Default Has anyone tried waxing themself?

I only got my eyebrows and a brazilian wax done before. I got sick of paying 50$ for a brazilian and couldn't really afford it. I went 4 times for a brazilian and decided to do my own research to do it on myself. I bought a kit with a wax warmer, wax pot, and strips for 45$ which I thought was a great deal and will last me a long time. So I only tried one time - oh man I only could do a bikini on myself, the fear grew in me since I knew when my hand was going to go for the pull, which made it worse. I had to stop and been shaving since. But I am thinking of trying it again soon.

So has anyone tried waxing themself anywhere, and how did your experience go?

lol yea i tried waxing myself and i couldnt pull the strip off fast enough or something cuz the strip would pull off but leave all the hair still attached! soooo i had my hubby come in and yank the strip off for me and the same thing happened..but this time a bigger mess with wax and hair all clumped together, then i made the HORRENDOUS mistake of putting my leg down and glued yes GLUED my ladybits to my leg...i stick with shaving from now on Coochie Cream is my bff

I have one of those professional wax warmers, and it has saved me tons of money! I do my eyebrows, upper lip, arms, and sometimes legs. I leave the brazilian to a professional though, that's too sensitive an area to screw up on!

I tried it. And discovered that I was allergic to the wax.
I got a rash. And then scabbing. And then peeling. Alllll over my legs.

I do my own waxing, I do a Brazilian although it definitely took a few attempts to start getting good at it.
If I am feeling lazy I admit having someone do it is easier but I got fed up of having to come home and see little bits that needed plucking or evening up after paying good money for a wax, even at good salons. And doing it at home is a lot cheaper and that works for me at the moment!

My top tips for minimal hassle and pain:

Make sure skin is clean, oil-free and completely dry(dusting with baby powder is a must to prevent wax sticking and removing skin along with hair!)

I found waxing in small sections easier until I had some practice, it takes a bit longer but theres less risk of getting caught out with a huge section of wax that is too thick or gone too hard which you then have to chip off piece by piece!

Make sure wax is nice and hot(I use hot, not warm wax, without strips. You just spread the wax and flick up the edge then pull off). Of course be careful wax isn't too hot but if it isn't quite hot enough, it will go on too thick and become like chewing gum.

I find it really helps lessen pain if you take a deep breath in, pull skin taut then on a quick out breath rip the wax off. QUICK. No hesitating, and pulling across skin not away from it.

I tried, I sat on the sink LOL, I haven't attempted it since. I knew it would hurt and just told myself, you like pain right? sure.. kind of a pep-talk into pulling those strips. The faster you pull it seems the easier. But I would rather spend $50 bucks.

I tried on my legs and bikini area, too scared to try the brazillian first go around. Well, I ended up with weird bruising that looked like hickeys all over my legs and all the hair didn't even come out! Dunno HOW I messed up, but I obviously did something VERY wrong! (Apparently the bruising thing has happened to some other girls, as there was a thread about this a few years back and I wasn't the only one with this experience.)

The one time I tried waxing my bikini area I ended up with a quarter-sized hicky-looking bruise on my crotch because I did something wrong, maybe pulled at the wrong angle or something. Never again! IF I were to wax again, I would go to a pro.

I let NO ONE touch my eyebrows. I went to a pro ONCE for that and she fucked it up. Now I only pluck a tiny bit as needed. My brows look fine natural anyway.

I tried once, NEVER again! I think it's so hard because you know it's going to hurt, so when you pull the strip off you don't do it as hard as you should which makes it even more sore! I shave every day instead. If you do it regularly you don't get razor bumps.

Same as most of the general consensus. I can do my legs by myself, but I can't do my own Brazilian. I tried once and totally balked. Resulted in chipping off wax because I was too much of a baby to just pull the strip. Whoops.

My GF had laser hair removal and it's fucking AWESOME. Expensive, but TOTALLY worth it. It diesn't even hurt! It pinches a little, but most places will give you anesthetic cream so you can't even feel a thing. She never, ever shaves and never has razor burn. I'm saving up to get my own lady parts done and my underarms.

I use the Sally Hanson ready made wax strips. The hair has to be just the right length and it has to be done in small segments. The skin also has to be pulled very tight or the wax strips won't come off right. I prefer to do it myself. It's like pulling off a bandaid fast, you know it's gonna hurt, but the faster it goes the easier it is on pain and the skin. I heard there is a spray that can be bought to remove pain of waxing, but I'm not all that bothered by waxing, so I have no info on it.

I tried once... only once... I cried... yes cried lol. Plus whatever I did I caused myself to bleed. Never ever ever ever again. My razor is my friend and I have perfected shaving so I don't get any bumps or razor burn or anything. Its quicker to shave and way less painful And ftr I do have very dark thick hair so I do have to shave daily but doesn't bother me at all.

I tried it once but it hurt too much, it made me bleed and it didn't remove all the hair...so I prefer to have it done...

I've never waxed there or been waxed there. I had a friend in college that went and got waxed. She said it hurt so bad she could only let them do one side! After that I swore I'd never even try.

I have a friend who waxed herself. She's always plucking at the hairs individually with tweezers though.

Personally, I shave right now but I plan to get laser hair removal soon.

Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

I'm fortunate enough to be a victim of chronic back pain, and thusly have a stash of Vicoden, Percocet and countless other drugs at the ready.

When I wax, I make a night of it. Glass of wine, a narcotic or two and RRRIIIIIPP! Can't feel a thing! Done and done. Mind you, it's time consuming, and right now I'm shaving. I do love waxing though - keeps me smooth for a good 3 weeks without worry. The pain is growing the pubes back out...

Hahahaha. Sigh....Yes. Not a pretty sight- it was one of those Sally Hanson "No Heat" wax kits; I was still in high school and I couldn't get the hair to come off. I tried ripping it off once or twice and it got stuck in the hair and wouldn't come off.

Since then, I've started shaving. Sooooo much simpler.

If you wanna get waxed, leave it to the professionals.

I paid to have it done once, and the girl did a really bad job. Left a lot of hair behind, and my crotch was red and stung for like, 4 days. Never again. I have been doing it myself ever since.

It's not bad. I use the Sally Hansen honey was and muslin strips I buy at Sally's. I use azulene oil afterward, which really keeps irritation to a minimum.
