    Default Eating healthier? Help!

    Hey girls,
I am having the hardest time figuring out what to eat. I am trying to lose a couple inches/tone up my body and I have no idea where to begin. I was depressed these past few months due to the loss of my sister, so I have been eating horribly. What are your eating schedules? And what do you eat on a weekly basis? Recipes would be much appreciated too.

PS. Thought I would add this. I am already fit, but not to how I was about 6 months ago. I used to have a 6 pack, and everything was all nice and tight but now, there is not a 6 pack, and everything isn't as tight as I want it to be. I am hoping to get into figure/fitness modeling eventually so that might help with what I should be eating as well.

I am trying to lose some weight/tone up my body and I have no idea where to begin.

---->>> A good place to start would be with a trip to the grocery store and a gym membership. When you eat make sure you eat 3-5 small meals/snacks per day. It keeps your metabolism constantly burning. Also incorporate foods high in protein and fiber. Protein will make you look lean/toned and fiber will keep you feeling full for much longer. When you go to the gym you must do cardio and weight training. I forget where the link to the site is- but weight training has been found to be MORE effective overall with weight loss. A combination of the 2 would even be better. I try and do at least 30-45mins of running/jogging on the "Fat Burn" setting on the treadmil. Followed by all of the leg and all of the arm weight machines.

I was depressed these past few months due to the loss of my sister, so I have been eating horribly. What are your eating schedules? And what do you eat on a weekly basis? Recipes would be much appreciated too.

---->>> Really sorry to hear that you lost your sister. My sister is going through a pretty serious bout of depression right now and she is suffering from a major loss of apetite. I remember reading somewhere that you are supposed to eat breakfast within 1 hour of waking up. So your first meal should be that. Then lunch followed by a snack about 1.5-2 hrs later. Then dinner followed by a snack about 1.5-2 hrs later.

P.S. I bought "Tonalin" from GNC after I read a thread on here about how girls swore by it to get rid of cellulite. When I went to the store and got it the saleswoman was going crazy over the fact that I was buying it. She said she uses it and she dropped 50 lbs in no time. Not saying it's a quick fix or anything, I got it for cellulite- not necessarily weight loss. Just fyi.

    Good luck!

Thank you for the help! I will have to definitely look into Tonalin. I have a photoshoot in a month, so I am trying to get back my abs (which when I workout hardcore they come back for me within a week or two).

I am good with the working out part. I jog a few times a week, plus I do the "P90X". So that I am not so concerned about.. but eating healthy I don't know how much fruit/veggies to eat in a day, when I should be eating protein, if I should add a protein powder into my diet.. etc, etc.

If you have any problems with cravings or overeating my best advice is to never let yourself get to the point where you are hungry and your stomach is about the start growling/already growling. I find that it's when I'm hungry that I start getting my destructive cravings. Keep yourself satiated. Not stuffed, just not hungry.

And like Banana said, eat numerous small(and healthy) meals throughout the day(I'd do 5-, make sure you're grazing instead of sitting down to 3 big meals a day.

I'm so sorry about your sister I can't imagine how terrible it feels.

As far as protein, if you're trying to build muscle you should be trying to get 1-1.5 grams of protein a day for every pound of body weight you have. I'm 155 so when I was weight training I'd do my best to make sure I was consistently getting at least 155 grams of protein in a day. Your body can only absorb so much at one time too(everyone is probably different) but I wouldn't take in more than 40 grams in one sitting.

Most people seem to prefer having protein directly after their workout.

All really good posts here!! I wholeheartedly agree with

    - never letting yourself get really hungry. If you do, it's SO much easier to make not so good choices and/or eat too much

    - eat 3-6 small meals a day. I've been doing this for years, and it wasn't always a purposeful thing. It's just how I am naturally and it suits me. I've always been slim. Must be doing something right! (besides genetics of course)

That stuff about protein, how much should I have if I want to just tone up (I lift 6 pound hand weights and I brisk walk about 30-40 minutes a day), and maintain my healthy eating habits? I don't really want/need to lose any more weight now...I'm 5'7" and weigh 120 pounds...?

    Thanks!

It is really helpful to incorporate raw veggies into your diet in some form. This sounds hard but it can be very simple, just add them to meals. I'e. if you are making a sandwich put tons of lettuce on it (romaine and other types are better than iceberg, darker colored veggies contain more nutrients) and maybe slice up a tomato or an avocado. Then eat a carrot instead of potato chips. Little changes like that are really helpful because you won't miss the way you used to eat as much. Oh, and get your whole grains in too if you don't already. Switching from white grains to whole grains will make such a huge difference in your metabolism and help slim you down.

Read this article. Follow the diet on Page 3, especially if you want to get into figure/ fitness competitions or modeling:

    http://figureathlete.tmuscle.com/art...last_stand&cr=

I'm working with the trainer who wrote it, and he knows what he's talking about. I'm going to compete in a figure competition in the next year (hopefully August), and he's the only trainer I've talked to who I would trust with my body. Here is his article library:

If you combine the diet with one of his workout plans, you'll look amazing again in no time. Seriously. This man is the shit.

workouts: 4 days of lifting (2 days of lower body, 2 days of upper body) 2 days of cardio. 1 day of active rest

Eating: Important things to remember. You should be taking a multivitamin and fish oil. A good quality fish oil is one of the best things you can do for your body

Starchy carbs only after working out. You can have legumes in moderation throughout the day.

    Lean protein at every meal

Don't drink your calories. Water, black coffee and teas. That's it.

Take in a BCAA drink during and after your workouts. Your muscle recovery with significantly increase and bcaa's deter appetite

Learn the difference between physiological hunger and emotional hunger. Learn that hunger is NOT an emergency. In fact if you want to loose fat, you will need to feel a bit of hunger. It's called negative energy balance and it's needed for weight loss. I'm not talking about starving yourself. But if you're an hour from home and feel hungry..wait until you get home and eat. Don't stop and eat Burger Shit for dinner.

Eat until you are 80% full. If you're hungry again in an hour, it wasn't enough...if you're hungry in 2-3 hours that's about right.

Eat at least 4 meals and snacks a day

Consume 4+ servings of veggies a day, and 2-3 servings of fruits per day.

If you need to eat before bed, thinks like cottage cheese, greek yogurt and kefir are best. They digest very slowly and therefore are great for sleeping on.

Another way to tighten up and loose a few is to wake up and do 20 minutes of light cardio before eating.

Check out precision nutrition for more info. I've had fantastic results on this program. It is NOT a diet...it is a way of life. A clean eating way of life that has really reaped some great rewards for me. I used to weigh 220 pounds, I'm down to 160 and loosing. In the last 2 months I've lost 11 inches around my body and next week I'll have a body fat analysis done.

Good luck! I've got a shoot in June
    I'm not who I say I am.

I use the diet in the first link that NikkiR posted. I've been using it for three months now and it's great.

It's a very easy way to eat and you don't have to worry about making up meal plans or figuring out what you should be eating. It also makes grocery shopping really simple.

I eat perfectly to that diet all week. I'm never hungy. I allow myself one cheat meal of anything I want on the weekend so if I'm really craving something, I just promise myself that I can have it for my cheat meal.

Thank you ladies SO SO SO much! Wow, a lot of good advice in here.

NikkaR, good luck to you and your competition! I have a couple body builder friends who want to get me ready to compete in one. But I want to make my body be in the best shape yet before I even think of actually competing. I am an avid reader of Oxygen, and that magazine alone motivates me like crazy.

got2havespunk, Thank you SO much for the tips! A lot of good info you just gave me. Have fun on your shoot, and congrats on the weight loss. Thats awesome! It takes some hard work to get there girl, good for you!

And to the rest of you ladies, thank you so much! Glad to hear that diet worked out for you. I will definitely have to try it out.
