    Default Permanent hair straightening

Has anyone had this done? I'm thinking about it because I have to straighten my hair every day. It is VERY curly naturally and also very fine. I've heard of Yuko and the ionic bond straightening. Does it fry your hair and how much does it cost?

    Thanks!

In town I think it's the same cost as a perm as it's basically the same thing - it doesn't fry your hair any more than other chemical treatments, and the salon can recommend a good "aftercare" routine.

And I here I am faffing about with rollers and pincurls because my hair is too straight. Bah!

(On an aside, have you been to Peter Mark on Arthur Street? Massage chairs while you get your hot oil treatments done - omg, YES PLEASE. Going to buy one of those chairs done day)

Thanks babe do you know where does it? Does Peter Mark do it? I found one place but it was in Newtownabbey, and they don't give you the price until you go for a consultation. Those chairs sound amazing!

Oddly enough the only people I know have had it done are boys (weirdos!), I am pretty sure Peter Mark do it, if not there's Alex Mekki, who definitely do. It's sometimes called "relaxing" and not straightening, just to be sure the place you go does it Alex Mekki is £85 for a full head, maybe more because your hair's so long

Oooh that isn't bad at all! I used to go to Alex Mekki before the recession hit. They're really good in there, always give you exactly what you ask for. I went to Rogue a while back and will bever go again. She dyed it so dark it was nearly black, which doesn't suit me. So now I've been doing it myself.
    Thanks!

i've had my hair chemically relaxed many many times, and i wouldnt recommend it, but that's just my opinion. it didnt FRY my hair per se, but left it incredibly tangled and unmanageable. that said, it did make it pin straight, including at the top. there was no mousse or spray that could lift those roots any. it was like i just smashed all my hair flat down on my head and in front of my face. it was such an unhealthy look. oh, and i'm sure this wouldnt happen to you, but the lady who did mine the last time i got it relaxed RIPPED through all my hair with a fine toothed comb pulling the straightening solution through it. when i got home i felt like a half-cancer-patient; when i ran my fingers over my scalp it was like half stubble, half tangly hair. gross.

its been a few years now to finally get all that unhealthy hair grown completely out. i still dye/bleach my hair every month or so, but for some reason, that relaxer crap just sucked the life out of my hair.

get a t3 professional flat iron (sephora's got them). it's pricey, but omg sooooo worth it! i dont mind straightening my hair with an iron at all any more!

Yikes that sounds like a pretty awful experience. I just called the salon and the girl said that they can make it poker straight, or they can just relax the curl a bit. I'm going to call in and have a chat with them on Thurs and hopefully one of the stylists at the salon will have had it done themselves so I can check out their hair. If I don't feel comfortable I won't go ahead with it because my hair is my pride and joy.

^ I hear that. Break a nail? I don't care. Bad hair day? I freak out. I will literally spend like 20 minutes or so petting my hair til someone calls me out like "What the fuck are you doing?"

I know there is a Japanese thermal straightening treatment, although I have heard some negative things about it.

I myself have done a brazilian keratin treatment, and it was ok, but didn't really straighten my hair per se, but definitely eliminated frizz and made it very silky.

One dancer I know via the internet did this: http://lipglossreviews.blogspot.com/...treatment.html

And says it is amazing for straightening hair, and since it's still a keratin treatment, it rebuilds your hair instead of damaging it. This may be just what you need!

Do you have any frizz problems? A Brazilian blowout will get rid of frizz but leave the curl.

i had a friend who did the japanese straightening and it killed her hair and scalp. she had scabs all over her scalp. it did look natural and healthy though. BUT looked very strange when her hair started growing in because the roots were frizzy and slightly curly and she didn't know how to get it straight without going back in. i did a relaxer treatment moons ago and it also killed my hair but it was already in bad condition...it didn't make it completely straight either, just made straightening ten times faster. i would recommend the brazilian blowout to get rid of frizz and a great flat iron so you can straighten it much quicker.

I thought of this, but just for my fringe (bangs. I'm Australian. We call it a fringe here, lol), as my hair's naturally wavy and I got sick of styling it, having it look good, and then it raining or being humid and it going curly.

But 2 things put me off...

    1. It'd grow out REALLY quickly, being only a short length of hair. The ends would be straight but the roots would be curved. Ew.

    2. You apparently can't have anything touch your hair, or tuck your hair behind your ears, or do ANYTHING to it that might leave a kink or dent in it for 24 hours, or it'll remain that way until it grows out. This freaked me out! I wouldn't be able to sleep on it!

One of my real world friends had her hair chemically straigtened and it absolutly ruined it, her hair has never been the same since, and this was about 4 years ago. Her hair used to be very thick, slight curl but very glossy and shiny, she had it straightened and it was fine at first, but after a while it began to just break off, and honestly, it was like straw. She'd never dyed or messed with it before doing this and says it was the worst mistake ever, her hair took forever to grow out but it's never fully recovered and is quite fragile even now.

Im sorry, i sound like such a scare mongerer but i dont want anyone else to go through that, I know how i feel about my hair and if it happened to me id be devastated.

Head & Shoulders made my mother nearly bald about 10 years ago, her scalp was bleeding and weeping - awful. Hair stuff is a minefield, people react to everything so differently that it's always scary trying to figure out how things will end up.

Maybe get a strand test done first VJ?
