    Default Body is So Sore

    Hello,
Tonight will be my third night and my body is very very very very sore. Im in school right now so we dont actually have baths just showers. How can I get the same effect as soaking in the tub in the shower? Is there something I can use to ease the soreness?

Heating pads/heat wraps anything like those. If you can find them, there are these little bags that are filled with some sort of pellets. You put them in the microwave for a couple minutes with a cup of water and they work as reusable heating bags. Look around in a cvs or something of the sort and see if you cant find those or a muscle reliever that doesn't have that minty/medicine-y smell

I second stretching! Also ICY/HOT helps, as does massaging your muscles. The massage might hurt, and feel more sore in the short run, but if you can stand it, it always lessens my recovery timee.

Does your school have a student gym? You should see if they offer yoga classes, mine does and it helps a lot.

Bikram yoga (or hot yoga) if they offer it in your town. I just did a class today and feel SOOOO much better.

i find that any form of yoga helps. i'm usually less tight the next day and the best part of yoga i've found is that it helps with stamina and flexibility, it helped whip me back into shape faster and allowed me to get my flexibility back when i returned to dancing. yoga is just a win-win form of exercise.

Get some Aleve. You might be able to get Epsom Salts and just put them you gently in the shower too.

Well even after years of dancing you will still get sore however you learn to brush it off.

Stretching helps. Eating foods high in protein helps too. Bananas help because of the potassium and drinking water flushes the lactic acid build up.

Be extra careful with the ICY HOT and BEN-Gay type products.

If you read the warnings on the box it says "Do not put over a large area of skin" and "Do not use for more than 7 days".

There are ingredients that absorb through your skin and settle in your internal organs (liver, kidneys) and can cause them to FAIL.

Sorry to scare you. Use them sparingly.

I'll second and third what the other dancers said, when I first started I was so sore my second day I had to have help lowering myself down to the toilet. After a while it will be mild soreness

yes! water and potassium are really important to avoid lactic acid build up. i went for a massage about a month ago and my masseuse told me i had a lot of lactic acid build-up, so it is really important to drink lots of water and eat bananas. i'm not really sure the bad effects of lactic acid build-up but i just know it's not good.

This might sound stupid, but if you have any dance tights or jazz pants, wear them on your day off when you're resting at home. They provide tension and support evenly on all sides of your ass/legs.

Arnica gel! It takes soreness away so quickly, reduces swelling AND bruising, and doesn't smell. I love it
