    Default Ouch, canker sore!!!

I have the worst canker sore under my tongue. And my gland is all swollen... I can't even eat! I've been using ambesol and salt water, but no luck.

i used to get canker sores all the time...i really have no solution, i always just had to wait for them to go away. if your glands are swollen, maybe you have an infection and need antibiotics?

I've used lysine, my dad turned me on to it - just the tabs, you can pick them up in the vitamin section at the drugstore. They'll help shorten the duration, and if you start taking it right when you feel one forming sometimes it goes away before it can even turn into a sore!

This works for cold sores/fever blisters as well.

What kind of salt did you use for your rinse? I like the himalayan jurassic era pink salt. It has more than 80 trace minerals, and is actually good for you.

Nice...I'll denitely try that out. Thanks.
As for the rinse, I've just been using sea salt. But I actually found this mouthwash called Peroxyl that is supposedly good for mouth sores...It makes it feel a little better right after I use it but it's not speeding the healing process. I'll try that pink salt...I've never even heard of it!

You can get it at whole foods. I really like it. I put it on my food, and I'm starting a regimen with it on Tuesday.

Awesome. I love Whole Foods! There's one right by where I live. So just ask for the tablets and put it on the sore or how exactly should I do this?

Make strong salt water, and rinse with it. If its really bad, I put the salt directly on it. Do salt water rinsed at least 6 times a day; just once won't do Shit. Get some lysine pills too. The salt comes in a regular salt sh!kerry of you get it from WF. It'll probably be In the gourmet aisle. I get mine from a local woman here that sells all different kinds of salt.

I really dont recommend salt. I used it plently of times and it just makes it worse. If you still believe in salt at best mix it with warm water and rinse it - a better way is to use baking soda with warm water..but yet again these ways do not really make the cranker sore better or heal any faster, just removes the bacteria from the wound which is always good.

What I recommend is buying a pain relief jel for cranker sores called "" I have used it for 2 years now, it's best for night or day. If you dont play with it with your tongue depening on where the sore is - it will last about 8 hours! You are able to eat, drink, have food on the wound and not feel it. It comes in a brown jel, put it in on the cranker sore, keep your mouth open for a minute for the jel to dry and so it wont stick to your teeth. After it turns into a pale white color and it STICKS! It will burn for a good 30 seconds, but for the 8 hours its worth it! Dont buy the other brands, cause I decided to be cheap one day and bought another one on sale - what a waste, it came off within 10 mintues!

Another product I recommend is "" These are a bit pricy, best for the night, they will last the whole night, and damn they stick. Feels like you have a whole gummy bear on one side your mouth. Do not use them at day (whenever your awake) since they get in the way, you wont be really to talk - well you could but people will think you have food in yiur mouth and generally isn't comfy when you feel it since itds so big. Place the patch hold it in place of the sore and let it sink in. These could probably last 2 days, when you wake up, it will be stuck to your teeth and everything of your mouth, so you will have to peel it off, floss and brush after and the taste wont be great. I have noticed with using these they improved my healing time by 1 - 2 days. And when I catch my cranker sores at the smaller wound stage, and use them, they dont get bigger which is a pain in the ass.

Try changing your toothpaste, most contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which is a cause to cranker sores to some. For cheap way to remove some of the pain away is, putting an advil or a similar pill on the wound and holding it there until its mussy and let go so it can stick, try not to eat or drink, for the first 30 mins, after that if you drink/eat some of the pill will be removed but you wont feel the pain for an hour or two. It works wonders for me whenever I do not have my jel. Also if you use a mouthwash get one with tetracycline, this will help the healing process and prevent the bacteria and pain, I have not tried this since I do not use mouthwash but my dentist has told me this. Lastly, BUY l-lysine pills, they are cheap and take one or two daily, I have read these pills work as a block in the cells where cranker sores could form, check up on them. I take these but probably 2-3 a week, but I do have less cranker sores now.

I have a problem with this and it is due to stress and either your tongue, inside of your cheek or inside lip rubbing on your teeth!

    Two products I've used:

Canker melts. They are these weird little disks that you put on the sore. They last a little over two hours but it protects and heals at the same time.

Echinacea goldenseal tincture. Go to a natural food store, Whole Foods will have it for under $10.

You gargle and rinse with it three times a day until the sore is almost or completely gone. The pain will start to subside after the first day. Or it will be tolerable at least.

It is not the best tasting stuff but it is really the only thing that works for me.

So I hope it helps you out.

When I was younger and literally lived off of candy I would get them pretty often, sometimes a couple at once. Haven't had one in years thankfully!
