk. because a lot of them are total jerks, though often they're only jerks on accident because they're feeling defensive or are wasted. or they really are jerks and don't actually matter. but like i said, it takes a couple shifts to start thinking that way.

I am also really pale and my face used to go red on me a lot. I quit eating or drinking anything with gluten and now my face does not go red on me all the time like it used to.

I also used to get panic attacks because I would never express my feelings of anger or fear. I just kept everything to myself. Now if I have fear or anger I talk to people and I don't have panic attacks anymore.

If a person really needs medication because they can't get out of bed, then they should DEFINATELY GET MEDICATION. If your anxiety is so bad that it makes it so you can't work, then you need to get help. I'm not on medication anymore but a few years ago I needed it. I had been through too many bad things and I just couldn't do anything. I guess it was a nervous breakdown. Even alcohol and caffeine did not help. Luckily my friend told me that I needed to get medication and I did. You don't have to stay on medication for your whole life; but if you can't function at all then medication and a psychiatrist can help.

I often feel that way. Women have wacky hormones.
