    Default help...getting sick frequently

My immune system has taken a serious hit since I started dancing. I drink a ton of water , carry sanitizer in my money bag, wash my hands constantly, and don't touch anything more than necessary. But I'm sure the poles and stage, and customers..are germ carriers and I seem to pick up everything

Part of the problem is most certainly drinking coffee and red bull to stay away and dance late, and then not getting really good sleep..I've never been a night person so the adjustment has been hard..and I have a two year old.

In three months of working I've had FOUR colds..tonight I called in sick as I have a fever and bad body aches. I'm getting really paranoid about the obvious germ houses these clubs are

    has anyone else experienced this?

I did not have this trouble at the strip club, but while I was going to school and I first started clinicals in the hospitals I was constantly sick. Everyone told me to just ride it out since your immune system picks up, and it did. Now I rarely get sick. I think you just might have to let your immune system adapt, also try and avoid stressing too much as best you can. Stress is the ultimate cold invite. Even when life is stressful or chaotic, which yours sounds like it is, stress is like a rocking chair you can rock all you want but you wont go anywhere!

    Good luck

I feel your pain, Catseyes. Since I returned to stripping in July I have had every respiratory infection known to man. It doesn't help that smoking is allowed in my club and it is horrible.

Sleep is essential, vitamins, exercise, eat plenty of raw vegetables. 500mg of vitamin C daily can help combat the effects of second hand smoke if you work in a smoky club. Drinking lowers immunity, so it is advised to cut down if you do. Hope you can overcome it.

Oh yeah, this has been happening to me all the time since I started dancing. When I first started I was sick about every other week. Then I started taking vitamins and washing my hands more often. Plus, I think my body just got used to it. The clubs are DEFINITELY super germy, no matter how much the cleaning staff does. Rolling around half naked on a stage that twelve other girls have sweat all over... Rubbing your crotch in someone else's... Getting your face in another custy's face... Making out with another dancer who has been doing the same dirty things all night...

No doubt you're exposed to SO much.

thank you..I'm comforted to know this is a normal thing..yeah when I did nursing clinicals the same thing happened, I picked up everything.

I only work four nights a week but it seems I'm always just catching up on rest..the manager won't allow us to cut back to less hours. And I don't want to go to another club, so far this place has been really good money.

thanks guys...major ick factor at the clubs
I don't take money with my mouth but yeah the passing of fluids is everywhere. What scares me is what we don't see.

vitamin d3 will help quite a bit. in the short term 20,000-40,000 units for 2 days and in the longer term 2,000 units daily in liquid or liquid capsule form. also b-complex pills really work wonders in maintaining immunity in that environment until your body catches up.

Get yourself some strong Probiotics, 3lac is the best on the market. If your immune system isn't fighting off these germs successfully, you need to build it back up again. Start to take Vitamin C supplements, too. Eat lots of vegetables and garlic. Don't eat sugar or processed carbs.

Thumbs up Re: help...getting sick frequently

I agree with what others have said and would add- get more rest and cut the caffiene!

When you get sick take as much time off as it takes to get totally well- you might take a hit on money that week but it will be worth it in the long run, you will miss less shifts and make more money while you are there.

If you cut out the coffee and red bull you will be really tired for a week or two but you will ultimately have more energy and a stronger immune system, you will probably sleep a lot better too!

Take a week off and REST, relax, hydrate, and take vitamins/probiotics, I guarantee you will feel so much better.

wow i haven't gotten sick in a really long time (years) and I've been dancing for 9 months or so and haven't gotten sick once. I hear that constantly washing hands and sanitizer is actually counterproductive because after a while it will lose its effect and the bacteria will develop tolerance to the antibacterial ingredient in the sanitizer if you keep using it. I don't use sanitizer on my hands at all, but I do wash my hands a few times a shift.
I do drink too much, and drink at least one cup of coffee per day, coffee is actually good for you because it has antioxidants in it, but its bad when you are drinking so much of it that you are getting the caffeine effects of tremors, restlessness, etc.
I have been guilty of taking a dollar bill in my mouth once, and I felt icky. haha. Won't do it again.
    Oh ya and I exercise

I take vitamins and I sleep a lot though (8 to 12 hours a day). I also eat very well and try to live well. Rarely ever eat fast food but lots of sweets. Do you eat healthy?
    How old are you?

All of those things play a factor in how strong your immune system is.

I have the same problem. I am a health freak (to the point of being orthorexic) i take vitamin D, vitamin C, probiotics, eat a gluten free diet high in raw foods, and I stilll got sick with BRONCHITIS for ELEVEN days after my return to dancing after a 6 month break. Took me a month to pick it up, but when i finally got sick ( i knew it was coming, the club i'm at is really dirty and girls seem to be constantly fighting something off) it hit me hard.

I don't think there's anything you can do but wait it out until your immune system gets stronger.

non-liquid vitamin d is basically worthless. it's not bio-available. gelcaps with oil or liquid dosing is pretty much the only way to go outside of getting vitamin d via food or sun.

I used to get sick when I traveled all the time(I spent every sunday on a plane or bus) working different clubs. I broke the cycle when I started taking one cold fx a day, vitamin c, vitamin b12, vitamin D and a good multi vitamin. When I felt something coming on I would take oil of oregano or echinasea or sometimes both depending what I felt coming on. It kept me healthy and alert. I even still allowed myself my caffeine and cigarette fix

don't use sanitizer, sure they kill the germs but they depress your immune system. Eat only whole foods and get rid of everything processed. A can of red bull will make me bed-ridden for a full day : (
I haven't started dancing yet so I guess I'm not in a position to tell you what to do.. But I am studying nutrition and plan on becoming a naturopath so I spend a lot of time reading about health Hope you get well, salud.

    Love, Mia

Luckyone, you are right about garlic! Definitely has anti-microbial/anti-bacterial/anti-fungal properties.. If you don't want to have garlic breath you can try the capsules.. Coconut has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal properties as well. I love coconut oil and fresh coconut water ; ) It makes me skin so soft too (weather I eat it or apply it topically).

Well..I know my immune system is a bit crappy but after quitting that club I found out a bunch of other girls just got let go cuz they kept getting sick too (the manager is a dick) ..they don't clean the place worth a shit ..one of the girls had multiple spider or something? bites.

ha money aint everything. I'm back at my old club where at least I don't stick to the carpet.
