Default Anyone currently in a Gym now?

I am seeking a gym to go , I am interested in GoodLife Fitness and x-treme fitness, has anyone tried those? What were your fees? Since I know you can hassle the people as low as possible. Im looking for something 25-40 a month.

What gym do you currently go to? What are the fees? Are you pleased with the gym?

And any suggestions on how to hassle them down?

I belong to the gym at my alma mater (grad school). It has a pool and exercise classes (I take yoga). I pay about $100 for 6 months. I think it's worth it.

I have been a member of Gold's Gym, Bally Total Fitness, and 24Hour Fitness. I have to say unless you get an awesome deal, Bally's isn't worth the fees. I belong to bally's now, and pay $45/month for my husband, me, and daycare for my daughter. At 24 hour, I paid about $70/month for the same, BUT the classes were soooo much better and their daycare has much more the kids to do. Gold's gym is awesome too, and if there was one closer and their fees were minimal, I would go there.

I was a member of the local YMCA. It was a tiny Y - Express in a good area and it was always just me and a bunch of older, rich guys working out. Machines were always free, it was awesome! Loved it! I think it was about $25 a month, but if you joined the Y with the pool and all the bells and whistles down the street it was more like 50-60.

Now I just go to the gym at my college. It isn't the greatest, but it's free!

I was with the YMCA for many years. I had a membership plus, which was $70, but if you signed up for just a regular membership it was $35 a month.
the only difference is the plus membership had a steam room, free towels, TV, whirlpool, shaving, shampoo and other personal care products.

Right now I am with snap fitness and it works out to be $200 for 6 months. Very basic gym, but does the job. Not even a proper change room though

Tried both, currently a member of Goodlife, will probably cancel contract to go to another gym here in Toronto with way better rates and amenities.

I belong to a Gym here in the Keys that is 100$ for 3 months.

I told a friend of mine which gym and she said 'Oh that's a man's gym!', probably because there is no AC, which in the Keys in summer in the afternoon can be brutal. Never bothered me, though, and I like it because they have a variety of bags there, including a standup which I need for my resistance training stuff. There is only one other gym that has a bag, the trendy air-conditioned gym at the strip mall that the women go to, but they only have one and it's more expensive.

Man I miss cheap gyms in north america. In Australia we have fitness first and I pay $44 every two weeks. I asked the other day if they have a student rate now that I am a student... they don't. I'm on the cheapest membership. I'm gonna join my university gym now I think. The have a membership where you just get pool/group fitness classes for $11 a week - but you can't even use the gym on that one. LOL

Which one did you prefer? I just want to take the group classes. What rate did you get with Goodlife?

$60/month, and they have a million classes you can take everyday. But beware, they have been known for some shady billing practices.

24 hour fitnesss because it's 33 bucks a month and they're everywhere and I travel. also... all i do is 45 min cardio rotating elliptical/stairs/treadmill and basic weights so it's perfect. their yoga classes suck though.

24 hour sometimes has deals where you pay 3 years up front and then it's like $8/month or something for the rest of your life. That's what I have.

Is daycare included in 24 hr memberships? Not to sound ignorant, but I used to be a member there and never took the time to notice. I'm having a baby this summer and it would be great to bring her along to the gym with me.

I think they do, but I never really paid attention. I'll check next time I go. Honestly I only joined because my friend gave me the money for the 3 year up front fee and now I just pay the monthly. I didn't really pay attention to what else they have.

I think some of them have day care and other don't.

    Yes they do.

I've been a member of several gyms and I'm now a member of Lifetime Fitness it's a bit expensive but the child care hours and amenities are awesome.

    Sorry, just saw this.

A standup bag is free standing, rather than hanging from the ceiling or hooks or whatever.

    http://store.titleboxing.com/title-p...-heavybag.html

I much prefer hanging bags for a more grueling workout, except the resistance more than makes up for that--but if I use the resistance bands I put together, on a hanging bag, the handles that the bands are fastened to cause my knuckles to get banged up too much.

So I use the resistance bands on the standup bag for half the rounds, then switch to the weighted gloves on the hanging bag for the rest. The level of difficulty is about the same (though it might be slightly harder with the resistance) but using the weighted gloves is a lot more fun.

Weighted gloves? Are you using something beyond 16-18oz standard sparring gloves?

Gold's Gym is by far the best gym around here. I've tried Fitness First, Snap Fitness and a local gym. I LOVE Golds. I can do anything...no rules. I can lift in my five finger vibram shoes and do dead lifts on the floor, carry around my BCAA drink and if I make a peep cause I'm lifting heavy no one says anything. Too many gyms have SOO many rules about lifting.

AND I love many of their classes. Body pump, not so much....but the step class is awesome and so are some of the zumba classes.

Sorry again lol, I just saw this one too.

I have been taking a break from SW, I do that from time to time to keep from getting too wrapped up in it.

Yes, these weighted gloves are 2 1/2 pounds (40 ounces) each, for a total of 5 pounds weight, if you use all four weights in each glove. I was told that it would be difficult to do this at first, but since I had been using the resistance bands for a year or so before trying it, it was no problem at all. I love these things!

I am a member of Gold's Gym, and I LOVE it. I got a great deal on a membership, too; the $100 enrollment fee was waived, and I pay $30 a month for a VIP membership, instead of the usual $40. All the classes are free, and the gym is fucking ENORMOUS. Gorgeous locker rooms, huge sauna, clean showers. I love that place.

I only go to the gym twice a week and pay the day rate which is $10.

That is only $10 more than if I were to sign up and pay the contract fee.

I have weights at home so whatever I can't do at home I do at the gym. They have a climbing wall. It's awesome!

I joined x-extreme fitness recently. Most of the gyms that were mentioned here are not in Canada! I can go to any of the gyms they have (except for 2) has a pool, hot tub, suana, tanning, and classes which I was really looking for. Havnt tried any yet but so far im happy. The one I go to seem to have many snobs.. not sure if every gym is like that but I hate that stereotypical look. Anyway they dragged me in and im paying 60 a month
