Default Anyone else ever broke their stupid foot?

Yeah. So last night a helium tank fell on my left foot, specifically over my big toe. I iced it overnight of course, but today it is so swollen it wont fit in my stupid shoe. It hurts pretty bad, I can walk on it, but obviously I am going to take the night off.

I guess what I am asking is, if you have ever busted your foot or big toe, how long did it take for the swelling to go down? It's so swollen right now it looks and feels stuffed tight like a sausage. I can not afford to take more than tonight off but I am sort of not willing to force it today.

    Fucking helium tanks.

I haven't, but one of my good friend's just broke hers.

Keep it elevated so the swelling goes down faster. Use a phone book or two with a pillow on top to elevate it.

Hope it gets better for you soon!
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

i sprained my ankle a few weeks ago (ok i know it's not the same but it was fucking painful) and took about a week before i could walk normally. one of my friends broke her big toe and taped it and it healed up pretty quickly (i'd say around a week before she was mobile again). also my cousin broke his foot twice but it was at least a month before he could walk on it...was on crutches for awhile and then in a boot. is it just your toe or your foot cause i've sprained my ankle a few times and it swelled up like a sausage too...took about 4 days before i could walk and about a week before i could start running (i used to run competitively and didn't have any problems)

and of course ice it and keep it elevated like kylea said...but i'm sure you know this already
feel better! maybe you could go to the doctor to get some painkillers? i just went because i have a lipoma near my spine and it's been killing me and the painkillers are helping.

eta: i just re-read that and i think the swelling would go down within a couple of days...i'm gonna talk to my friend in a few hours and ask about how long it took her big toe to heal and get back to you.

Take Ibuprofin (Motrin or Advil) to help the swelling and definitely ice and elevate.

A car ran over my foot and it took about 4 days for me to be able to walk, a week and a half for me to be able to dance (poorly), and a month before I could do anything where I held myself on the pole by the top of my foot.

Good luck with that. Stupid helium tank :-( :-(

I think I'm going to risk it and try and stuff my foot into my shoe even though it looks pretty gruesome. I have some expenses coming up ( happy ones! ) so I need to get on the ball with work.

You know what I am most butt hurt about is I wasn't even drunk. Just a fucking klutz.

damn, you are one tough cookie...i'm such a baby when it comes to pain. when i sprained my ankle i had to go buy a laptop because my other one died and i had to have one for school...i couldn't get my foot into any shoes so i had to wear slippers. totally off topic but i went in to buy my laptop with slippers on and paid cash, they called the manager over and he recounted the money...apparently i must have looked like a crazy person. oh well, i go out in public looking like hell all the time anyway. the people at cvs probably think i'm a crazy person cause i always look awful when i'm going in to pick up my crazy person meds and to buy cigs at the oddest hours.

yeah, alcohol always seems to numb the pain...i was drinking for awhile (i'm not supposed to drink, oopsies ha! but yeah) it definitely helped alleviate the lipoma pain near my spine...but i finally decided to get it checked out cause i couldn't figure out what it was and the pain was getting worse. sorry i'll stop thread jacking to talk about my lipoma, but i'm just mad cause i'm bed-ridden cause the pain is radiating to the sides of my body and it hurts to move around.

I broke my foot once. I'm not sure how though. All I remember was waking up the morning after some drunken escapades and seeing my foot all swollen. The pain wasn't too bad. I went 9 days before my boyfriend convinced me to go see a doctor, I kept insisting there was nothing wrong. X-Rays said it was broken. I walked on it the whole time it was healing, even though the doc said not too (I can't stand crutches and obviously lack common sense). It healed fine, my foot looks normal 2 years later, I didn't do any long-term damage. It took about 6 weeks until it felt 'back to normal' though.

Good luck dancing. Ibuprofen and the occasional Vicoden helped me through the pain, as well as the odd glass of red wine. I hope it heals soon!

I fractured my fifth metatarsal working too much and walking in flats around san francisco. It sucked so bad and the worst part is that you cant do anything but wait for it to heal. Ice and elevation and an ace bandage helped, but not walking a lot sucked! I pray that it never happens again!

I also broke my fifth metetarsal in the end of December. It was really BAD pain (and I can usually tolerate pain) I walked on it for a month thinking it was sprained. I went back to work for Wing Bowl and taped it up. I still tape it every time I work. When the rains come, it starts to ache. I take lots of vitamin D now (to produce calcium) but it is now reduced to a chronic and dull pain.

if you don't really need the money, it would be a billion times smarter to take time off. my foot took about a full year to heal because i kept assuming it was better just because the swelling had gone down. so i'd work a couple shifts, start working out again, then BAM foot so swollen i can't stuff it in my shoe.

at this point, i think there may be some permanent damage.

if you've gotta work, at least take plenty of breaks to take your shoe off and elevate your foot. and totally baby it outside the club. no running. no dancing around. walk softly and as little as possible.

Yup, I have broken the 2nd meta before at work.

That's why you shouldn't drink shots of Cuervo Anejo and pole, lol! I can down from an invert and slammed my right heel down on my left foot. Not a good time at ALL, lol!

It took a few weeks to heal, I still worked anyway, but I was lucky enough to have a cool boss that let me dance in tennis shoes (Air Force One's anyone?!) as long as the outfits matched a fun athletic theme.

Good thing to bring to work with you are your x-rays to show the break.

RICE works not only for strains and sprains, but breaks too. Lessens the pain and reduces swelling.

I do need the money. My club just got a new GM and since he came on, we've been pretty quiet. Also the walking thing- it sucks because I'm getting married Thursday, and thus have to hoof it around malls ring shopping and running fifty thousand errands.

I can't even tell you how many times I told nola my foot hurt yesterday. However, the bruising has all come out now, the swelling has gone down. I can still feel the fracture but aesthetically it's better. I wish I could slow down but I wouldn't change the current state of events for the world!
