    Default Two Months. 20lbs.

I'm a long time lurker here, but before going any further, i love you girls & your posts, they've been more than helpful.

I'm not even doing this for work anymore, I'm doing this for myself. I've set a goal for this time in June to have off 20lbs. So about two months - 2 lbs per week, that sounds somewhat realistic to me. I have a BSC membership & money to spend at whole foods..but I just need all the guidance I can get. I'm 5'7 and am afraid to even weigh myself. I look about 160 with about a 40" waist(definately measured wrong..), 40" hips. I'm not even sure if i measured that right. I'm inspired now more than ever to get this weight off..Please help.

2 pounds per week is pushing it. You will be losing muscle mass with fat at that rate, which is basically self defeating as you will be destroying your metabolic engine in the process. In fact, forget about the scales in general. You can be 120 lbs and still have a high body fat percentage ('skinny fat'). Invest in a set of body fat calipers and make a better body composition your goal instead of 'weight loss'.

you're right..i'm getting a little over enthusiastic. it's not the number i'm looking for, i phrased that poorly. it's just the body type i associate with that number. thank you for replying, it means a lot!

I gain muscle really fast so if I work out I'll gain more weight in muscle than fat. I try to judge my weight by how I look, not by what I weigh because that isn't always reliable. Like, when I was 107 lbs I was significantly fatter. I'm 117 now, but look way better.

I guess for tips is set an exercise routine that you can do every week. Make sure you take one day off a week to heal and build muscles.

I'm working on cutting out all junk food right now! Baby steps... haha.

Weight loss is actually pretty easy. Weight loss without muscle loss is trickier. Number one thing you need to do (and which 90% of people are too lazy to do) is start a food journal. You have to know what your intake is before you can start tailoring your macronutrient ratios. Look up how to do this, it is the one thing that after you learn how to do it, will completely alter your nutritional universe. It is only a pain in the ass in the beginning, but once you can finetune your caloric intake according to protein, carb and fat ratios, you will be able to infinitely adjust your body's response to food.
After this, the rest is easy. Cardio, and heavy weight lifting comprised of large compound exercises and you'll be on your way. Don't get into the cardio only trap. You need to lift heavy weights to maximise fat loss. Girls worry about getting too big or suddenly looking like a bodybuilder, but that will not happen. Your gains will be slow and you do not have the genetics nor are you taking enough steroids to ever get to bodybuilder status on your own.
And KSweet has it just right, don't go by the scales, your body weight is only one small component in your self analysis system.

Go for 1 pound a week. If you stop your exercise and healthy eating regimen you will gain all the lost weight back just as fast.

Be patient. Lift heavy weights at low reps and do as much cardio as you can stand.

Cardo is how you burn the fat.

I wouldn't even bother with stomach exercises until you lose the weight. You won't be able to see any of your handy work (cruches) until your less than 10% body fat any way. If you want tummy muscles with less effort do simple pole tricks. Nothing fancy. It will tone your core and burn fat.

Eat low fat food and go online and find a calorie calculator. Find out how many calories you need in a day to lose weight.

Also don't worry about bulking up. You have to put in a lot of effort and eat mega calories to get huge.

    Good luck.

I think 1lb a week is a great goal it's totally possible, and slow and steady weight loss is more likely to stay off.
Good luck on your journey and congratulations on making this awesome decision to get healthy yay
