Question Why do you dread working?

Assuming that you do, that is. And here, I'm directing the question mostly towards those who have worked for more than a few months, since most newbies go through a prolonged honeymoon phase with this job...

Anyway...Anyone else dread going in to work?

It seems like the less I work, the more I dread it. I think it's because I'm a student, so I'm used to being valued in a different way during the majority of my life. It's a crazy transition to work in a strip club.

Why do YOU dread going into work? Any tricks you have for getting around it?

I am about to start looking for an outside sales job, that pays cash.. I have to have medicaid for my kids, my son is sick alot and I can afford insurance.
I am thinking about going to school for trade then going back for something that pays better... I dont have any tips other than think that you have to pay your bills, and soon after school you will have a good job! good luck girl!

Yeah, it's not a super big deal right now. It's more that I just don't feel like going in after a week of school/interning/volunteering. It's not like I'm paying bills where I have to work just to survive. Thankfully, I've saved up a lot of money, so I'm just saving up for my future now.

    Keep the stories comin' though!

I'm still relatively new.....April will be my 8th month dancing. I do get the same way though. At my club you have to work Monday, then are free to work whenever during the week. So far I've taken at least a week off per month due to not feeling like working on a Monday. After the week off, it is more difficult to get myself in too.

With me, I just dread working in general. I have hated going in to every single job I have had. Ideally, I would have a sugar daddy and never have to work, but that is not an option.

So far though, dancing has caused me the least work-related dread overall. I just remind myself how much money I can make compared to all of my past jobs, and with how little effort on my part. I also like to sing the theme song of The Apprentice while I get ready for work. "Money money money money....money!!!"

man i sometimes do, especially if its friday. usually its 'ugh i know the friday night crowd is really going to make me mad when i could be out having fun instead'.

another thing-- in austin i barely worked and when i did i dreaded going in. it was just 20$ dances and watching other girls get groped, barely making money on stage, not even having poles that were fun to do tricks with on stage. I just didnt like the environment so i didnt want to be there.

A lot of it is just wanting to do other things. i like being a dancer, but getting myself into work is an obstacle.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I only dread it because I never know how bad or good its gonna be. The longer I stay away, the harder it is for me to get moving and hustle when I am there. I also dread it because I have a long drive (a lil' over an hour each way) and I dread it when I know that none of my work homies are going to be there. I don't really care for a lot of my co workers, so I dread having to work with them.

The things that make me not want to work: poor management, girls being negative/mean, clubs with trashy customers, simply not feeling good/lazy, or feeling like I'm missing out on something fun that my friends are doing.

I can get around the last one and the laziness by working out of town. If I'm on a set schedule I actually have more energy, and if I'm out of town I'm not really paying attention to what I'm missing out on at home in terms of parties etc.

I dread it after a long week of school and volunteering- I feel like I have no free time and when I do I am too tired/sore to want to do anything fun. Also have a really long drive which sucks, and lately I've been more grossed out than usual with the creepy perverts trying to take me home. Oh, and then seeing other girls dance that slide a little bit more than they should on the rules...

^ Yeah, that's been sucking for me too. I work at a nude no-contact that has recently become (illegally and informally) a medium contact club. Boobs in face and grinding are now standards. I'm refusing to give contact dances/stage shows though, so it always grates on me to work in that environment.

The only time I dread going to work is when I am no longer happy at the club or bored with the place. When that happens, I just move on to another club.

I would go through phases where I just didn't want to be nice to and have to put on a show and talk to people. Or I didn't want to deal with the girls.
I was the same way though, the less I worked the less I wanted to. It would just be so hard to drag myself away from what I'd rather be doing.

The reason I dread going into work when stripping is because I don't want to leave my cozy house and I really don't like leaving my family. It has nothing to do with the club itself, I just don't like leaving my hubby and daughter. I think if we had worked the same shifts, like we do now, I wouldn't have dreaded it.

I really dread going to work ALL the time. I hate leaving my family, I hate dealing with cheap, ugly, fat, smelly pervs! And most of all I hate that since the economy is down right now... 40% of the time, I have to CONVINCE them to spend money on me. ugh!!!

How do I get over it? I really don't! I just know there is bills to pay and I can't make $500/night at any other job (that I know of) so I suck it up and just go in.

Usually, listening to music while I'm getting ready helps a lot. I get to focus on the fun part of stripping: Going on stage...

I feel like I dread going to work now because it's so dead in my club during the week. I'm always worried I'm going to go to work and leave with less than $100.

Why spend 7 hours of my time to go make $30? It definitely doesn't make me want to work. This has happened maybe 3 times to me since new years. Especially when you pay more than what your going home with.

I also find that the lazier I am the more I want to continue being lazy. I used to always do 4 days a week. Now I just do 3.

I know a trick I'll probably use when I'm ready to do 4 days again is to put myself on the schedule for 4 days. When I put myself on the schedule for only 3 and the 4th day is an option, I always say "Nahh, no big deal, I'm not on the schedule." But when I am on the sched I'm kind of obligated to go.

It's not that I -never- sit with nice guys anymore, but they are so rare now. Also, my tolerance for the douchey/mean/arrogant ones is so low right now it's ridiculous.

It goes beyond just outwardly mean too. That used to be where it ended, but not anymore. Now it's pretty much outright disgust for I'd say about 90% of the men I talk to on a daily basis. I'm actually getting to the point where I wish I -did- get drunk at work, because everything in my brain is screaming "get away from this person" nearly constantly.

I sat with a really awesome guy on Monday. I really wish they were all like that. And FTR, no, he didnt spend a shitload of money. Just a decent amount. There's just so much arrogance, homophobia, sexism, anger, etc etc. I hate being around it. Not to mention I don't make much anymore. Certainly not enough to deal with it.

Hopefully I only have a couple more months left. I may dance a few times a month after that, but I -have- to quit dancing full time. This 5 days a week stuff is making me bonkers.

Some of the negative stuff that makes me not want to work even if I am physically able would be:

Hookers off the street coming into the club posing as female custys and stealing customers -- this seems to be pretty popular in vegas now

Making less than $100 after house fee and tip out

More girls than custys which is the norm in vegas; but sometimes its just ridiculous.

Certain girls getting hook ups even though i'm paying a house fee. This means I have no access to groups of guys because some girls r willing to give half their earnings to the bouncers to set them up with guys right when they walk in the door. That makes me really mad.

My trick for getting around it: They say that it takes an average of 10 trys for each sale made. So I just look at each attempt as 1 try closer to a sale. I also try to focus on the health aspect of the job. We do have to stay in good shape to do this and that is a really positive thing.

    jerks

watching as other girls make good money and i can't even get a dance. hearing the excuses. getting hit on. getting accused of 'hustling' a guy and told to 'be real' and come back to his hotel. being between a rock and a hard place when guys ask questions that have no correct answer (like if i have a boyfriend, because apparently if i say no it's a lie). getting compliments and leaving with back house. dudes sitting at the stage and not tipping. dudes asking what they get (my new favorite answer 'bareback anal for ten bucks'. they ask 'really' all excited, then i tell them no it's a strip club and nude, friction dances are 25 bucks per song or 3 for 60). guys not even looking me in the eye. guys telling me 'maybe later' when i ask them how they're doing. guys telling me to talk to their friend who obviously doesn't want to be bothered. guys telling me i make so much money...if i haven't gotten any from you, what makes you think i've gotten it from everyone else?!?!?!?!

i wish i was hotter. or uglier. but being in the middle means i make jackshit.

i've always liked being the nice girl who talks a while before asking for a dance, but at this point i just hate them all.

and i'm so fucking sick of management and how unhelpful they've been lately.

and the bartenders/waitresses/hostesses who make more than i do yet demand tips on the rare occasion i actually get a room, even though they never ask the customer to buy me a drink or tip me. fuck that shit.
-love everyone but keep them far from your soul-

This is a really helpful way of looking at it. Asking guys for dances has never been my thing (I'm more of a 'talk to one guy and make all of my money off of him' kinda girl), so having to start doing that has been wearing on me. Maybe I'll start counting no's just to get closer to a yes! Thank you.

Useless conversation. Granted I'm talking to get a dance, but I hate having to suck up to guys who I don't give a damn about and wouldn't give the time of day OTC. Why can't you walk up to every guy in the club and just say Do you want a dance, Yes or No? Next....

Newbie here, 4 months of dancing, almost 5, but I'm way past the honeymoon phase. I hate going into work because when I got hired, it was my first time dancing, ever, and I've been permanently labeled as the "shy girl." I don't have many friends at the club because I don't know what to say to the other girls, and I have very low confidence because of my flat chest. I'm thinking maybe after I get my breast surgery things will get better.

I've had the "shy girl/good girl" label too, for not drinking/doing drugs on the job or doing extras, and for not being loud and obnoxious or not airing out my dirty laundry to the entire damn dressing room, for coming in on time, not fighting/stealing/etc.. Basically for following the absolute MINIMUM of rules to ensure that I don't get fired and trying to stay out of drama and in control of my money. It pisses me off when that's seen as a negative thing
