Other than the obvious, how was it similar and different? How was the cash? Go go is popular in my area and they pay their dancers a flat rate plus tips..

I was never a go-go dancer or want to be one. The go-go's do get hired here, but the pay is low for what their doing for all those hours.
Most stay for 6-8 hours for 9-10$/hr... with all the movement and loud music, and a low pay... no way. I rather get a regular job

Not a go go dancer in the strictest sense, but I did bikini dancing where we weren't allowe to take anything off. Keep in mind this was 1993-1995, but the money then was pretty good and didn't have to hustle much to get dances.
However, I did also go go dancing at a nightclub where I was in a cage. This wasn't a gentlemens club and I think I was paid $10 hour (this was back in the middle 90's). I made more money dancing at clubs so I quit this.

girls here make 10-15 dollars a night doing go go. I never did it, just went straight into dancing at a nude club. eh...I would do go go if I really needed a job, but probably not.

i go go danced once, made approximately $7. it was for an artist i really wanted to see, so i didn't care.
but now i manage a troupe, and the girls get paid approximately $50 per gig, plus tips. i spoke with a club about getting them booked 4 nights a week, and he told me $50 was steep, considering he also ran another bar where the girls danced for drinks and whatever tips they made.
go go dancing is pretty worthless, for the most part. from what i've experienced, it's only the girls who love the attention, and get drunk all the time that last long. :/

I was a go-go dancer to start with, then I worked in a pastie bar, then full stripping. I would never go bad to go-go dancing because you dance too hard for too little money. I was lucky enough to dance at the highest paying place in town. That was 80 bucks a night. I had to dance for a straight hour with no break.
There are ways to go about that without getting too tired, but still.
I was a go-go dancer a few monthes ago. I for damn sure didn't do it for the money. I got 25 bucks, but I did it so I could network. The net working was worth it, but the 25 bucks I spent that on gas.

It's interesting that you ask this question. Are you trying to do it yourself? I think it really depends on the area and the company you work for. I was a gogo dancer for 3 weeks. It was different for me than the other girls who posted on here. For one, I didn't get paid hourly. I was told when and where I had to show up and only got tips. I worked for a guy in the Modesto area- let me know if you are trying to work here because you DO NOT want to work with this guy. You probably aren't, but anyways.. We were like independent contractors so we made $5 off each lap dance we gave and any other tips people wanted to give. Which was never more than a few bucks a night. I made like 50-80 bucks a night depending. It was indeed a lot more work for less pay, but I would do that over a regular job anyday. Just not for the guy I worked for. 2-3 hours of dancing for 50-80 bucks- I think it's worth it. You would probably only be making 20 bucks at McDonalds or something for that amount of time. Just sayin. I would rather strip though. Way easier, slower dancing, you get less tired, and doing this, I am encouraged to talk to customers and get them to buy dances. When I was a go go dancer, I was encouraged not to talk to any one person for too long. If they didn't want a dance, get up and shake my ass and surely someone else will call me over. I choose being a stripper over a go go dancer any day, but that was a great way for me to start getting into the business. I say go for it if you need a job.![]()
No pressure, no diamonds.

No it was just a subject that came up at the club where I dance..I definitely feel more 'at home' with my clothes off and someone would probably rush the stage to remind me to keep my top on if i was just go go 'ing lol
One of our clubs pays 10/hr plus tips but when I walked in to see the place, none of the girls had the fat roll of bills that strippers do on their garters.
Fifty to eighty is way too low, if I was to only make that per day I'd just go to the beach![]()

I've tried go-go dancing/cage dancing unofficially. It's REALLY freaking weird going from a pole to a cage.
In talking to girls from that city who were trying to teach me "cage tricks" in return for pole tricks, they were like - SHOCKED to find out how much more money I made than them doing straight up stripping. Poor girls make about $11/hour. Some nights that are slow, sure - they do better than me. (It's been a string of like ... seriously bad night lately. I walked out of the club with $13 after tip out. No, I'm not missing a zero. THIRTEEN dollars.) But when it's averaged out, the distinct difference in money making is insane.

I did it in Manhattan and made $200 a night for a total of an hour's dancing. 3 sets of 20 mins spread out over 3-4hrs. Still not worth it to me. Was mostly models looking for extra cash.

^NJ are almost all go-go..but we still do lapdances, VIP, and all the normal 'stripper things' ..only difference is the law is no hot naked girls in the same building as alcohol- otherwise everything else is the same. And depends on the location/day of the week/custies that come in, but still do well money wise.

^ Oops sorry lol, we don't have that here- thank goodness lol. Not sure I'd be so happy dancing in a cage? lol.
I was a go-go dancer in the big San Diego clubs for years. It was tough! ALOT of competetion and asshole DJ's. I somehow got gigs but it was really hard for me compared to the Barbies that I worked amongst. I knew alot of people too, so that helped. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably never have even got an audition.
There were usually two ways there, either get hired by the club or DJ's would advertise for go-go dancers and you would gig with them. I went on an audition for a DJ one time and he didn't even let me get dressed. He said my boobs weren't big enough right off the bat and he needed at least a C cup "enhanced" Sent me walking right back out the door......Said "Hey sorry, I don't have time to be nice, this is business" Hey, at least he was honest....
I got gigs in the big clubs but got treated different than their "top" girls (Barbies) I'd get less stage time and the shittier placed podiums in the club (like in the corner) The Barbies also got their own dressing room and me and the "other" girls would usually get stashed in the basement, or the store room in the kitchen to change.
I got hooked up with a few gigs at some of the gay clubs in the Hillcrest area of San Diego and that was AWESOME. They actually wanted girls that didn't look like Barbie and as long as you were in shape, could dance your ass off and costume yourself well then you were hired. They treated me like gold and payed me more than the big clubs too. Too bad it was towards the end of my residence there, I was getting ready to move....or I would have stayed working for Numbers (the gay club I was at last)
I spent years trying to be something I wasn't and keeping up with that scene was just too much for me. I didn't have the "look" or the pretentious attitude that was required to really become a high-paid, highly known go-go dancer in those big clubs. The whole import scene was getting big there too, so they had alot of the HIN models coming into the clubs to guest go-go. I mean, I was in shape, tan, and hot but I just couldn't compare to those super California bombshells.
gogo here is pretty decent money for the amount of actual stage time. I have & would gladly again, but there is a very high bar for go-go dancers in most clubs here where it depends on what style they are looking for wither I could even be considered for it.
Normally there is a flat rate 150-250 maybe more plus tips, drinks, guestlist & other perks for only about an hour of actual dancing spread out for maybe 2-4 hrs. So it's a decent part time side money thing.
But damn here you need to know how to dance & look good in the right outfit which are usually not cheap in itself. Still girls who make a career out of it & make a name for themselves get paid travel, make way more, and do pretty well for themselves --like some of the top fetish dancers or those that work in circuit parties doing gogo.
It is great in that it's fun to be a spotlight in a club/party atmosphere you might enjoy & kickass cardio exercise to dance in 15-20min str8 sets. There is no hustling or groping going on.
Over all i recommend , but only at certain clubs where it's worth the money & you seriously enjoy being there.

I go go danced 2 years before I started stripping. This was a couple years ago tho. $150-250 every friday from 10pm to 2am (30 mins set, 30mins break). Then thursday, saturday, and sunday at various dance clubs. It was a very great experience for me. You get paid to party and drink. It was great extra money besides my daytime job. The standard payout for go go dancer in Chicago used to be about $75 per hour. I partnered up with my best frd. Thats how we sell ourselves to club promoters and owners. We tell them we will bring them more people...and yah di yah di yah.... We also get offers, but we would always turn down low offers.
Then suddenly, we had the urge to want more money. So we both ditched the club scenes and started stripping. Til this day, we both still reminisce the good old days.. lol
Now, the price for gogo dancing here dropped alot. Cause alot of 21 and under girls are willing to do it for dirt cheap, like $50-$80, for such hard work.
