    Thumbs up Best vacation spots???

So I'm looking for places to go on vacation, but have no idea where to start. Help me by posting your favorite vacation spots!!

    Mine first:

Favorite expensive-ish vacation: Sanibel Island, FL
Favorite budget-friendly vacation: Mountain cabins in Arkansas / North Carolina / Georgia

Whether it's your favorite luxury vacation or your family's favorite budget-friendly location...I want to hear them all!

The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

    Favorite Expensive Vacation Spot:

    1) Venice, Italy: Costly only because of the flight. Accommodations and food aren't very expensive once you're there. Riding the boat bus (their main public transportation on St. Lucia), San Marcos Square, the MOMA, the canals (although they can be kinda smelly sometimes!). St. Lucia is very small and the locals are friendly, especially if you go in the off-season (avoid June-August)

    2) Florence, Italy: beautiful, walkable city with a large international student population, relaxed vibe, and beautiful scenery and architecture.

    3) Amsterdam, Netherlands: Because it's Amsterdam!

    Favorite budget friendly vacation:

    1) Las Vegas: There are soo many deals on flights, hotel, dining, etc and plenty of people watching, fun night clubs, etc

2)Nashville, TN: Very good music scene, nice Bellemead area for scoping out beautiful estates, very friendly, hospitable people, very chill vibe and very progressive.

---->>> Favorite expensive-ish/budget-friendly vacation: Honolulu, Hawaii. On Oahu.

It costs a decent amount for the air fare but you can stay at some pretty nice hotels for cheap prices if you want. Also, my Dad had a rental car arranged for us when we got there but it wasn't really necessary and turned out to be a waste. We walked everywhere and took the bus or cabs where ever we wanted to go. If you do that- it saves you a ridiculous amount of money. The first time I went with my family was 2 years ago and we stayed at a 5 star hotel that was beach front there- SOOO expensive but awesome for our first experience. If you only planning on going there once and want to make the most of it, I would do this to get the whole vacation-y feeling. However, this past month my family and I went again and we stayed at a reasonable/more economical choice that was more practical, but definitely still nice- SUPER clean, friendly staff, nice rooms. I would advise if you're on a budget to get a place that's not beach front, even if it's a 2-3 block walk it's still nice. You pass lots of shops and lots of people on the way to the beach!) It's the best of both worlds. The beach is so relaxing... there's always sailing or even just laying out and getting a good tan. But if you're looking to have fun there are tons of activities to do... jet skiing, snorkeling, parasailing, helicopter rides, night life- drinks, etc.

Also there are other islands to explore... Maui, etc. So if you are planning a long vacation I would arrange to see the other islands for a day. I heard it's very nice. My family and I have never done it but from what I've heard the other islands are more quiet and don't have as much traffic.

    Hope this helps!

We'll see. If I get this job, I will have to work a few Saturdays. And I don't think I can ask for a Friday or Monday off yet. Plus, I'm an old bitch now...can't just do the drive, party, and drive back all in 2 days.

But I really, really, really wanna! My ex bf and I are talking about going one weekend. We have a place to stay and all if we go together.

yeah..Hawaii. Big island is pretty affordable and if you want to do some real backcountry exploring, go to Pahoa or Kalapana on big island.

    Maui is incredible, but pricey

If you visit Waikiki on Oahu I would make the same suggestion..don't rent a car. The bus system is great and you'll save money. You can circle the island by bus. Bring cash. If you like city life, Waikiki has a decent amount of restaurants, nightclubs, free hula demos on the beach etc. Beaches are crowded but very nice. Snorkeling is great over at Hanauma bay.

Check your surf reports and the timing of when the box jellyfish arrive. Talk to lifeguards make sure where you swim is safe. There are plenty of safe spots on south shore ..

Greece. Athens has the best food I have ever eaten in my life. Wander off the tourist areas and go into the old city to eat with the locals. Then go to Santorini and any one of the other islands. Santorini is touristy, but it is so beautiful that you might not notice. Rent a moped and drive around the island. There is a saying about Santorini, it has more wine than water. need I say more?

^^never been to Greece. I want to go soooo bad.

    Favorite expensive:
Riviera Maya in Mexico and Cozumel. I love the beach, snorkeling, and swimming. I would like to go see Japan and China, though. That will be my next vacay.

    Favorite Budget:
Florida, for the same reasons as above. Also, Great Sand Dunes in North Carolina. Also, Salem, Mass. for the amazing history.

This is really great. I love places that you wouldn't think would make good vacation spots...those are the places with cheaper prices. They can be real finds!

Like the mountains in Georgia / North Carolina. Relatively cheap for extremely beautiful cabins. Wonderful weather (since they're elevated). Very nice people.

Thailand has been my fav vacation by a long shot, although I love europe with a passion and will keep going for more....but thailand was just magic, the beaches were amazing, the people were friendly, the service was great, the shopping was dirt cheap and it was very safe, me and my gf just wandered the streets til 3 am

Budget vacation - miami is awesome, and new orleans
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

I'm a big fan of the Caribbean.
St. John - is one of my fav's there's only really 2 hotels on the island the rest are villa's that you rent out. Super private beaches

Turks and Caicos - again great beaches

Miami - Since I do have a condo there and just love the atmosphere/Latin culture

Vegas - Well Vegas is Vegas plenty to do and great pools/parties

Do you guys think it'd be lame if I went on a vacation by myself? Any ideas on what to do if I do travel by myself (i.e. fun things to do)?

My boyfriend can't really afford it right now, and I'm not comfortable paying his way (and he isn't comfortable with the idea either), so I was toying with the idea of taking myself on vacation.

    Lame or could be fun?

I think you should spring for his vacation since you can afford it and he can't right now. You are a couple. The tables could turn next year, who knows. Unless you just want some time away from him.

Not a bad point. However, he's extremely independent (as am I), and I'm extremely frugal. Both he and I really wouldn't be comfortable with that. I ain't no sugamomma. I shook my ass and made that money; it's mine.

my best vacations have been by myself. like i said, i couch surf so i meet ppl on the way. have you ever traveled by yourself before? it really is the best way to do it, without a buddy to use as a crutch you are forced to go out and meet ppl and find a good time.

im going to PM you tomorrow with more info on the stuff. im just too lazy now and im about to go out and have some fun .

aight. it can be very empowering! I love doing it! im all about finding adventures! Getting over the idea of traveling by yourself is the hard part, once you actually take the initiative and do it, it actually comes really naturally. i dont even think twice about it anymore, but i do remember before my gigantic roadtrip last summer i was trying to recruit friends to come with me. im glad none of them pulled through .

Of course, I am a generation older than you and have a different outlook. I've never been into this is mine and that is hers from a money standpoint when in a marriage or serious relationship. To me, it is just a big pool of dough that we both live off of and hopefully have a fun time with. Having said that, I get that times change even though those changes are foreign to me. When you are off gallivanting, please call him. He may seem agreeable but I suspect that might not be the case

As far as vaca, my favorite in recent memory is Vegas. I had a great time and actually won a few hundred. Video poker was my game
