Well, as I understand it, to make money over adsense etc. you have to have:
a) a website people actually visit
b) a website people actually visit and click on ads.
Promoting a website and building it up from the ground is a very difficult thing, and even more difficult if your only purpose for building it is to put ads on it. If you CAN build a website up and get tons of hits, you might make some money, but I'm not sure it'll even cover your hosting costs at a moderate level, depending on where and how you host.
^This. You get a TINY amount of money for every click on an ad. Tiny. Less than a cent.
You'd have to have a site earning you active income, ie. have people coming on all the time for whatever reason, before your passive ad income would even cover upkeep of your site.
Get the fuck off my harbl, yo'.

I make a few hundred a month in passive income this way and I do not spend any money for domains or websites.
Also, adsense doesn't always pay a fraction of a cent for clicks. I have a few keywords that pay three or four dollars a click. It's rare but they are out there.
Read everything you can about SEO and keep writing simple articles. Run them through a spell check and read them out loud to make sure that they make sense. You do not have to be a professional writer, just keep it simple.

I didn't this know before I signed up for it, but Adsense is not adult-friendly. (in case you wanted to monetize an adult entertainment/topic oriented blog or website)
