Dizzy Money orders and IRS payments

I see on the IRS website they accept money orders and cashiers checks. I owe quite a bit for taxes this year and need to know what amount is the limit for purchasing a money order or a certified check from the bank, or is there none? Even though I am paying taxes, and using this money to pay taxes to the government, I still feel like I cannot walk into the bank or grocery store with X000.00 amount of dollars and ask for a money order/check. It has to be some sort of red flag.
Do they accept personal checks? If so, I don't have all the money in the bank anyway so I would still need to use money orders or bank checks. So I guess my main question is what's the most you can get a money order or certified check for before they flag you?
Also, what's the best way to pay the government their money? Personal check, money order, payment plan, or bank certified check?

I searched but couldn't find a thread on this.. I hope all you money smart people out here can help me. Most of the dollar den stuff is chinese to me! THANKS A BUNCH!!

I've always wrote personal checks to the IRS and never had a problem. I don't think there's a limit with a personal check. Put your SS# and the form# that you're using on the check.

Money orders have limits, like $300 to $500 for the ones you buy at a drug store. You can use a cashiers check. I don't think there's a limit with a cashiers check.

It's better to pay with a personal check because the cashed check goes back to your bank. The bank will have a microfishe copy of the cashed check so you can confirm that the check was cashed just in case you need to.

If you attempt to purchase money orders totaling more than $1000 from a single source on a single day, the law requires that the seller take the buyer's information and forward it to the IRS ( and state tax agency ), FBI etc. This is an outgrowth of the Patriot Act's terrorist anti-money laundering provisions.

^^I thought I had heard that before about 1000 being the limit. Wanted to confirm.

    THANK YOU BOTH!!
I think I will just put that money in the bank gradually and send the checks on their way.
